What Were All The Tier 0 Decks In YGO's History?

In order to be a tier 0 deck, a deck has to have had at least 65% of top spots at a sanctioned event.
-In 2004 Chaos emperor dragon came out, allowing yata lock decks that would hand rip and stop your opponent from playing. It was so bad they had to ban cards for the first time.
-In 2008 Dark Armed Dragon came out, creating Tele-DaD synchro decks that ravaged the meta for years.
-In 2013 we had Dragon Rulers and Spellbooks, 2 decks that came out at the same time which were so powerful they required multiple hits to keep them in check, with some of their cards only coming off the ban list as recent as 2022.
-In 2015 we had Nekroz at the beginning of the year, and PePe towards the end, both only being tier 0 for a very short time.
-In 2017 we had 2 more with Zoodiacs at the start of the year, and SPYRAL's towards the end after the release of SPYRAL Double Helix. With Zoodiacs going on to be one of the most successful archetypes in the games history.
-Then in 2022 we had 2 more again, with Spright at the start of the year, but only in the OCG, and Izshizu Tear towards the end.

I went to a YCS when Zoodiac was at it’s peak. There were signs posted that essentially told players not to be angry if they only faced other Zoo players. I was running Magespecters and after losing immediately to two Zoo decks, I had a really fun time at the “non Zoo” table with everyone who played fun and fair decks.

To clarify what exactly is a tier 0 format, the definition of tier 0 is that you need 65% or more top seats at a major event. Why? Anyone can bring anything to a YCS but top cut means the decks are succeeding and 65% being roughly 2/3 of decks being played. That means on average u r TWICE as likely to play against that deck compared to EVERY other deck in that format COMBINED. In MD. Tearlament is the one tier 0 deck at this moment in the past. Kashtira although it did not become tier 0 in TCG and OCG. This card have pottential tier 0 in MD, because floodgate is very problematic in BO1, plus level 7 get humongous support in MD, since In MD, have armed dragon and also pankratops at 3, your only need shangri-ira, ogre, unicorn and fenrir to make Kashtira deck deadly with aid some powerful engine that a lot of level 7, like armed dragon and dinosour deck.

However, I was talking in a general sense and again it kinda proves my point here that you complain immediately and start being defensive. Most meta's have perfectly fine and cheap rogue contenders or strategies that don't rely on cheap floodgate esque wincons/ you have Floowandereeze. They won't be optimal and the last year has had some rough metas and staple releases for budget players but there is definitely a way. The point I was trying to make was that in my experience, casual players adopt a mindset of: "We should play the game unga bunga style like back in the days and people should adjust to the way I want to play or I'll cry about it" whereas meta players tend to focus more on deck optimizations, finding the right tech cards to increase odds of winning certain matchups, and have more nuanced ideas about fixing the formats.

I just miss my dragon rulers......... Never cared about meta decks, just loved the cards. They are unplayable against basically any recent modern deck even at full power sadly. I will always love them

80 percent is tier 0, I would argue 90% is a better argument I know the community tries to push 65%, but most top decks are 50-60 percent. The extra 5% isn't enough in my book to make something tier 0. Now I won't say it isn't getting close, nor am I saying 65% is healthy. However, you typically get 1 other deck eating up most the last 35%. Tier 0 is there is literally nothing else to play and be competitive, and unless the counter to the meta is still unable to get above 15% there is still something else to play. With that said a format with 1 viable deck with the occasional counter deck is not a fun format to most folks. Mirrors can be fun, but it is not fun to be playing the same match for 3-6 months

Why does tier 0 need to be 65% ? Isn't being 50%+1 already mean that the majority of decks are playing that particular archetype?

A simple majority of all players using the same deck at regionals and YCSs doesn't indicate that deck's power level, but rather it's popularity. It's the top spots at those tournaments that count since you have to win enough at those Swiss rounds to make it to those top spots, and a simple majority isn't enough for tier-0.

For me any kind of tier 0 sucks in yugioh, like currently salamangreats in duel links. Even though I tend to win against them it still feels like a waste of time. It's just not fun to duel against the same deck repeatedly

I haven't played in years, but that banlist is looking like a bible. At some point wouldn't it be easier to take a bunch of cards off and let the marketplace figure things out before sorting out any excessive issues?

The problem is that some cards are banned exclusively because of interactions with currently unbanned cards. Ronintoadin is a good example, its why we were able to take Substitoad off the list because they both cant be legal at the same time. Its why i want Ratpier banned, we could move Drident and Barrage back to 1 or maybe even 2 in Barrage's case.
