The children that grew up infused with a tailed beast developed higher levels of chakra (power/energy, kinda like ki from DBZ) of their own that's not specifically from the monster as a natural response to containing the monster within. Gaara can literally drop an entire desert on Toph and then crush her, there's really no way for her to stop it. Gaara is WAY more powerful in every respect except sensory. In terms of knowing where the enemy is, she's certainly better at it, but it's not like she could effectively hide from Gaara AND get past his defenses. It took Lee moving at STUPID speeds to get through them. Toph is awesome, but she can't beat Gaara.

This battle I disagree purely based on the power Scaling between naruto and TLA. Even if his sand were to be useless, Shinobis can basically move at supersonic speeds far beyond what TLA characters are capable of and Gaara is kage level. He probably could have just beat her up with his fists. He never uses Taijutsu in the show but he definetly is adept at it. Also his attacks should move at a level where Toph would be unable to react even if she saw them coming.

The entire plot of Naruto is that there are 9 tailed beasts (each with a number of tails from 1-9), super monsters with a destructive power on the level of nukes, and these different ninja clans put the tailed beasts into newborns to contain them. Most of these children grew up completely isolated and hated by their own clans because of the terror they represent. This is revealed at the beginning of the anime. Naruto has the 9 tailed beast inside of him, which makes him the protagonist because he has the greatest potential for power. Gaara has the 1-tailed beast.

And toph's daughter suyin dodged and outran a laserbeam in the cannon of the mech while destroying it. And several airbenders dodged it while fighting the mech in midair.

@@danielwilson8604 combustion man was not lightspeed at the very least, I would say he is faster than sound. The fight against kuvira, didn't show them moving at lightspeed, the collosus was moving slow and it had a recharge time so they can all prepare to dodge it or move in a certain direction.

Honestly they gave Yang the win in that fight for no other reason that she's a character created by RT. Tifa can suplex fucking *gods* the size of a skyscraper unbelievably casually. Genuinely the most pervasive bias in any of their episodes that I've seen. There is no reasonable world that Yang takes Tifa.

Yeah they did mess it up MOSTLY by misunderstanding how Earthbending works. I understand how they were mistaken, but they were wrong. Gaara can literally drop an entire desert onto her and then crush her into paste, and there is really nothing Toph can do to stop him. Not to mention just because she can see his attacks coming doesn't mean she can actually avoid them. They're far too flexible and fast for her to run away for long. Not to mention she doesn't really do much running and dodging, she stands her ground and blocks and attacks. That would work very well for Gaara as he can just do what he loves to do, keep throwing sand at her until it collects around her, then just restrain her with it. She has no ability to just nope sand that is being controlled by someone MUCH more powerful than her, with or without use of her limbs. Gaara can literally catch massive chunks of the moon threatening to smash his village, Toph really doesn't have a chance. If we're giving Gaara Shukaku, then it's even worse cause he can just turn giant and squish her, or bomb her and the mountain she's standing on. It would probably take a fully realized Avatar to even have a chance at beating Gaara, and even then I'm not certain Gaara would lose. Would be one hell of a fight though.

This is one of the clear mistakes from Death Battle. Toph had no chance. Gaara is FAR stronger and earthbending isn't as flexible or powerful as Gaara's sand. This dude can literally throw an entire desert at her and then smash her to paste, there's really nothing Toph can do against that. Toph also can't bend if her arms and legs are being restrained, they had no justification for keeping her alive through the things they themselves animated. They overestimated Toph and greatly underestimated Gaara. The dude literally caught a METEOR.

I disagree with this death battle entirely. As someone who's watched both of these shows (too much in fact), and as someone who creates death battles in his own mind 24/7, I don't see any reason for toph to actually win. Just because she could sense the sand doesn't mean she would be able to dodge or block against them, and what's more, Gaara's sand would have defended him just like it did with rock lee, before toph could even get to him. I mean, rock lee in sixth gate literally, only barely punched/kicked through Gaara's automatic defense, and he was moving at the speed of sound. Also, Gaara would not be k.o'd by an elbow to the neck, because he has already been shown taking a direct hit to the head, and coming out of the entire fight basically unscathed. Also, they forgot the part where Gaara can control every ounce of sand around him as long as he has the chakra for it. And considering he was still a child when he fought kimimaro, and used sand that was capable of covering an entire forest, I'ma stand by my statement and say that they underutilized Gaara's sand manipulation here. And Gaara could have quite literally incased and trapped toph in a sand coffin before she could even understand what was happening, by converting every ounce of rock and or dry dirt in the vicinity into sand. They put Gaara in a desert scenario and literally forgot the fact that Gaara was basically a deity in that specific place.

