my initial assessment was that Ed's mechanisms for power are a finite pool, which can lead to an early death if not dealt with. alchemy has limits, like losing an arm, leg, or body. the Avatar state is effectively going God-mode. the only downside to bending elements is concentration and focus

I agree with the outcome. Aang is most comfortable with Airbending, it was the element he learned first at a very young age alongside many other Airbending masters and students. Even early in the series he used Airbending to enhance his speed, ride on a ball of air, and all kinds of childish tricks, while he was playing around. It is very easy for him to control and use in everyday situations to assist him with things. In a battle like this, he would naturally be way faster than Ed, have quicker reaction time, be able to create or close distance between them in an instant, dodge his attacks, and launch surprise attacks too fast for Ed to react in time to dodge or block. As they highlighted, alchemy requires "clapping" your hands together and occasionally drawing symbols, unlike bending which Aang can use while his body is restrained to expel air from his mouth in order to attack or move around. As soon as Aang injures either of Ed's arms, Ed would be a sitting duck. And yeah, the Avatar State is very OP and I doubt Ed could handle that. Aang has so many options available to him that would mess Ed up, like creating a huge tornado or earthquake that would annihilate everything in the area, and Ed would have no way to escape fast enough.

Hello Hi, it's TRIVIA TIME As usual, DB Wiki is where to find these 1) The connections between Aang and Edward are that they both are young heroes with the ability to manipulate the environment around them, being able to do so to a greater capability/capacity than other such manipulators due to special traits; Aang is the Avatar, giving him the ability to manipulate all four elements, whilst Edward's Combat Alchemy lets him use Alchemy without the need for Transmutation Circles. Both have battled the corrupt governments of their worlds, and both have had encounters with the supernatural, with Aang being the host of a spirit and his trips to the Spirit Realm and Edward's encounters with the Homunculi, Father, and the Gate of Truth. 2) Ironically while this is an East meets West matchup, the American show Avatar is heavily inspired by Asian culture, while the Japanese anime FullMetal Alchemist is heavily based in European culture. 3) According to Death Battle Cast #135, This matchup almost got a spot in Season 5, but it was replaced with Sora VS Pit because Ben Singer wanted to make sure the studio had an animation team capable of animating the bending and alchemy. 4) This is the 4th Cartoon VS Anime/Manga themed episode, after Gaara VS Toph, Samurai Jack VS Afro Samurai, and Optimus Prime VS Gundam, and with the next 2 being Zuko VS Shoto Todoroki and newly revealed Saitama VS Popeye. 5) This is the 4th Death Battle to feature Boomstick making some type of Captain Planet joke, after Shao Kahn VS M. Bison, Ken VS Terry, and Thanos VS Darkseid, and with the next one being Sasuke VS Hiei. 6) An animation error is seen during the battle as Ed's Automail Arm is incorrectly placed on his left arm. This gets fixed during later parts of the battle. 7) The Cabbage Merchant makes a cameo appearance during the fight sequence of this Death Battle exclaiming 'NO! My Cabbages!' as he tends to do in Avatar: The Last Airbender when his beloved cabbage cart is tragically destroyed by the exploded pieces of Edward Elric's giant cannon. 8) In the background during the fight sequence, Appa's missing posters can be seen including the one that Toph Beifong aggressively glued to the wall backward. (This also implies that the entire fight scene took place in Ba Sing Se during Team Avatar's hunt for their missing Flying Sky Bison. However, this would be impossible, since Aang couldn't firebend or use the seismic sense at that point in the series.) 7) This is the 1st episode in where a combatant realizes they've met their match, with the next two being Deadpool VS Mask and Gray VS Esdeath. 7a) However, this is the only episode where the outmatched combatant gives up, whereas the other two keep fighting on. 8) This is the 4th time that a Death Battle episode was taken down due to a copyright strike, after Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Battle Royale, Ragna VS Sol Badguy, and Ultron VS Sigma with the next one being Beerus VS Sailor Galaxia (and while most of these have been restored over time, at the time of this comment Beerus VS Sailor Galaxia is still not back up) TRACK!! The track for the fight is "Elements of Alchemy" by Werewolf Therewolf. It is an Eastern style piece (emulating the styles used in Avatar) with a heavy emphasis on violins (similar to the Fullmetal Alchemist soundtrack) and occasional electric guitar. Aang's theme is remixed near the ending of the track. The track's title combines the two key powers of Aang and Ed's respective universes (the four elements and alchemy, respectively). The cover image shows a transmutation circle surrounded by the four elements as the air surrounding the circle takes the form of arrows, representing the Air Nomads. The way the elements surround the circle is reminiscent of Aang's Avatar State. MY THOUGHTS!! (Spoilers for the outcome) Ohhhh boy, this fight... This fight is pretty hated amongst the Death Battle community as well, thought not NEARLY to the same extent as Ben 10 VS Green Lantern or the two Goku VS Supermans. The main gripe people have with this episode is how it poorly portrayed both characters. Aang, a character who tried his hardest to spare the life of a genocidal tyrant and the man who was responsible for the most deaths in his universe because he wanted to find another way to resolve things without resorting to bloodshed, says he is "left no choice" when a random stranger gets into a fight with him over a misunderstanding and traps him under some rocks. Now obviously this is a death battle, so you have to end with one character killing the other, but most Avatar fans and Death Battle community members have expressed that they could've done so much better than what they did in the episode. Either they should have: a) Aang kill Edward on accident (you could say that it would be disrespectful to both characters for Aang to win on accident, but it wasn't like Edward could really...do anything in the state he was in) b) Aang show genuine remorse over killing Edward or c) Aang should've just not said anything at all, because at least no response would've been better than a bad response Edward meanwhile gets reduced to short jokes, and they ride that out RIGHT to the very end. I'm sure FullMetal fans can attest that there is FAR more to Edward than just "he gets angry when people bring up his height", but if you watched this episode with no knowledge of the character (kinda like a certain Duck I could mention for most of these episodes) then your first impression of Edward might just be that he's Bakugo from My Hero Academia with how loud, whiny and abrasive he is for starting a literal fight with a stranger for a misunderstanding... I'll stop now before I ramble on because I can genuinely go on for much longer. Good points of the episode, the voice acting is really nice. Oh and Ghost Rider is in the next episode who is one of the COOLEST characters in fiction, I will die on this hill with weapons in my hand.

