With pre mixed mud you want to add some water to it. It goes on way smoother and you wont get all the air bubbles in the coat. Also WEN sells a powered DA sander that uses a vacuum to suck it to the wall..and it's only $80. You get good at drywall after you have finished the last room in the house. Lol

Been plastering and level 5 joint compounding for 25 years. Add about 16 ounces of distilled water(so it wont mold), to the premixed mud. You will always have lift marks with joint compound. It will take multple coats and patching to get it nice. I use 150 grit for the first sand and then 220 for finish sanding.

@@TheDIYCabinGuydont try to make it perfect on the first coat, youll never get it is what I meant to say. You'll end up ruining it if you try to get it on the first coat. Dont work the joint compound to much or it will lose its stickiness. On final coats use a water spray bottle to thin out the mud more in the areas you are patching if you are patching that is. It takes a lot of practice to know how to work with joint compund effectively. Like when to leave it alone before it deglues from the wall or it starts to drag, how much spray bottle water to use and when, I'm currently remodeling my bathroom rn, I watched this video after doing some final sanding and patching on my joint compounded walls.

You can make a T out of 2x4’s Get a corner up there then use the T to push up the other end and wedge it against the floor to hold it- Also- run your wall sheets horizontally not vertically( same with the ceiling-across the ceiling framing ) I was a painter for 25+ years and have done my share of drywall, mud tape and texture 😉 Not bad for a noober 😎👌 You WILL want to do another coat cuz you’ll see the joints when you paint. Use pva primer to prime.👍 Then sand with a 360 sander to knock off any crap or boogers before you paint 👌

Thanks! I didn’t even think twice about the sheet rock orientation, it just made more sense to do it the way I did which offered less joints to cover which is all I was after lol What’s the reasoning between running sheet rock one way vs the other ?
@heribertocandelaria21404 ай бұрын
Exactly. Good work for someone who never has done this before. Wanted to add, in the future try and use a hole sheet around entryways, headers and door framing. Using small pcs of drywall and small tape joints will eventually start cracking. Good job man

While I am NOT a drywall expert, I will say that I don't sand, I knock down the roughest spots with a sharp putty knife and use a rung out damp sponge to rub it lightly making it smooth.

Add water to the mud to thin it down for taping. You'll be able to work faster and save your shoulders. The mud is too thick straight out of the bucket. I use very thin mud for taping, it's messy FYI. A little thicker for the following coats. If you drop mud on the floor or carpet, let it dry. It's far easier to clean once it's dry. Especially on carpet! I never sand between coats. Knock down the tool marks with a knife, and add another coat.

I felt so bad watching the shower liner video and knowing you didn’t know about notching the boards in the corners to make room for the folds. I saw that in a video a while ago. I love drywall. I am lucky enough to have a job that I truly enjoy. You're right, though. Sanding sucks. Instead of a head lamp, I use an extremely bright work light. Keeping it close to the wall will show imperfections while you stand back and look for shadows.

@@TheDIYCabinGuy I plastered for years and then moved to an area where you cant even buy veneer plaster, so I switched to joint compound. Was a 6 month learning curve for me. The thing is it may have been harder for me because I already knew how to do something similar but with a different product (plaster) and muscle memory had me trying to work the joint compound in the same manor when they act completely different from one another. I had to basically unlearn how to plaster and how to joint compound instead. So maybe your learning curve will be faster than mine. Definitely use a work light and shine it at the opposite wall youre trying to finish patch, the shadows will show the imperfections. If you shine the light directly at the wall youre workin on its very hard to discern whats good and whats not if its not blatently apparent already without light, because its all bright white and like sun spots or sun washes your eyes (like looking at the sun quick or a bright light and then looking away quickly, you can see anything).

You could have just added some water to your all purpose joint compound and would have gotten the same results and just find it easier to use the mesh joint tape rather than the paper tape
