The problem is Obelisk was the only card out the releases that actually semi functioned as he did in the Manga / anime. Slifer's effect was neutered into recquiring a face-up / attack position target with less than 2k attack / more than 0 atk (the biggest element of BS), and because its effects so damn slow, it couldn't resolve on the first (and only) target in chain-summoning scenarios. For Slifer to be functional in modern Yugioh, it would need to be a quick effect with target protection. Ra... my boy Ra was saddled with 2 effects that prevent the other effect from resolving, with no on tribute atk gains and a restriction on special summons. The card was nerfed into the ground on release to the point it was unplayable to this day. All its support cards are patch notes.dek.

UNBOUND Ra and Slifer can set Continuous Spells and Traps Respectively to get out Hamon or Uria, while Obelisk can get its Fiend Tokens ready for Raviel.

Besides, I have some further fine tunings in mind for these I’m cooking behind the scenes. Trying to improve all the effects while making them less wordy.

Well the fact that they couldn't put all their effects on the cards wasn't the REAL reason why they were bad. Just putting unaffected by other card effects, which all of them did have in anime, would suffice for many years in yugioh meta. Now, of those they did choose, they often chose the nerfed versions of their effects, which is kinda whack.

Breaking Ruin god in Tearlament match ups was hilarious. Tear rarely had cards that could interact with a tribute summoned Obelisk the Tormentor, because, all their target, and if you Obelisk + one monster (or +2) could resolve breaking ruin god, banish their graveyard, and often kill the deck on the spot. Either you did 8k burn damage to them, or they lost the entire resource pool.

So now if you want them to be devine attribute and devine ebast type you have to play by playground rules and pretend that they are.

I have a combo that guarentees u to summon the god cards, as u know ttt both of them activate if ur opponents monster activates its effect, use the diamond warrior cards to special one to ur opponents side, draw 2 discard 1 and then u activate ttt and depending on ur hand can add ttt, slifer trap, foolish, or any other card thatll help ur turn, with my currrent god deck, I always get the gods on field, and even against tenpai, ra cont spell stops them from attacking more than once so u have time to counter

God cards not being godly in the game is genuinely sad. Part of the fun of the game was feeling like yugi and pulling some sick plays and using unique bad ass monsters. Now everything is won by the the power of the meta and credit cards.

Funny thing about the God Cards is, in the World Championship games, they all have the targeting protection, and Ra has the atk gain of its tributes built in, with the life point paying effects only being usable if it's special summoned. I think they also have uninterruptible summons, so no Solemn Judgement or BTH

Ra came out in 2011 btw, not 2012. The first printings were the alt art JUMP promos and those came out basically in successive years, Obelisk 2010, Ra 2011, Slifer 2012. The first “worldwide” release for the Gods was in a Battle Pack in late 2012, but the original legal prints for the TCG were the Shonen Jump Magazine Promos.

I always thought it was criminal how they made Ra basically unplayable, if they at least had the original effect that Ra got its baseline stats from the tributed cards, the combined ATK and DEF, it might have been playable. It's also criminal the cards weren't released in the TCG at the same time, and that they were released so late into the serie's life.

Idea for a Tribute/Material support monster that’s designed to help get out bigger monsters by making itself as efficient a Tribute/Material as possible. _Herald of True Divinity_ (LIGHT) Level 1 Psychic/Flip/Tuner/Effect _FLIP: Add 1 Monster to your hand (from your Deck, GY or Banishment) that can be Tribute Summoned._ _If this card you control is used as Tribute or Material, you can treat it as a non-Tuner. This card can be treated as 2 or 3 Tributes for the Summon/Set of a Monster. This card’s Type and Attribute cannot be changed by the effects of other cards. Once per turn (Quick Effect), you can Reveal 1 Level 5 or Higher Monster in your hand; Change this card’s Original Type and/or Attribute. @ Well the idea was that there are, as of writing, 18 different support cards for Flip Monsters (19 if you include the illegal “Masahiro the Dark Clown”), alongside the 135 support cards for Tuner Monsters. So my ploy was to try and maximize the amount of ways you could support this card to have it do whatever you need it to. It’s like the side soup or salad you get when you go to a resturant for a meal.

Would you be interested in making a video on how to build a reasonable format of "classic" Yu-Gi-Oh? The kind where regular trap cards are viable/useful. If i remember right, although i did not exhaustively search, july 31 2008 was when the 5D structure deck released which brought about synchros. So in theory a format of only cards released before then, would be the place to start. Followed by stuff like allowing any effectless monsters after that date. The fact that modern Yu-Gi-Oh duels are resolved in literally one or two turns is asinine and absurd and shows the hideously bad design of this game. But I played it as a kid along with everyone else and so im looking for ways to play this game again that dont make me want to isekai myself.

I don't undertake why yugioh doesn't create term words to put on the cards instead of having to write the whole thing out. Like Magic the gathering does. A card will say, for example, LIFELINK and HASTE. The player knows that it has no summoning sickness, and you gain HP when you attack with it. 2 words to explain 2 sentences. Why doesn't yugioh do this !?!?