I should've used "dislike" instead since unlike the aformentioned episodes this episode didn't cause any controversy among the viewers and the winner is unanimously agreed upon. I will say though that most death battle fans consider this episode to be one of the weakest episodes in the season, if not the weakest overall because Season 6 is genuinely one of the best seasons they've done and this episode kinda falls behind the pack.

The 2003 version of FMA is definitely worth a watch. The first half of the series roughly corresponds to the first ten episodes of Brotherhood, with a couple filler episodes but it's not rushed and allows for greater character development during that arc. It was being produced while Arakawa was still writing the manga so eventually they caught up to her and she gave them her blessing to create their own novel ending to the manga. You can think of it as an alternate timeline/universe of events. It's actually very, very good, and personally between the two versions I prefer it (heresy I know), so definitely check it out, just make sure to watch the FMA film "Conqueror of Shamballa" after the last episode, it's the grand finale of the series. Also if you'd like more FMA in general, there's the film 'The Sacred Star of Milos' which is a standalone epic that you could head-canon as fitting in somewhere in the twenties of the Brotherhood series.

I think the original FMA is viewed as a still good classic for the time by fans but it has the problem of the Hellsing TV anime series in which it deviated from the source material into straight up fanfiction territory not too long in. So when Brotherhood, an actual full length adaptation of the completed manga came out, it was like getting the actual story that was meant to be.

Yeah, it's pretty clear why Aang won. Ed is strong, but Aang is RIDICULOUS. The Avatar State really ends this fight, Ed really can't compete with that. Edward COULD pull out a win, but he'd need to use Scar's alchemy attacks on Aang quickly and just keep pressing him. Aang however specializes in avoid and evade as an Airbender, plus with Seismic Sense he's nearly impossible to sneak up on. He would certainly keep his distance from Ed as much as possible, and with his mobility he can certainly do it. Ed's victory is much less reliable than Aangs, so Aang wins. Alright! Ghost Rider vs Lobo! You're gonna enjoy this one I think. Oh boy!