Gaara's sand could not crush bones that were twice as strong as steel. let that sink in Toph regularly crushes, folds, and manipulates steel and stronger material like it is wet tissue paper. tbh i wish a lot of people who watch death battle would take up the idea of "The results don't really matter, so just have fun watching the cool animation" Death Battle isn't perfect, nothing really is, and no one except the creators of the characters know how strong they are, and only they can really say who would win in a fight. No matter who wins there's probably countless mistakes, and thats fine people make those, but arguing over it is pointless because it gets to a point where no-one will be satisfied by any ruling, ande of course there are some people who swear "(X) should have won because (Y)" but really everyone should just shut up and enjoy the animation.

So this fight actually made no sense. Yes she can see everything that is connected to the surface she is on but he was using sand to float so she shouldn't be able to see him. Also his sand moves faster than the speed of sound considering he took out a sound shinobi before he was even hit once. Add to that Toph didn't learn sand and mud bending fully until after Avatar she should still feel somewhat uneasy on this constantly shifting sand.... If she has all abilities however despite age shown then Garra should have Shukkaku who uses air bullets, a high density blast of wind with enough force to destroy small mountains. Then to add more against toph here Garra never used his best skills. The shield and spear of Shukkaku, and of course his sand senbon where he makes thousands of sand needles as strong as steel and rains them down on his enemies at the speed of litteral rain. Tops might be able to change the composition but she can't see it until it hits her at which point she is a porcupine at best.... Seriously they did my boy dirty here.

Did you watch the end explanation of the battle at all? 1. Toph can sense ALL forms of earth whether or not they are connect to the ground. 2. Gaara is definitely faster than sound, but Toph is faster than Light. Case in point: Toph is faster than Aang and Zuko, both of which have massive light speed feats. 3. By the end of the show, it was explicitly stated that Toph had mastered sandbending and it was no longer a weakness of any kind for her. 4. Shukaku has sand and air, not just air, plus she can detect its movement and move out of the way or redirect it with his own sand. 5. There would be no chance for gaara to use his abilities, Toph can practically one shot him form anywhere. He has earth all around him and toph can just crush him in it from any distance. 6. Toph can sense and redirect any earthen attack against her, his needles would be pointless. In my opinion, they didn't give Toph enough justice in her victory.

But let's not forget he intersected an attack from the Raikage who was moving at almost lightspeed. No one ESPECIALLY Toph can move that fast. They nerfed the hell out of Gaara and buffed toph. Toph has NEVER been shown to have to ability to control sand she isn't directly touching. Her BEST sand feat was remaking a town as a miniature version, which is not useful for combat. Toph has also never shown the ability to control an element someone else is actively controlling. It seems impossible for earthbenders in the show. At best they redirect it when it's close. Gaara controls each grain of sand with his chakra/moms soul. This also ignores that Gaara can think and react significantly faster than her based on rock Lee and Sasuke at the five Kage summit. He should have been able to kill toph before she could react. This battle was so wrong it was almost funny.

Casually outspeeds zuko and aang, both of which are faster than light. Defeated old man iron, a sprit god that possessed a suit of armor. Gaara has sand. that is his only weapon. magnet release and wind release sound cool, but they don't do anything except help control his sand. Toph has total mastery over these forms of bending: stone, metal, mineral, sand, mud, dirt, earth. She has numerous avenues of attack, including his own sand.

