Andy not sure of the dimensions but when the stands are fully extended can they straddle a manhole so you can get a top down view?

My first idea of sending the stands was to get the gopro further away from (the action) as one time I swear I could smell it through my speakers.

@@formhubfar in some cases it's perfect depends on the depth of the manhole tbh to have it too down view as it's too dark, I placed this one on the benching of the manhole due to its depth to get better viewing, fully stretched out the go pro stick, and it was pretty much swallowed in 💩💩 There's another video due to come in where I opened the stand up and sat it on the ladders inside the manhole 🤣 worked well. There's been less manhole dives for the go pro anyway 👌😎😁 Having a top down view of the whole manhole is difficult with the stand, it would have to extend out like a full right angle to get right above the manhole. Might work it I place it on top of a few things will have a go in the future 👌👌

We unblocked a 4inch main full of paper products and you could feel the pressure in the suck down the small pipe as it pulled down air into the cleanout pipe. That building had so much backup.

It’s a timing thing. If the job requires extended periods of time _in_ the confined space then H&S would be different, but this is technically a job that has _no_ confined space provision because the problem can usually be fixed without having to enter the confined space, and if they have to enter the confined space it’s only for a few seconds at most.

@@scottblack9837 obviously not because I only spent the last 15 years working as a paramedic and volunteer firefighter specialising in extraction and extrication. Confined spaces was part of my job description, but please tell me more about how this violated the Confined Space Regulation 1997? Specifically the provision that states “by virtue of it’s enclosed nature, presents. A _reasonably foreseeable specified risk”_ Those risks being; elevated risk of fire or explosion, loss of life by increased body temperature, loss of life from the buildup of fumes gasses or lack of oxygen, becoming trapped by free flowing solids, or a risk of drowning. There also has to be a ‘system of work’ in place that basically has to state ‘if the problem can be fixed _without_ entering the space, it must’. These guys clearly fixed the problem without having to spend any extended period of time in the space and it was only to fix a specific problem. The rest of the time they were _out_ of the space. Now consider that a septic tank that only services one household cannot produce enough material to present a reasonable risk of trapping with free moving solids or drowning, nor does household waste produce enough noxious fumes to risk asphyxiation, what part of the CSR1997 is being violated here? Or do I still know nothing? I only mentioned _time_ constraints because if you have to spend extended periods of time working in enclosed spaces, it has a different set of rules which includes pay provisions and insurance concerns. It also, depending on the nature of the work, would fall under Mining and Quarries Regulations 1954.

If he had fallen in the chamber and no harness on and not attached to a winch or fall arest how would the top man retrieve him? There are many different examples of confined spaces and manholes require what I have mentioned above. FACT

@@scottblack9837 probably not recently. The winch thing was probably covered in the on-site risk assessment. Also the amount of material in the manhole wouldn’t pose a drowning/asphyxiation risk so they wouldn’t be violating the law to wait for emergency services to get the guy out if he _did_ fall in, it would probably be deemed safe to wait in place in an emergency. Except in the instance the guy falls in head first.

@@jetter2-andy-539 If it makes you feel any better, it's the same over here in Norwich with Anglian Water ! We had the Council out 3 times to unblock drains on our property as we had the manhole for the whole run of houses... as soon as the feller got out of the van, the neighbors on the OPPOSITE side come out saying "my toilet wont flush". Massive issues with fat and nappies in the main drain outside were the cause. Last time it blocked I went over the road, asked them if their toilets were blocked and when they said yeah, I called Anglian Water myself. All they could say is "well no one has complained"... turns out no one wants to ring them because they think they'll get charged!

Really mixture of reasons, houses often share drains. Population density and proximity of houses too. Historic and current rules and regulations on separation of surface water and foul drains. Age of properties and the quality of historic drains compared to the PVC runs that have been fitted for the last 25+ years
