OK fans, this is what is referred to as vocal genius, if you want an accurate example of that concept. Narada Michael Walden one of the top 10 music producers of all time who produced a number of her #1 songs from her first 3 or 4 albums, said in his book on his collaboration with her that he has never experience anyone with her vocal genius!! Remember, he produced for some of the best singers. including Aretha Franklin!! She was also blessed with exceptional controlled breathing which how's in tandem with her vocal genius.Is it any wonder she is the most gifted and talented artist that ever lived?!!

Not to discredit your opinion as I love Whitney, but it must be noted that he did not work with Aretha in her vocal prime. Aretha's voice in the mid 80s was quite a step down from what it once was even though she was still an incredible vocalist. George Michael worked with her in 1987 and declared that she was the only one he wanted to work with because she was the best in the business. I'm paraphrasing but the point is we can all find opinion to back up our own. Aretha and Whitney at their very best were the standard of greatness for their generation.