Also garras sand tanked a C3 BOMB from dardara this explosion would have wiped out the entire sand village. Which despite the name is country sized. Meaning a non prime garras sand was able to tank Country level attacks Garra also has way more experience then toph. Not to mention garra con fully control the dencety of his sand and has gold dust mixed in. She does have great sandbending but it doesn't hold a candle to garras sand control. Now maybe provide Tophs feats that put her above garra. Because trying to down-scale my character doesn't up-Scale yours.

@@haku8135 no Toph does not do it in the show but it is stated by the writers in an interview. So I don’t blame death battle at all for not saying or showing but it is head canon from the writers. But she can by the time she is seen in Korra. And benders can manipulate an element already being manipulated. We are talking about it in terms of peak performance of a character. And how they’ve evolved. It’s most of the time a preference to just dodge and counter for Toph with her neutral jing mastery. So what you are looking at in animation is fully experienced Toph vs fully experienced Gaara. At age 12, she is able to create a tiny STURDY structure of sand in the form of Ba Sing Se with a stomp and a single movement. Also at a decent range. Of all the clips I have seen of Gaara, most of his moves are malleable and a lot of his big moves are falling apart. The most earth we’ve seen Toph move is the staircase at the castle top to bottom, and she folded the WHOLE staircase. That’s not prime Toph and she can reach at ludicrous range. In multiple different places with next to no movement and again, we’ve never seen Toph so much as out of breath, even in her 80s. I feel like both of us are blocked by nostalgia here at the end of the day.

This is one they screwed up on. You had it right when you picked up she shouldn't have known exactly where he was. Her ability too see is limited to whatever she's directly connected to, plus he turned the battlefield into a desert so she'd have a harder time seeing him in the first place. His movement and reaction speed is far greater than hers so he would have easily been able to attack her while the sand would defend him, she can't prevent it since it acts as a entity of its own. We never actually see her harden very large amounts of sand either, only a bit around her body which shouldn't be nearly enough too stop a sand coffin going by the things we've seen him crush with it.

For how many people say this one was wrong, I dont see it. Gaara is more powerful overall but they are right in that Toph had the technique to beat him. Plus Toph could totally just crush him in his own armor, and there's no reason to say she can't bend all his attacks away. I'm not saying she would win 100% kf the time but she stands more of a chance than people give her, enough to give her the win more than 50% of the time I'd imagine.

Nah it's more like 20%. All Toph can really do is give him more sand. His sand can protect him free of his own will. Meaning it has it's own will and can certainly resist being bent. Gaara can resist the sand he is controlling atm bent because toph cannot control chakra. Sure technique is important but Gaara can control sand on a much larger level than She can. Not to mention he has lightning, Earth, and Wind chakra natures. Gaara's armor, while durable isnt very thick and there isnt much sand that contributes to it. So the moment it began to get controlled gaara or the sand itself would do something about it. My final argument is, Gaara was able to lift a large amount of sand that completley covered over his village, and proceeded to move it until he could drop it safely. He lifted it in a very short amount of time. Toph, cannot float in teh air.. And her bending range is not infinite. He can float up, bend the sand, kill Toph. Toph is great and all but ATLA fans need to be realistic.

It's not like it stops trying to protect gaara just because she bends it. She has not a SINGLE Earthbending feat that matches up to Gaara's most powerful feat.

The sand itself isn't actually sentient or alive. It's possessed. It's animated. Toph bent a god. A mortal ghost isn't going to stop her. Any feat? Gaara's best feats are the meteor lift and the village covered in sand. That's city level max. Toph lifted the library. Let me give a clue as to how important that is. Threw library has everything ever written from the early avatars to Roku's time. Seeing in the avatar temple how thousands of eyes lit up, there have been thousands of avatars, and assuming an average of an 80 or life span for each, that's minimum 80,000 years of writing stored in the library. At the least, that's going to be the size of florida, and if I go higher, the united states. The library child easily have been country level and it has a flipping god pulling it onto the spirit realm. That tops everything Gaara has ever done put together. Yeah, sorry but Toph has him beat in feats.

When Gaara can control sand with his mind and Tooh needs to do actual movements- that's an issue. Gaara's sand is also infused with his own chakra. I doubt toph can control chakra. You're acting like she lifted it above her head lmao.
