Good job. If you only have 3 drinks a week its going to throw a monkey wrench into you. Young people will say its no big deal, and it may not be at the moment, but when you get older you’re gonna pay. The biggest lie about drinking is, if you’re not drinking you’re missing out. Im on day 3 of my 4th attempt, I know from experience the first weekend is the first milestone. It’s wednesday right now, I won’t notice a difference till Monday morning, all I can do is wait. The best thing you can do is never drink again, there’s zero benefits to drinking, in fact there’s only negative consequences. The choice is yours.

I started to chase the sober train 2 years ago. But I keep falling off of that sober train. At best I have gotten 3 months without drink. Once in a while for 2-3 days, I go wild and regret immediately. But I'm still trying to sober up. It is lot better than it was back in college when I used to heavy drink 2-3 times a week and I blacked out at least once a week, for three years. If any of you strangers are reading this wish me luck. I wish you good luck on your pursuit of keeping that bottle as far away as possible from your hand. Thank You.

1 week sober today. 😀 I'm 20 and had alcohol issues since about 16 and thats bad... I know, it is my fault. I used to run away at 13 to 15 to drink and do drugs with friends and was a hard to control child and it would be hard to keep me home. 15 the alc issues got worse and 16 I was hooked until 20. I quit cold turkey last year for 26 days then relapsed. The first few days sober this year I was really sad, shaking lots, full of nausea & vomiting everyday... my dad said I was having withdrawls, I would always drink tea and try sweat everything out of my system with hot showers. These past few days now, I have been really happy, my energy came back, sleeping pattern is great, I been eating normally and healthier, my dad also noticed I been happier and he seems really proud of me, I'm proud of myself too and I don't want to ruin that. I also cut ties with people who drink lots (my ex & friends). When I was drinking I had a messed up sleeping pattern and that was fixed in just a week, soooo much have changed, I feel soo great its hard to explain lol...

ive been drinking everyday, usually about a fifth of vodka a night since november 2019 with hardly any days off. im only 19. november 2020 i got a puppy and he was sick and almost died, only a month old. just now in may of 2021 ive started to become more sober, on 9 days right now and im finally starting to wake up earlier and spend my days with my pup until i have work. it feels so much better for both of us, although i do feel bad for the lack of attention i gave him for 6 freakin months!

I tried to go a full year a few years ago, though I only made it 260 days I loved it. It wasn't my cravings for alcohol that drove me back, the fact was that my wife was still drinking and she was never really onboard with the whole year idea. Whenever we'd go out for dinner we'd always have drinks or sometimes we'd just go out for drinks, especially in the summer at a few favorite places where we can sit outside. She enjoyed the lower checks at the end of the night, but would express her awkwardness of it just being her drinking, this also came up during the holidays, a trip we took and a family wedding. Don't get me wrong, I'm the one who caved, so I'm not blaming her, I tried to moderate when I started drinking again, but that didn't last long. Lately she' been cutting back a bit, so I'm hoping to try again come January. In the meantime I'm going to join her in the cutting back and hope she sees the benefits on her own, not expecting her to join me for the whole year, but maybe this time the atmosphere will be different. May start asking about alcohol free beers at some of the places we go, that way it'll look like I'm drinking. I tried a few at a beer festival this past summer and they weren't too bad!

I have read most of these comments. Different levels of drinking and what you personally call ‘sober’ and when hardest of days getting and being sober. On another site, i was totally ripped apart on a reply about what for ME: is hardest to get through this. I find the first 3 days hardest to get through then im ok but then boom those cravings hit and it is a strong fight of the will to push through. We all have our varying amounts of consumption and our own ways to get through, and every day passes of no drinking is ‘sober’ the hardcore drinkers quitting yes takes longer in your journey but it tears my heart out when we all as who we are trying our best to quit then i read the demeaning comments on all ‘quit drinking’ channels. Whether you drink a bottle of wine a night or bottle of spirit, and giving up, our individual recovery is our own. Keep going, dont give up push through the hard days! Day 1 or years sober: Well Done.

Alcohol is so debilitating for what it is. I got to a point where I found it to be closer to a toxin like a jug of bleach and less like a treat. It's basically a pig wearing lipstick and I started to see through the marketing and image these huge companies want the public to believe. It literally has no value and never really helped me with anxiety issues or decompressing because of the horrible side effects. You'd have to drink this shit all the time and never come down which obviously isn't sustainable. Getting the mind to realize what the body already knows is the job of the drinker. The mind is simple, it just follows established links to a fault and doesn't deviate even if if harm is being done unlike the body that will puke or feel terrible. The day that you wire the mind to follow what the body knows and see alcohol in reality which is ethanol and not meant to be inside the human body. That breaks the cycle because it won't be linked to a pleasure fix for stress relief or anything fun. It might take several attempts to do this and years maybe but it's the only long term way. Will power and counting days doesn't address the root cause or change it. I only drank occasionally but would notice I always felt less than stellar, didn't sleep great, was dehydrated and wasted the next day eating junk and watching tv. Sometimes just once a month and I noticed it was really harmful. The one drug they pick to make legal is probably the worst one by far.

It’s amazing how we think “I’ll need a drink to get through this!” Or “it’s the only thing that keeps me sane.” Or “it helps my anxiety!” And it does absolutely none of that if you cannot control your drinking. It takes knowing it’s just not an option and building a relationship with God or something bigger than you… to quit. We don’t leave this earth in our bodies but we can poison our minds, guts and souls with alcohol. I hear of more BAD things that happen with alcohol… violence, sickness, loss than anything positive. 11 months sober but I don’t really count. God Bless my fellow alcoholics who battle with this - whether you are sober or not it still hurts so IMO it’s just better to not drink.

8 days sober after 2 year hard alcohol binge. That and COVID made me go from 135lbs to 192lbs I was on the edge of diabetes. I been drink water a ton. Only water. I started walking 1 hour twice a day. Eating healthier. I always cooked my own food so it wasn’t hard to make certain changes. I’m hoping for my next doctor appointment in 3 weeks I lose 17 lbs which I know is a lot but that’s my next goal. I completely cut out auger and lowered my salt intake drastically. By my b day July 22 I hope to be at 160-165 or even lower. 15,000 steps a day. Next a work out schedule. The worst part of quitting was boredom but over all it was easy to stop when I started thinking about it differently.

Keep doing it. Once you hit a couple of months, you will feel fantastic. Most of the shit will have passed. If you screw up, try again, never stop trying.
