My old driving instructor use to shout at me all the times and made me dread driving lessons. He also use to be on on his phone the entire time! After 30 hours with him over a summer, I wasn’t test ready but didn’t want any more lessons with him so in the end my grandad did lots of practise with me and I passed a month later with 1 minor! Driving with my grandad made me realise that you shouldn’t dread driving lessons and I learnt to love driving again!

Same. Shouting, putting me down as a tactic to try and stop me from moving onto next skill, gaslighting me and telling me I needed her. It was so traumatic. I thought I was a terrible driver. I moved onto a great instructor. First lesson she took me onto a round about and motorway. She encouraged me to book my test. With the previous instructor I had never moved past stopping at junction and moving off, she wouldn’t let me do anything else said I wasn’t ready. After 5 lessons with the new instructor I passed. Now I’m training to be an instructor.

There are also lots of creeps out there 😢 people not being happy with their current instructor- don’t hesitate to search for better one, it is worth it. There’s just so many guys not taking this job seriously for some reason.

Francis 21:29 is the differance between bare right and turn right (as with the video we did) this bare right was a sharpish bend but still following the main road and not turning off. this is sometimes incorrect on the TomTom and as you know can be confusing which is why the Examiner (like you did) SHOULD clarify any confusion

My first instructor would get frustrated at my mistakes also. I changed and finally found an instructor who was younger but also very chilled like the good man of this channel. Through him my sister passed shortly after I did. Being kind and understanding pays dividends. I even managed to pass at the dreaded Erith test centre! Don't let any instructor make your driving experience something you don't look forward to. It's your time and money, spend both with someone who will be a help, not a hindrance.

She can 200% pass. The only thing she needs to work on is not concentrating so hard on what she is going to do like on the roundabout or road ahead but more try to relax and scan around her more than tunnel vision with concentrating so hard and then misses something. The 2 fails I think where good fails as she has learned how to hopefully avoid them fails by relaxing and taking in more than just what she wants to do. Yeah they are terrible instructors and I like that James is teaching more than just enough. Once you've learned something like parking on the left , then on the right. Once you've passed you ain't going to drive past a space that you can use.

Good luck with your driving test, you’ve got this! 🙃 I remember when I learnt to drive, my very first driving instructor was absolutely awful, he constantly shouted at me and he made me feel extremely uncomfortable nervous and anxious that it made me have diarrhoea before each driving lesson (sorry to sound so graphic), driving instructors have dual controls in their cars so I don’t understand why some of them have to be so mean, learning to drive with the right person is extremely important.

My instructor shouted at me constantly until the day before test day I snapped and pointed out that his shouting was making me make more mistakes. If I made a mistake he’d also tell me other drivers were laughing at me. Every small mistake he’d spend the rest of the lesson listing all the ways I could have killed someone if it had gone differently and at the end of the lesson he would tell me to think about that. He refused to do lessons on parking like I asked him to, I literally did each manoeuvre in his car once before test- had to practise them all on my own much bigger car. Absolutely awful! I’d have changed but the waiting lists are long and I had my test booked. Fortunately I didn’t need loads because I’d had a lot of private practise. After I passed he put his prices up which I thought was a bloody liberty given how awful he was. Test day he walked up to a young lad who had gone to test with his mate and criticised how he’d parked at the test centre telling him 3 mins before his test that he’d made it harder for himself forward parking. And when he saw which examiner I was going to have he told me how scary she was (she was actually lovely). Awful man. I want to complain to the dvsa but I don’t think he has many customers and I think he’ll know it was me- he knows where I live so I don’t even feel comfortable reporting him. I passed on Tuesday so I don’t have to see him again thank god!

Good Luck Jade for your Test, I'll offer a tip OK chill on the hill! You can do a hill start, stay calm "I can do this" add a tiny bit more gas than a regular move off get that biting point and when it's safe let the handbrake off and go and don't worry about cars behind they should be giving Learner cars a bit more space. When I was learning an Instructor hit me across the head with an RAC handbook. That was a Christmas or 50 back, My Mother was not impressed and She didn't sugar the pill!

Honestly had the same issue with her. First started driving way back 2018 when it was still cheap than todays prices. I was on a motorbike L Plate 125cc at that moment as well since 2016 just for work commute all year long rain or shine. I was test ready but did not went through with it cause the instructor had some anger issues. So I remained on a motorbike for work commute for a while. New instructor 2023 was better albeit he also had his issues mostly car break down. But he was a bit more chill and he was of a younger age than my original instructor. But I did past with the new instructor March 2024, with 1 minor. Sold the bike and bought a car. I low key regret not getting the license earlier on but it really is nice, to have your own vehicle without having to wear full gear and getting wet and cold on a motorbike. Although it was also fun riding around on a motorbike. Specially on sunny days. But yeah, your experience with training to drive is very dependent on how good your instructor's attitude is when it comes to teaching.

You never have to stay stuck with them! Your new instructor should assess your skill level on the first lesson or two and go from there! In March, I decided to start learning again after a 6 year hiatus. The instructor always got angry and would take phone calls, would tell me I’d probably pass in December or longer, and I’d paid for a block of 10 so I stayed until I’d used all the lessons. I just told her I wasn’t interested in learning anymore and went with the instructor that passed both my brothers. He built up my confidence, took my mistakes light-heartedly, had a laugh and answered every question. Next thing you know, I passed first time in August! That’s to say, staying with your current instructor is probably holding you back and will probably cost you more money in the end!