This was a really fun battle. I wish it was a bit closer, but Ed really couldn’t win in many ways. I think my only wish for this fight was that it wasn’t a sprite fight. But that’s it. You should really watch FMA 2003. It’s on par with BH in my mind and adds a great deal of context to BH. And BH kinda needs that context to work to its best ability in the rules of the world. Also it’s a fight between 2 pacifists. Ed eventually kills Father, and Aang PERSONALLY kills the vulture wasp while the avatar state has a HUGE body count. And that’s a different consciousness. Also was hoping for your input last comment! Let’s me put into account extra info when I’m analyzing!

Ed never had a chance for victory, but this isn't what makes me see this as a spite match. The thing that would have made me see this as a spite match is the fact that he is boiled down to "haha short angry dude with size complex"... if it wasn't for the fact that Aang's character was just as butchered as Ed's . Sure, he is not that violent by Death Battle standard but by standards of how he was portrayed in Avatar TLAB, he is downright bloodthirsty.

Yeah... Ed is an atheist in both continuities but to be fair, after the life he lived and the sins he committed (despite his good intentions) it’s as good a coping mechanism as anything else. Also, “better” is subjective. The first series had to do their own storyline since the manga was still ongoing and Brotherhood follows the manga completely. Both series are really good, and I’d argue the first series did some things better, it’s just Brotherhood is the canon continuity.

I would say the first half of the first series is better than the first half of brotherhood, but brotherhood's second half is a lot better than most of the original series. They still have their own strenghts and i definetley agree that there are things the first series did that were certainly better, but i would still say that brotherhood overall is the more complete package at least. I think the first series does get a really bad rep for how it kinda botched the ending pretty hard, while Brotherhood on the other side had a nearly perfect ending, and since the ending is the last thing in peoles mind's, i think most just leave both series with that idea that brotherhood is objectviley better in every way, which i do not think is right either.

@@calebgoodman2076 My personal opinion on it is a bit split. Without the movie, the ending is kind of unsalvagable in my opinion, but with the movie it kinda throws a weird twist into the entire show that i dont really agree with. The entire twist thats connected to the movie is just something i really dont think the series ever needed, making a lot of the ending itself as well as the movie feel very unnecessary to me. It is not technically bad, but i just dont really see a point to it, you know ? Brotherhood meanwhile managed to keep everything nicley wrapped up and neatly self-contained, all in all, there isnt really any point at the ending of Brotherhood that seems pointless, pretty much every lose end is tied up nicley and the ending is overall satisfying. Which i think definetley makes Brotherhood's ending very good. The first series on the other hand, with the inclusion of the movie, just throws so many questions into the world building of the entire show that the ending feels very messy and unresolved as a whole, if you ask me. Dont get me wrong, there is definetley stuff that is good about it, and there are definetley things about it i enjoyed as well, but i think it just overall leaves you much less satisfied than what Brotherhood did.

Well actually, the manga wasn't even made until after the anime started. So it was actually the manga that diverged from the anime.

Despite all the numbers on Aang’s side, I feel Ed still had respectable odds of winning. He was smarter and had plenty of versatility Aang had never seen before. Not to mention Destruction Alchemy was a solid instant win move on paper. If Ed was able to stall the fight out long enough to strategize (and avoid breaking his auto-mail arm) he could reasonably take a win fair and square. But I can’t deny that Aang’s raw power made the odds of something like that happening very low. But enough about this battle. Let’s talk about next time. Lobo is… *sigh* He’s DC’s equivalent to Deadpool, but he trades off extensively breaking the fourth wall in favor of being just a gigantic, overpowered asshole. You hate to love him and love to hate him.

This felt like another one sided fight. Not sure why it was these two also. Wouldn't Ed vs Toph make more sense? 3:10 Sozin did plan it out, preparing his armies and timing it with the comet. Hence why it took him over 10 years to start

maybe, since earth is the element Ed knows most, but then again, it wouldn't change much since once you get rid of one of Ed's arms, that's pretty much game since his casting speed is lowered dramatically.

Some say Aang and Ed's characters were not well represented. But anyway, the name of this song is "Elements of Alchemy" and it's the reason I don't listen to songs before the battle ends, as something like using the "Avatar State" music at the very end spoils the fight.

literally none of the Ben vs Hal debunks on youtube make any sense at all, I'm sad you want to waste your time on them. The post-fight verdict just had like one or two sentences poorly worded, that's the only real flaw, the result is still absolutely correct. In fact they made it look a lot closer than it really is. Even just the black boxes with text within the actual episode tells you more than enough to remove the debunk arguments, who make very little sense even just by themselves.
