And this is only accounting for what Jimmy experienced on the first four days. Lord knows what all the other kids had to go through. To put something in perspective, one of the prizes the kids were able to win was mail from their families... on episode 10, which took place around day 29-31. The producers were hoarding a month's worth of mail for these kids for them to win the right to read them, and of course it was offered up as a choice between that or having ponies. And that's for the things they were able to win. If even one team failed to complete the challenges no one in the entire town won anything (Which happened three times), one of the prizes they were unable to win was a set of comfy beds. This show was messed up.

The insanity of that. "Okay children, you have to work together and bring this town back to life. Scratch that, you have to compete as teams arranged literally by class. Oh, but you still have to work together or everyone fails." This is probably why the oldest was 14. If the age range was more 12 to 16 or something, they might have gotten smart and ditched the whole class-based society bull the show was trying to pull on them, especially after learning that one team's loss works against them all. Viva la Resistance!

The drama surrounding this show is super messed up when you think about it, but when you're watching it you can't help but laugh at situations (and editing). I'd recommend the 2014 Reddit AMA thread by Michael, a contestant who was there until the end. As well as the other KZbin interviews, Googling the actual lawsuits, and of course, watching the show. Suing the producers and Network (CBS) is hard because the parents had to sign a liability waiver-this states that the parents understand the risk and if their children got injured, poisoned, or died, then the Network (CBS) and producers are not legally responsible whatsoever. Luckily the network violated several State child labor laws and federal child labor laws, as well as safety guidelines, so it weakens the strength of that liability waiver.
