You seem to have confused a bit from the end of the last episode. Baeber is what Rin called the blue dressed saber servant. The Red "saber" (archer) is just referred to as "actually satan" right now.

The Gae Bolg, Lancer's spear, is a cursed spear from Irish Mythology. It carries the cause and effect reversing ability of the idea that the spear has already pierced the heart when its name is called, meaning death for his opponents. It doesn't matter if he actually thrusts the spear when he calls the name, because the rewriting of causality already implies that he's already stabbed his opponent in the heart.

Cú Chulainn (Gaelic for Chulainns dog) is actually a fairly facinating tale from the mostly lost mythology of Irland. If you ever have some time off I would reccomend reading up on him a bit, or just listen to Miracle of Sounds song of the same name, it goes through the basics of his story and has the added bonus of beeing a real banger. Either way calling him Irish Heracles is not a bad equivalency, he was a real badass. Even in death, fear the fangs of the hound of Chulainn.

Well, to give a little context without spoiling some major stuff. Saber was summoned in the past by a different master and she experienced some really nasty time with him. So random moments when she gets triggered or mentions some out of nowhere remarks is because of the stuff she went through with her previous master. So yeah, lets just say that she may or may not have a bit of hard time adjusting to a new master and not expect them to do some rather heinous stuff that involves a lot of guns or explosives.

part of why baber is special is because shes the saber class. heroes and their classes are all subject to be more powerful depending on how well known, how prominent and well respect their legends are think tulpa logic but pulling from the collective unconsciousness of all humans on the planet. swords specifically have mythologized harder than spearmen, archers, wizards, ect of the 7 (at this time) classes of heroes they can be summoned into. many heroes can be summoned into multiple classes and the class they are summoned in exemplifies specific parts of their legends (for example lancer, Cú Chulainn who is analogous to Hercules but in irish mythology, is summoned as a caster in the fate global offensive movie scenario). the berserker class is the wild card as it strips away much personality and free will to increase combat potential. as for who saber is , her name has not yet been spoken just keep watching for clues

Fate is ... fun. Complicated when you get into it but fun. The basic info you need is that there are seven mages(masters), each with a single servant, fighting for an artifact called the holy grail. That is the basic premise. The abridged version does pull from a lot of Fate lore from other series. For example, Fergus was good friends with Cu (Lancer) and both were trained by an immortal spearwoman.

Cu Chulainn is a legendary spearman from Irish myth who was the son of the god Lugh. In Episode 0, "Actually Satan" refers to him as Irish Hercules, so that should give you a clue how tough he's supposed to be. In this series, his ultimate attack (his Noble Phantasm), Gae Bolg, is the name of his spear, which in his legemd was said to always deal a fatal blow. In this series, its effect allows him to rewrite causality so that the order of events is reversed. In essence, the "hit" happens before the actual "attack", meaning when he uses its full power, the attack will hit the opponent, and THEN the trajectory of the attack is decided. In that way, it's considered a "guaranteed kill" attack. He freaks out because his attack, a "guaranteed kill" attack, failed to hit a vital area and deal a mortal wound. Basically showing how busted Saber is as a Servant because she can avoid an unavoidable attack.

Fate/Zero is a prequel series to Fate/Stay Night and it's assorted AU. It takes place 10 years before Night with a different roster of masters, each summoning a servant. In Night's Holy Grail War six new servants were summoned, but also the same exact Saber as last time. She makes several references to Zero, such as bringing up guns and explosives. She had been summoned before by a man named Kiritsugu Emiya, known as the Mage Killer, who used guns, explosives, and all sorts of dirty tricks. He was very pragmatic and used his wife as a decoy master. He eventually used a command seal to force Saber to do something she didn't want to do, but also forced her opponent to kill himself mid battle by blackmailing his master to do so IIRC.

Lancer's spear, the Gae Bolg, holds the power reverse causality. Put simply it's already pierced the opponents heart the second it's name is called, the spear will then alter reality as needed in order to pierce the heart.

In terms of spin offs, there have been many. There was a prequel, three alternate continuities that I know of, something that might be a sequel but maybe not, a sequel to the prequel that I don't count as a prequel to the original because the story is focused on a character from the prequel, a comedy spin off which also pulls in characters from different works by the same creator, a cooking show that I just remembered I need to finish, several video games including one of the more infamous Gacha games and an upcoming one which is definitely not canon because the HGW didn't start happening till like a hundred and fifty years after, a four panel comic strip that's been going for a while, and this is all complicated by the fact that most stories have been adapted into multiple media so you often have to specify whether you're talking about a VN, LN, anime, or manga. And I probably missed something in there.

