You should be using Sanitary-T's as they make it easier to access with a plumber's snake.

Just a suggestion: if you are mixing your own concrete, wet the wheelbarrow before dumping in the concrete. It is not a big deal but does make cleanup easier.

If I were to build another cabin it would be 3 feet off of the ground so I could install an insulated skirt around the base. When erecting the walls I would use a double bottom plate or 2 , 2x4's or 6's sitting on the floor decking. Then I would add 1 inch, of R5, 4x8 rigid foam board topped off with 1/2 inch plywood (then add finished floor). This would create a wonderful insulated floor without any concern of mice destruction, not to mention the great thermal break. Just think, if you sandwich or add up all of the 2x floor joists together that make up a 24x24 cabin floor system you would roughly 30" x 24' of uninsulated space not to mention the massive thermal bridging of cold from the outside, in. Now this system would let enough heat through the floor to keep any underneath water/drain pipes from freezing while keeping your feet nice and warm. Never forget that most of us heat our cabins with a wood stove and we often have to open a window.

I ended up using foam board to make these baffles, nothing on the market is very good unless you pay for smartbaffles. every product was either flimsy or left an area of the roof deck unventilated, some of the snap in half ones for 16 on center spacing only covered 12" of the 14 1/2" space

I don't understand why you have baffles running all the way to the peak. Any water vapor that gets through the insulation has nowhere to go except to condense on the baffles.

Hello. I like your attention to detail. Did you consider adding full sheets of foam insulation ON TOP of your subfloor followed by another layer of plywood, instead of installing batt insulation between the floor joists? This would eliminate thermal bridging through the floor joists and would be far easier I think.
@TheDIYCabinGuy
@TheDIYCabinGuy 17 күн бұрын
Interesting! My plan is to add some rigid foam boards to the underside of the floor joists

Hopefully your windows will be ok, seeing as normally you'd want to leave a gap between the trim and the window for expansion, seeing as expansion from the trim can put pressure on your windows.

Most inspectors are there to help you, and most of them are kind and reasonable, especially if they see that you're willing to listen and to take advice without resisting. Many inspectors will even pass you even if you did something wrong as long as you tell them you'll get it fixed, but that's probly more likely if you're a professional and the fixes are easy. All in all you didn't have any hard or expensive fixes to make so as a DIYer you did pretty well all things considered!

Wow, excellent video and work! I You are channeling the true pioneer spirit that not only built this country, but the whole world. I'm a little hesitant to make suggestions as, at this writing, you've already completed the entire project and have probably figure it all out yourself, but for those that watch the videos later, and might want to do it their selves, here's a couple of things at this point. 1. get or build a couple of saw horses and a piece of plywood to create yourself a workbench of some sort. Easier on the back than using your dolly. Additionally, you could quickly bolt a small bench top vise to the piece of plywood to help hold stuff. 2. Couldn't really tell from the video but cutting the rebar with a grinder is a great idea. I would choose a thin kerf resin-fiber cutting wheel to make the job go as fast as possible. It faster than using a thicker (thickness, not diameter) cutting wheel. 3. for the small squares of rebar that you were using small pieces and tying together to make a square, I'd rig up a jig that would allow you to bend the rebar and make the small squares out of a single piece of rebar bent into a square. Much better than tiny, free-floating pieces inside the concrete. 4. One of the other comments about round holes so you can rent/use an auger is a great time saving idea.

The vast majority of beam sagging occurs on older houses that used undersized dimensional lumber. I don't there are many roofs being built like that these days. LVLs are always used and you are not the only one who used the Forte program.
