Over here we got wipes with "flushable" on it. But only 1 at the time. But even then they become a problem. These also won't break down, if only 1 gets stuck somewhere, all the next ones will build up at that point.

I cannot stand people that put bloody wipes down the toilet.. its my biggest pet hate! There is no need to flush them! I'm passionate about wastewater and the sewer system.. plus I'd love to work at my local treatment works.. ive been and had a tour around the site and amount of 💩 thats unnecessary thats shouldn't be flushed is utterly unbelievable! Its just pure laziness xx

Use nappy bags to dispose of wipes and ladies hygiene items. That's what we do in our house and have been of years. The nappy bags go into the bin and then go out with the rest of the rubbish. If you don't want to use nappy bags use dog poo bags. Simple.

Years ago, my mum was the first house up the line from the sceptic tank for a development. There was a big to-do because all of the sanitary items being flushed burned out the pumps and flooded her basement. People were really indignent that they were being told what not to flush. I said maybe next time they could bail out her basement and dry it out.

I absolutely agree as our house is slightly below the main road and the drain in the lane outside our house is always getting blocked with wet wipes from the houses on the main road - even South East Water wrote to the section of houses causing the mess & at the moment it seems okay. Here in America, we have what is called Septic Systems in our yards that our waste is flushed into. A septic system typically receives all wastewater from a household, including water from toilets (blackwater), showers, sinks, washing machines, and dishwashers (greywater), which means human waste, toilet paper, soap, and water used for cleaning. How do drains in the UK work? Does the waste travel through a main drain system throughout the city, or do you guys have Septic Systems as well??

As this blockage was caused deliberately by unflushable foreign objects, that have been deliberately flushed, you should charge them DOUBLE. I would give the woman a shovel too, and make HER shovel out all her own rubbish that has caused this blockage into a bin bag. Let's then see how quickly she then repeats her stupidity again. Unfortunately, it's the only way that some people learn.