Ep. 2 is available now. I have the playlist saved and have rewatched the series more times than the original version 😅. Basics for the Holy Grail War: 1) Seven masters are chosen (usually mages, though sometimes not), who summon a Heroic spirit of a legendary figure who manifests with the attributes of their legend or mythology remembered by mankind. Sometimes the spirit is of a fictional origin, though it is supposed to be rare (which means in real life, Batman or Superman could be summoned.... fuck....). 2) Servants (the summoned spirit) are designated into a 7 class system. Their master generally addresses them by their class name (Archer, Saber, etc.) to hide the servant's identity. In the war, knowing who the spirit is give insight into their strength and weaknesses, so usually they keep it quiet. 3) A servant has a "limit break" style ability tied to their legends and/or weapon. This is their Noble Phantasm, and come in many flavors from bazooka to nuke (and beyond) in power. A lot of the show assumes the viewers have already seen some of the source material, so they can gloss over these details in a line or two. Hope you have a great time watching and hopefully this helps a little with some stuff you've seen so far.

Gae Bolg reverses cause and effect. It makes it go from the hit landed so he hit your heart to he hit your heart so his attack HAS to land even if it has to alter reality to get it done. That's why he was upset that she managed to block it. It technically shouldn't have been possible. Or something like that. Fate is confusing.

It can get confusing when two reality altering effects clash, and although a stat like luck doesn't seem to be a fair opponent to a cursed spear, if it gets high enough (and Saber's is quite high, not to mention her magic resistance as well) it does work miracles in Nasuverse.

Because she's the first girl you could ban... erm, sorry I meant "transfer mana" with in the visual novel. :P Oh god, I so hope they will eventually make an abridged of the Heaven's Feel movies, where Bubble Monkey will actually have some material of Sakura to work with. ^^ Then again... turning those movies into something funny is going to be quite the challenge. That poster Shirou used, wasn't just a paper poster, but something containing metal, that hurt quite a bit, when it's rolled up. And with Shirou's magic reinforcing it, it became as strong as steel. Just for some context on how hard Cu Culain/Lancer/the blue guy kicked Shirou. You did not forgot her name, because it wasn't mentioned yet. She goes under the synonym Saber, because that's her class and Rin - being rather enamoured with her - calls her Baeber. Her real name is... something I'm not going to spoil. ;) Nice how your mind went to Jeanne D'arc though, considering a joke that will come later. ^^ Also there was a really creepy guy in Fate/Zero, who chased after her and murdered a whole lot of children, because he mistook her for Jeanne D'arc... Speaking of which, most of Saber's inexplicable reactions, like the EMIYA! shout, the guns and explosives and the thing about attachments and cut off hands, goes back to what she went through and witnessed in Fate/Zero (which is the prequel to Fate/Stay Night). Usually Servants can not remember anything from other times they were summoned. This is due to regular servant actually being copies of ancient heroes, that the grail creates, who then cease to exist along with the memories they gathered while summoned, once the summoning ends, rather than being the actual heroes themselves. They have the memories of their lives, plus some useful extra info the grail pumps into their heads, like how to use modern vehicles and current languages. However Saber is not a regular servant. Usually people ask the planet for super-powers to do great deeds in their life and then pay with their souls in death, which turns them into heroic spirits. Saber however made the contract the other way around, first becoming a heroic spirit to obtain what she is looking for in this immortal state, which makes her something almost, but not quite like the other heroic spirits. When she is summoned, it is not a copy of her, but the actual her and thus she retains all the memories of previous summonings. This is also why she can not go into spirit form, the invisible and semi-tangible? state that Lancer went into for a brief moment, before stabbing Shirou in the heart.

You've almost certainly heard this by now, but Gae Bolg reverses the playing order of cause and effect. It determines that the attack will pierce the heart of the target and figures out how later, which is why saber's d20 was bullshit

Lancer's Noble Phantasm, Gae Bolg, is a Spear that "always pieces the heart". To achieve this, it swaps Cause and Effect. Normally, the Cause is "Stabbed at with a Spear" and the Effect is "The Heart is Stabbed" But, when Lancer uses his Noble Phantasm, those two events are reverse so that "The Heart is Stabbed" becomes the Cause, and "Stabbed at with a Spear" becomes the Effect. Basically, Lancer doesn't even have to attack with Gae Bolg when he uses this ability of it, because technically his opponent SHOULD already be dead as soon as he actually uses it, and they just don't know it yet. So yeah, Saber is kinda crazy to be able to survive an attack that, for all intents and purposes, SHOULD be a guaranteed kill.

