I always love these videos. '"Easy diy install". Not the easiest job if you have a house full of archaic 80's half seized lockshield valves on all your rads like me. Dead easy if you're lucky enough to have shiny modern trv's on a recently installed system.

We are running 17 radiators with this system, worked out it pays for itself in 12 to 18 months, now we can completely heat individual rooms (you don’t need the room themostats). Saves money as you can heat the room you are using and set times and temps for each room. Gives you total heating control.

Brilliant, thanks for sharing 👍

I thought messing with TRVs is how you end up with a load of air in the system / unbalanced radiators
@MarkTimberlakeАй бұрын
@@Tracdooor You are not touching the pipes in the heating (you don't need to drain the system etc), just the controls for the heating on each radiator, so you are just taking the existing old fashioned trv and replacing it with a new Smart trv.

A really cheap option for smart control is also to pop a Sonoff minil2 on the live/switched live to the thermostat in the wiring centre. Let's you get rid of the wall thermostat entirely. Can combine with a temperature sensor in Home Assistant... You can then control heating from any mobile/tablet/wall panel, home or away... And use in automations... Ie auto turn off heating when everyone leaves the house etc.

i have this system, and it has had its issues but controlling it from my phone makes it easy. one suggestion is to add geofencing via ifttt. its free and there are settings already, you can simple click and add. it means when you leave your house, the system goes into away mode, so you dont have to do it manually. once you arrive home it goes out of away mode and the heating will continue to be set to room temps and heat schedule.

Thanks for the great video. I've been looking for a smart heating system for some time and settled on the Wiser system to add to my combi boiler however I have been a little unsure about the installation but your video clears this up plus the 40% off code is hard to resist. I don't have a standard wiring unit as you had in your video but the feed from the boiler just goes to the standard RST1 stat unit that you must have seen loads of. It has a permanent 240V feed with a call for heat connection too. Looking at the wiring diagram it looks like the one channel hub unit will just replace the stat as long as pin 3 has a link to feed 240V. Other than that, it looks pretty straightforward. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Cameron. Two queries; 1. What happens if the internet goes down. 2. If the battery fails on one or more TVRs?
@TonyWhitleyАй бұрын
1. Then you can't control it away from your house. The system itself works through its own radio network in the house. 2. The batteries last about a year and you get notifications when they are going flat.
@TheDIYGuy1Ай бұрын
@@TonyWhitleygreat replies. Very helpful for everyone 👍
@tm2204Ай бұрын
1. The Wser system works over it's own Zigbee wireless network which means the system will work even when your internet is down. 2. Depending on how often the TRV actuates will determine battery life. Typically well over 1 year. You can see the battery status (as well as signal strength) of any TRV from the 'Devices' option in the app and the app will also send a notification to your phone if the batteries run out or if the TRV loses connection to the hub (out of range). The range issue can be solved by using a 'smart plug' which also acts as a Zigbee range extender for the system.

Just one question DIYGuy, I set up the hive system but haven't invested in wireless TRVs yet because I still wouldn't be able to heat the upstairs alone when I needed to because of the rule about one rad(currently our lounge rad), can't have a TRV on it. I would always be heating the lounge unnecessarily if I wanted to warm the upstairs. What's the solution?
@UKBlue40727 күн бұрын
change which Rad doesn't have a TRV downstairs? maybe hall or WC? Somewhere you don't mind a bit of extra heat.
@pbarnfieldАй бұрын
I have this system and whilst it is good it does have some flaws. Randomly disconnects the hub - common issue it seems. 2 of my TRV are too far away and often disconnect, but you can buy a smart repeater plug which costs a lot for what it is!! Setting the schedules is a bit backwards, but once you've sussed it then it's fine. Dead easy to set up, even for tech expert like me! My downside is that most of my TRV's are seized and despite constantly freeing them, they mess up soon enough!! Anyone got tips for having them behave this winter? Will replace all radiators and valves next year I reckon in the summer!
@UKBlue40727 күн бұрын
Zigbee repeaters don't have to be expensive, Ikea do one for < £10.

@@UKBlue407 Zigbee yes. But Wiser uses it's own system I believe as I already have a zigbee repeater anyway for my Home Assistant setup.

I wish technology that connects to the internet would stop being referred to as 'smart' as there is nothing smart about that. I assume that the connection to the boiler is existing on/off connections which just turns the boiler on to full rate when a heating demand is called? A 'smart' thermostat would use the OpenTherm connections in the boiler to actually communicate the needs and modulate the boiler to make it more efficient and actually help to save you money and, more importantly, more comfortable in your own home...
@robert.wigleyАй бұрын
It supports OpenTherm and does weather compensation!
@AshSmith95Ай бұрын
@@robert.wigley I'm sure it does, but it is not highlighted in the video, as you would have had to wire it into the boiler differently. My point is, better education is required on this topic. Connecting it to the internet can offer some features that will benefit the homeowner and potentially save them money, but a load compensating boiler will work much more efficiently more of the time and keep you much more comfortable 🤷

Installed one of these as a replacement to a MiGeni system from same company due to cloud update. However it would not connect unless I was a metre away from the hub. Despite numerous hours with the helpdask I had to return it and opt for a Hive system which connected and worked straight out of the box. So not as clear cut as first sold.
@UKBlue40727 күн бұрын
Zigbee in Uk is 2.4 Ghz, maybe you had interferene with your home Wi-Fi 2.4Ghz band (or a neighbours)? Changing the channel of your home Wi-Fi may have sorted it.
@zetec160127 күн бұрын
@@UKBlue407 Thanks for your thoughts however, all avenues were covered including setting up a separate guest network running on 2.4Ghz and tried direct allocated channels. And still would not stay connected. I had not one single problem with their previous product MiGeni in seven years. I still maintain this product is not what it is portrayed. Whilst Hive is not my first choice it works strait out of the box as does Tado and Salis.
