They look great! Very happy because I have some on order myself. Just as a bit of help to anyone who reads this comment, DO NOT skip using copper paste or similar when fitting these hinges. The galvanic corrosion that can occur between stainless steel and aluminium can be a right pain, especially if you live near the sea. I'd always recommend Tef Gel which is a Teflon-based paste that entirely eliminates the chemical process, I'm a Marine Engineer and we use it on everything. It's about £16 on ebay and lasts ages.

Thanks Andrew- and great tip! I did use copper paste on mine but will look in to this Tef Gel 👌🏻👌🏻

Instead of replacing the hinges, you can fit the steel plates that hook behind the door seal lip so removing the bolts securing the hinge to bulkhead does not free the door. You can also hammer ball bearings into the Torx bolt heads to make using a Torx tool or drilling the heads off impossible.
@thedoctorsgarage2 жыл бұрын
These ones have that mechanism too so even if thr bulkhead bolts are drilled out you can’t take the hinge off

2:38 from what I can see the bolts are just Torx pin / 6 lobe !? Pretty standard and not specially made for Optimill. There ARE various keyed and uncommon bolts available, but usually you have to register to buy them and the matching tools are expensive.

Those front door hinges are no more secure than standard hinges. Thieves undo the front bolts, so hidden rear bolts do nothing. Those Torx bolts with the central pin are common, as are the tools to remove them. Far better to use regular Torx or Allen head bolts and hammer a ball bearing into the socket once tightened up - that will be a pig to remove to get a tool onto the bolt or to drill the head off. TMD sell plates that fit under the nuts on the inside of the door, the plates hooking around the inside of the door seal lip on the bulkhead so even if those bolts are removed, the door is still held to the A-pillar (the rear bolts through the door frame can be turned, but as soon as they become loosened, the nut inside, being nylon, will turn with the bolt and not undo, so the plates will be kept in place). Bonnet hinges are worth replacing, though.
@thedoctorsgarage2 жыл бұрын
Hi Nick the Optimill ones also lock to the bulkhead I didn’t want to go in to explicit detail here on KZbin but you cannot remove the hinge by just unscrewing the bulkhead bolts!

Great video to help prevent your doors being stolen. I do think the front door hinges could have been designed like the rear hinges, with no exterior bolt heads to drill out/grind off, this would make it more difficult to steal the doors. Good to see the novelty of tapping the sound deadening, once it is fiited hasn't worn off😂👍

Still always better to park in a garage guarded by big dogs.....Nope forget that he said he would just poison any dogs? (tip if you dog starts frothing at the mouth and whining - maybe diahorrea......don't both of you take it to the vet....that is one of their trickses you see...while you are at the vet, they have your Landie or anything else they want.......awayyyyyyyyy. hi ho silver....awaaaaaaaay!!!!!!!

@@thedoctorsgarage No but it is always better to know what we are up against than find out the hard way....at least we can try to stop them.....but it's a bit like warfare...they come up with submarines...we invent tactics to kill their submarines.....they then find something else to attack with and we work on defence against that.....it's a sad indictment, but life is constant warfare (even against the taxman😉)