to help you understand : In Fate/UBW Mages summon servants to fight in the Holy Grail War (the Murder Death Kill) those servant are what is called heroic spirits, basically they are beings that have their own legends based around them, think hercules or arthur for exemple Those servants are generally classified under 7 "classes" : Saber, Archer, Lancer, Caster, Rider, Berserker and Assassin based on their legends Cu Culainn is, as stated, a lancer because as his legend dictates he is really good with a spear. Each of those servants possess what is called a Noble Phantasm, those Noble Phantasm are kind of super moves that are assossiated with the legend of the servant. The part where you were asking if he was manipulating time was the time where Lancer used his Noble Phantasm : Gae Bolg To explain Gae Bolg is a spear that had it's own legend of never missing it's opponent heart and the injuries it provoked could never be healed. This was reflected in the shown by having it rewrite causality (the stopping time part) I hope this helped to understand the show a little better without spoiling it (at least i think)

So, Cu Chulainn's Gae Bolg (the red spear) is legendary from Irish mythology. In Cu's legend, his cursed spear Gae Bolg will always kill its opponents by piercing their hearts. However, in Fate magic, Luck is involved. Some people are luckier than others, for various reasons. Saber here is an extremely famous and powerful mythological figure, someone who is fated for victory, so she has fairly high luck. Cu Chulainn on the other hand is one of MANY Irish heroes who have extremely tragic, fated-for-a-horrible-death life stories, so his luck is the minimum value you can normally have. Because of this difference, Saber was able to dodge Lancer's undodgeable attack, a spear so undodgeable that it literally rewrites reality to make it hit. With that said. Saber actually WAS stabbed through the chest here. It missed her heart, but still did a lot of damage. This doessn't come out as much in the abridged because they move so much more quickly, but in the original Saber is still dealing with that damage for about a fourth of the entire story. However, Servants don't have normal bodies. Even when they take damage like that, they usually appear to heal pretty quickly because they're made out of magic. But it DOES give them the same physical pain, and since they are made out of magic they will still die from too much damage. Despite taking a spear through the chest, Saber was still perfectly capable of jumping over that wall and presenting just as much of a threat to Archer as she did to Lancer. Something that needs to be understood in this setting: Servants are gods of combat. Better than the 1%. Even the weakest Servant can kill a million regular humans if they need to, ignoring the rare exceptions that didn't show up until spin-off works.

So, fun fact about Shirou. He actually doesn't know how to do magic properly. Usually, people just use their natural Magic Circuits, those green lines that appear on people's body, to perform Magecraft. Shirou however, never really learned how to properly use them, or he did but misunderstood. Basically, instead of using his natural circuits, he "makes new circuits" in otder to perform Magecraft. How does he do that? BY DESTROYING HIS NERVES AND TURNING THEM INTO MAKESHIFT CIRCUITS. It's never pointed out how painful this is within the anime, but in the visual novel we learn that every time he does this it feels like he's stabbing a hot iron rod into his spine. And Shirou has been doing his "training" every day... FOR A DECADE. Aka normally, he throws the spear and he hits your heart, but when using Gae Bolg he Hits your heart, and then throws the spear. It's a 100% guaranteed killing blow. 2:10 - A little bit of background information I don't call it a spoiler because it never actually get adresded in the original UBW-ANIME and the Abridged only hints at it (at least till Episode 10 - I dont know about the Episodes still in the making). I already knew this Info because I watched the Anime "Fate zero" first. Its a Prequel to Fate Stay Night/UBW/Heavens Feel. And I was pretty angry when I saw that They never adress this MAJOR Plottpoint in the UBW-Anime: Sakura is Rins little Sister. There Father gave Sakura away to another mage-Family. Because only one Child can inherit Family Magic And the first Thing this Family did was throwing little Sakura into a Basement filled with magical carnivorous insects. If you wonder why Rin and Sakura act like they baerly know each other... Your guess is as good as mine.

That was one of my main issues with Fate Stay Night and why i don't rate it anywhere near as highly as Fate Zero. They ignore too much major shit that should have carried over from Fate Zero. I watched Fate Zero first, then watched the 2006 Fate Stay Night afterwards and didn't like it for mostly that reason. But then i found out that Fate Stay Night in terms of when it was created in the real world was made first that then the prequel was made afterwards so i forgave it to an extent for not tying into past events/details properly, because the fault would be on Fate Zero in that case. But then when UBW was announced i was excited to to see a more well connected sequel but it also left me disappointed in that regard. Especially Illya...the thing i wanted to see most was Shiro and Illya finding out their connection but it's literally NEVER addressed
