This game sounds like a very light version of Star Fleet Battles, or a lighter version of Federation Commander (both by Amarillo Design Bureau)

Kevin, who I played it with, said it reminded him very much of Star Fleet Battles with the impulse system. I haven't played it so I have no basis for comparison.

Yes, I have Star fleet battles still from my youth. At the end SFB had over sixteen races. I might have to pick up this game.

Thank you so much for this review. I have been wanting to try a game like Star Empires, but it seemed too long and detailed, and the cost has kept me from trying Armada. This seems to fit the bill. You're great.

How well do you think those dry erase pieces are going to hold up? I imagine them wearing out or getting "uneraseable" after a while.

Enjoyed the review, I had a chance to play my copy a few weeks back, I was disappointed in the dry eraser aspect, unless you're using Q-Tips to clean the chits, I found that the boxes on the chits do not provide enough space between each other. I found myself and the other player having to mark boxes that were accidentally erased. I like the optional tracking sheets and I'll probably laminate them, more of a gimmick the dry erase aspect

Anthony Baldassar I rather enjoyed the dry erase aspect. It just felt different than standard war games. But, too each their own.

I've played it with two and four. I preferred two, but it's not bad as a team game.

This system comes from Star Fleet Battles without some of the better weapon systems or a better impulse system (30 Impulses not just 6). Talon is not its own Game as this review states but a dubbed down version of Star Fleet Battles. Having said that I wonder if they will or do use Plasma seeking weapons or the most intriguing Cloaking Device used by the Romulans and Klingons...Look up Task Force Games..awesome..!!!

I haven't played SFB, but I've heard people comment that it has similar mechs. As to it being "not its own game" I think that's a little off the mark.

The Discriminating Gamer No disrespect to you, Cody, The review was great, and your enthusiasm for the game is clear - so much that it made me pause for thought before coming to my conclusion. I'm afraid II'm just a miniatures guy, and when it comes to space battles, I prefer twitch fighters like X-Wing even over Capital Ship movement like Armada.
