Because those really aren’t the same character. ‘03 Ed could maybe be coerced into killing but manga Ed not so much. ---Manga spoilers--- Manga Ed is so wholly against killing that he wasn’t even willing to use a philosopher’s stone to save his own life when he was impaled by an I-beam, nor was he willing to use Hoenheims’s own willfully gifted life energy *or* a philosopher’s stone to save Al’s life. If those two scenarios weren’t even enough to make him *consider* using an already-made philosopher’s stone then I don’t think anything could convince him to kill.

Jimmy can shrink Dexter's bots to the size of an ant while making himself bigger than a planet, he can slow down and speed up time, Jimmy also has Godard who's a whole plethora of different inventions, an interdimetional cube he can trap Dexter in and quite a few more stuff up his sleeve.

As much as I love both these characters, and the shows they're attached to, Ed never had a chance. Aang honestly wouldn't even have to use the Avatar State to beat Ed. It'd just be overkill. Ed is one of my favorite anime characters of all time, but he doesn't really scale to end of show Aang. The scale of his bending outshines any alchemy displayed by Ed. The most impressive alchemy Ed ever displayed was when he was enraged by the assumed death of Al, and attacked Father with all he had. Even that doesn't compare to Aang destroying airships, kicking giant rock pillars, and creating tsunamis. Honestly, you could take beginning of show, Avatar State Aang, and he'd probably win handily against end story Ed. I do think beginning of show to maybe around mid-show Ed could probably beat normal Aang, however. At the end of the day Aang is still a 12 year old monk, and while young himself, Ed is a genius alchemically and intellectually. He could probably outsmart Aang with relative ease. But going off the fact that these would both be end of show characters, Aang with his elemental mastery, and mastery over the Avatar State, he would win with little to no difficulty

Lightning bending yes powerful but can be countered as Iroh and Zuko showed us when redirecting it. But blood bending really has no counter except for maybe air bending to the point of not being able to catch the target or some form of bending that doesn't let the blood bender focus such as earth bending or air bending which can be used and not actually seen in a sense, Air bending is actually the most powerful and versatile bending (Zaheer with his technique that takes air out of the lungs), Water bending is the most useful as it can be combined with every other bending force, Earth bending is the most defensive as you can use earth to block almost anything if used correctly, Fire bending is the most forceful as it can blow away almost anything and only gets stronger when combined with the other elements. So it really depends on the user when saying what technique or bending skill is the most powerful.

If Ed was actually willing to kill, all he would have to do is touch someone. He learned from Scar that you can use alchemy to destroy bodies and materials instantly without the reconstruction stage. Granted, Aang could probably just suck the air out of any vicinity and suffocate someone to death very quickly, but Ed is probably smart enough to think of an alchemical response to that. Ed is not only a walking, magic using human weapon, but an absolute genius.

It ultimately comes down to an unanswered question, how would bending scientifically work? Hypothetically the most probable method given magic formula is expressed through movement and connecting to the element, would be electromagnetism or hypothetically an elemental magnetism. Which presuming Ed could figure that yeah he could interfere with Aang's abilities. Possibly even shut down the Avatar state. Problem is it all hinges on Ed figuring it out which would literally be an author's call since Ed is unquestionably smart enough to figure that out in a reasonable enough timeframe to win. They focus too much on power. Sidenote a better matchup for each since they really gotta consider type, Aang is a goofball he's a chaos type, Edward Elric is calculated, a strategist type, he's on the complete opposite end of that spectrum. Avatar Aang vs Strawhat Luffy(though after Gear 5 that's a squash it would at least be fun) Edward Elric vs either Kurama, Kurapika, or maybe Jing the King of Bandits. (Lesser known character, highly recommend the series, it's probably one of the most imaginatively beautiful manga series ever and clearly a visual influence on other manga series like One Piece and Soul Eater)

they didnt learn to bend their nations element "eventually" they unlocked it from magic turtles. No joke. Originally humanity lived in giant cities on the backs of magical turtles. if you spoke to your native one. It would grant you the element temporarily so you can hunt, you had to return it after. Bending was a weapon not ability. But the first avatar kept the ability and hid it from the turtle. After he was caught, he asked the turtle to keep it foolishly, and it agreed, however he had to be banished from society blah blah blah. You can watch it in Korra somewhere in season 2.

The moon and ocean spirits are... odd cases, but the Lion Turtles probably naturally had the ability to bend chi, unlocking (and sealing away) elemental bending. They used this to give humans bending. Technically all humans COULD bend all four elements, it just didn't work out that way. However, the Dragons, Sky Bison and Badger Moles probably naturally had chi that allowed them to bend a particular element. Maybe that's how the Lion Turtles found out elemental bending was a thing. Regardless, while the Lion Turtles GAVE humanity bending, the animals and spirits TAUGHT humanity bending.

There’s a million ways to deal with a bloodbender you just need some forward thinking, just set a trap it’s so simple”(please know that I was pretty young back then and didn’t know that our body is 70% water) But my point is: from a practical perspective lightning bending is a thousand times more lethal and hard to counter than Bloodbending (except if you’re Aang)

Lightening bending is fine, but I'm far more terrified of bloodbending or magma bending; lightening comes out, you can either redirect it, or die quick not too concerned. I do NOT want my body yanked around by the liquids within or to be suffocated with boiling earth. THOSE are terrifying ways to go out...

Waterbending is by far the most powerful form of bending from a lethality standpoint. Waterbenders could just flash boil your internal fluids into steam. Every tissue would expand 1,000x in volume. You'd literally blow up like Doc Manhattan exploding Rorschach. They only didn't do anything with it because it was a kid's show. Also I think they only thought up Bloodbending too late in the series which is why it only comes up in like one and a half episodes.

Just to clarify: Aang didn't just react to the lightning, he was fast enough to see it, catch it, aim it at the fire lord, rethink his choices and then redirect the lightning to the side. He could've ended that fight right then and there even without the Avatar state, but he held back.

In real time he was able to jump to another boulder and turn and catch it while it was coming toward him, while he's consistently been tagged by slower objects or barely moving fast enough to just dodge them. That's clearly showing how slow the lightning was instead of how fast he is.

Plenty of anime characters have obscene reaction times but, can only run, jump, or otherwise travel at much more realistic speeds. Also, many of the attacks you noted Aung was not fully aware of until later thus highlighting his reaction times. Not hurting the argument. Hes got a quick draw. He is not omnipotent and cannot see all angles at all times nor can he ignore inertia. He is pretty fast but, the show did highlight that it took effort to change from 1 high speed attack or dodge to another especially if it was a complete opposite direction.
