So many commenters didn’t truly understand what the Doctors said. It’s not about being unhygienic. Plus there are other factors. Certain foods like popcorn can cause this problem because the hulls on the popped corn can be irritating to the anus. Some people suffer from mild anal fissures that can occur whenever they have a bowel movement; regardless of what they eat. TOO much cleaning with “soap” can cause itching because of wiping away the natural oils and secretions, and cause dryness and itching of the anal skin, so you should use a perineal wash or a mild natural soap to help maintain a good ph balance. Age can be a factor. Skin thins as we age and tears more easily; mild fissures. Loss of strength in the sphincter can cause leakage or smearing, resulting in itching. There are so many different causes so if you’re a hygienic person and you know it, ignore the stupid comments. AND, having an itchy anus DOES NOT mean you have foreign parasites.

Don't ask me why or how, but I had severe anal itching for more than SIX years. Until literally one week ago. And most importantly, just be patient,it doesn't end within a minute, it takes weeks and you have to be very disciplined, apply it in the morning and when you sleep.Speak with a pharmacist for more advice about such products. I thought of also seeing a Doctor that time but I'm not on a medical aid and a student, so i couldn't afford a Doctor. But you can also go a clinic too and see if they really help, otherwise clinics this side in South Africa are very poor, everything is slow and if you don't have patience, you won't get help.

I started having constant anal itching a week and a half ago. Now, I do not care at all about any stigma, I know doctors have seen things a million times worse and more humiliating than an itchy rectum, but.. I'm a broke student without health insurance. I read that beer is the worst alcohol for causing anal itch. Last night, no beer, but had a few margs with a friend. Today, the itch has been here, but not as bad. We'll do no drinking tonight and see what tomorrow feels like. I live a relatively healthy diet otherwise; eggs, toast, apples, beef, cheese are my typical daily foods. I'm off caffiene, quitting nicotine (withdrawal itches from that are more on my limbs/face), and I shower daily, using a wash cloth to gently but thoroughly clean out the card reader with old spice body wash. We'll see if no beer helps first.

To avoid an itchy anus, use tissue after a stool and even after u've urination , as u normally would. Then Use water to wash it, a jug of water should do it, then after that dry ur self up with tissue properly and u won't have a problem. Tissue+water+tissue= clean genitals.

I'm surprised that he's a butt doctor and doesn't know that using regular soap is many times the cause of the itch. Use unscented soap, clear up the problem using OTC hydrocortisone itch cream until it no longer itches, and don't use scented soap again. A fungus or yeast infection can cause that, dogs can get yeast infections in their paws, which can transfer to humans, look for red sores between the pads, this type of " fungus " can also go internally if not treated, it will make your joints swell and cause problems walking etc.... Similar to athletes foot, ringworm etc.... but when this transfer's to human's it can also cause sore's similar to bed bug bites, large patches of dry skin with a scaly appearance, itchy eyes, feeling like something just bit you.
