@peoplez12911 ай бұрын
Glossy is only for narcissists that like to stare at themselves in the mirror and live in the basement. Using a glossy at any time but night and the screen image is ruined by reflections, so on top of the black levels being less, you also get at least a reflection in every dark element on the screen. The glossy trend was started by TV owners, which works because a TV will be across the room, so reflections don't matter as much.

Reason being the W-OLED white subpixel washing out effect of other colors at lower and higher APLs. White boosting brightness by subsequently washing out the actual colors is in my opinion the main reason that makes WOLED inferior to QD-OLED. @cameronbosch121311 ай бұрын
3:32 Let's be real though, if you're spending over $1000 on a monitor, then they should have better coatings than the matte options *and* the QD-OLEDs that don't have a polarizer leading to ambient light flooding the display in brighter environments, which I'm pretty sure will be a turn off for most rooms and users. Why can't we have a proper glossy OLED screen with a polarizer and Gorilla Glass!?
@DonDOOM411 ай бұрын
Next years PHOLED RGB displays will enable this. It's the answer/fix for W-OLED's white subpixel and QD-OLED's quantum dots and inherent lack of a polarizer. We'll finally have true RGB phosphorescent OLED materials (blue that was missing specifically) that will have 2x the longevity / potential for higher brightness compared to current technology. All that remains then is for companies to not fuck up by insisting on putting matte coatings on their panels.

Basically what you’re saying is that there will never be a perfect monitor. Matte coatings are a solution to a customer problem with ambient light and direct reflections, it solves what you’re complaining about with the light spreading on QD OLED and mirror like reflections on WOLED, but you also don’t want it because it will ruin clarity. So what’s the choice? What should people buy? They’re both great technologies and way better than anything in the monitor market in the past… ever. Have to say QD OLED takes an easy win everywhere though. It’s already been commented on but it’s such a superior technology for almost every desktop applications including editing with a much wider color gamut available.
@definingslawek473110 ай бұрын
QD OLED has worse black levels than LCD and the only thing they have to show for it is a marginally higher saturation in the most saturated pixels. I wouldn't call that 'such a superior technology' they're side grades.
@omc95110 ай бұрын
The colour gamut coverage is not marginal. You’re insane comparing LCD to any OLED. The hyper competition between these companies is leading to consumers having more choice and better products. If you want to believe what you said then you can purchase whatever you like but it is outright wrong. Not sure what it is with people like yourself believing stuff like that and treating electronics OEMs like political parties and sports teams. Good luck on your next display…
@definingslawek473110 ай бұрын
@@omc951It's a simple scientific measurement. QD OLED has worse black levels than LCD when there is enough ambient light in the room (little) TFT did a video on it, check it out. Even without measurement it is obviously true. My friend got a dell xps a few years back with an OLED display and I was wondering why is the black so grey and purplelish compared to our oled phones and the reason is the dell xps he has is qd oled. The fact you aren't aware of this but speak with such ego is amusing. You're the one treating companies like sports teams lol. I said both options are great and have their trade offs, qd oled has higher colour volume but LCD blacks. LG has true OLED blacks and better burn in performance. Both have super wide colour gamuts and 10 bit native panels but qd oled is a bit wider.
@definingslawek473110 ай бұрын
@@omc951Also the colour gamut difference in my opinion is rather marginal. 141.9% relative coverage of sRGB for qdoled vs 127.4% for woled. So woleds colour gamut is 89.7% (90%) of the qdoled. QD oled has worse blacks than LCD. They're side grades.

@@definingslawek4731 QD OLED was not produced until 2021 and nothing smaller than 34” was produced until this year. No laptop sized QD OLED exists. You were looking at a different OLED material whether WOLED or AMOLED. That is black depth that was measured not contrast. Black depth is also harder to perceive the more ambient light is present and it’s a balance vs reflections. Contrast and black depth on an OLED without indirect and small light sources are miles better than any LCD. Great FALD monitors will outperform OLED due to perceptual contrast on these tests due to higher light output but will never have the highlight detail and light control of any OLED. Again, feel free to buy whatever you want but there’s products for different use cases. Clearly you’re passionate about high ambient light and direct light source use case so go ahead and buy whatever you want but don’t misrepresent things you don’t fully understand. WOLED glossy reflections are incredibly mirror like. I have a QD OLED TV and monitor and both are outstanding with ambient light and it’s only direct light that will make any purple tinge black level raising. It’s almost impossible to notice in content. You just started saying something negative and outlandish about QD OLED panels. Never said anything great about anything.

Yes it is a big deal if you want full uncompressed color volume. DSC is NOT literally lossless. The requirement for DSC to be called "visually lossless" was met if only 70% of people in the study could tell the difference between DSC vs native. Samsung monitors have had DSC for a few years now and many users have had problems like abnormal scanlines and trouble switching tabs. Sometimes DSC displays have terrible artifacts where parts of the image have frames that get stuck on screen. If you want absolutely no problems with your monitor wait for the displays that have the required bandwidth of DP 2.1.

QD-OLED manages 36% higher average experienced brightness / color luminance at low APL and highlights in HDR. I don't understand why people don't just buy an oled tv to play games and just a "normal" monitor to work on ? Just hook your pc to the LG oled tv and relax on the couch. You mean to tell me you're ready to spend 1200 $ on a monitor and a 1000$ gpu and not spend some dollars for a separate built pc just for work ?

in terms of performance, wold gonna beat qd oled with the 480hz dual mode version. and the coating isn't really that bad lets be honest we all saw the aqdm and it was first place for monitor choice last year with the same coating

@@veilmontTV You do know it's a dual mode, so you can choose to switch back to 4K 240Hz whenever you like. Also, a 480Hz 2K varient was revealed at CES24 too and gonna be dropped later this year as well. Only QD-OLED are left behind with speeds this year.

the change of the display coating on oleds isnt going to stop the colours looking washed at high nit

I don't mind the coating in games. It's hardly noticeable in games imo. Desktop use tho it's essentially unusable. It's bruuuutal. I'm not sure why they went with this sand grain coating. It makes zero sense. Absolutely criminal they out it on their 2nd releases as well. The black levels are far better tho. Even a small amount of ambient light raises blacks on qd oled.

He's saying the matte coating on W-OLEDs looks bad. I was also confused and thought he was ranting about QD-OLEDs handling of direct light. In all fairness, both technologies need to be in a light controlled room for perfect blacks (no lights at all for actual perfect blacks), QD-OLED's lack of a polarizer just makes it more so.
@heatnup11 ай бұрын
@@DonDOOM4 Hardly. WOLED is obviously better when used in the dark than when it isn't but at least it can display near perfect blacks in high ambient light. In a normally lit room QD-OLED is on par or just slightly better than VA in terms of contrast. That isn't good when OLED's can theoretically display infinite contrast.
@heatnup11 ай бұрын
@@DonDOOM4 The contrast difference between QD-OLED and W-OLED is MASSIVE not just a little bit worse.
@DonDOOM411 ай бұрын
@@heatnupNever did I say 'it's just a little bit worse'. QD-OLED definitely needs a light controlled environment. Not having direct light hitting the panel from the front is a must.
