I once found a full sovereign while detecting (1889). I then went over the area for the next hour and a half, but no others. You never forget your first gold find, you are dead right.

Hi Michael, wow stunning, was that a Jubilee head Sovereign? You are right, there's nothing quite like it, finding gold coins is a special moment. I was lucky enough to find an Edward VII Sovereign on Sunday just gone, same area as the other recent gold coins I've found. Really having a rather unbelievably year, 3 gold coins so far in 2023!!

Gaz, i really love your videos which are beautifully made, edited and the music is spot on... and what is amazing is that instead of just pulling the gold coins out, you take time to savour the moment... and have the prescence of mind to record the event... I found a gold ring last year but i didnt know it was a gold ring until it came out of the clod, it was a 14 on the Nox which is always a ring pull but on this occasion it wasnt.. I just fell back and stared then started laughing....and the bronze age axe head that i found was a 30+ on the Nox which is usually a BOAT (bit off a tractor) but i had only been detecting for about a month and i was digging everything... I think maybe now i`m a bit too choosy with what i decide needs to be dug... I also like how you marvel at the imprint from the coin, its so exciting seeing the imprint before the coin. I think what is also exciting is when i check the hole and get another signal..!! Always check your hole...Like you i`ve dug ringpulls, cans, lead, scrap iron, mobile phones, lighters, vapes, buttons, toy guns and cars, badges, copper pipe, bullets, all modern coins and victorian silver but the excitement is still there.. i also love being out on my own but occasionally with a detector colleague. I`ve just read the book " Gone Fishing" where Paul Whithouse and Bob Mortimer both agree that you dont have to have caught anything to have had a great day out, its the day out itself that makes it worthwhile, finding anything is a bonus.. Keep posting, theres gold in them there hills...:)

Hi mate, love this comment, apologies for the slow reply, slowly but surely working my way through replying to everyone :) Thank you for your kind words, I work very hard on the content I upload and spend many hours capturing my days and editing the videos. So its nice for me to receive such comments. Sounds like you are doing very well, almost 10 years in this hobby and I still wait for my 1st gold ring.. But its out there, I know it is!! Sounds like a good book, never had time for reading books, maybe one day I will sit down with a glass of beer and read a book. Thanks again for this awesome comment and for your support. G

Hey there Del, cheers mate and thanks for the wonderful comments. I always maintain what I do is very very basic and very very amateur, but I try to do it in my style and I try to do it different from other metal detecting channels. As I only had 3 hours to detect as kid was at my mum's, this was the closest permission. I thought I could do a short hunt video with a look back at my 2 best finds here. It worked out really well and I was super happy with the result. Although I'm yet to watch the completed video. Thanks as always for your kind words. Catch ya later dude. Gareth

To me, that is the greatest feeling in the world, giving something I cherish to family members! That oval lead piece may be from a chandelier or a lamp. (?) Just a guess. Amazing place buddy. The lead teardrop find with the iron loop at the top could be an old fishing weight. Someone was probably practicing their casting back in the day, or maybe some sort of loom weight. Nice you ended with a half silver. Thanks for taking us along as usual, with the old memories thrown in, and what great memories they are, enjoyed. Great permission. All the best bud, HH and keep those finds coming.

Hi mate, yes the FOB seal is the 2nd best thing I have ever found with a metal detector. I have not seen very many others found in the UK metal detecting, so it is a rare and unique find, there may not be one like it anywhere in the world. One of my most precious finds. Thanks so much for watching this video and leaving me a comment. Gareth

The FOB seal is the 2nd best thing I've ever found with a metal detector. Thanks very much for watching and I hope to catch you on the next episode. Gareth

Hello there, thanks very much for the really kind words. Like anything, metal detecting is a hobby that requires lots of work, lots of time and lots of effort to master. Once you have learnt the machine you use and understand what it tells you AND once you have got some great permissions that are productive and clean, then the hobby really becomes something else. Thanks for taking the time to watch this video, for leaving a comment and I wish you luck on your future metal detecting hunts. Gareth

Hello there Ruth, where I live and detect in Derbyshire, England is very hilly, the fields are deep layers of earth on top of clay in most places. Very rarely do I encounter bedrock when I'm metal detecting. This is why its very hard for me to find the really old Roman and Saxon things, they are simply too deep in the earth. Thanks so much for taking time out your day to watch this video, I really hope to see you again on one of my many other metal detecting adventures. Gareth

That place has giving you some awesome treasures and equally awesome memories for sure. The seal matrix is one of my favorite finds that I’ve watched you dig for sure. I mean the gold coins and the silver they’re all special I get that, but that seal….wow! I’ve said before that there is a spectrum with metal detecting. There is the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. The feeling that you had when you dug the gold coin and the seal matrix we’re at the top of that spectrum and the people who lost those… well their feelings were at the very bottom of that spectrum if you get what I mean. The feelings that you get when you unearth something so special is equal only to the sadness that the person that lost it felt. I can only imagine the people or perhaps it was the same person that lost those had they realized it at the time spent a lot of time on their hands and knees, crawling around in the tall grass! Lol Probably thinking, I sure wish someone would come up with a machine to find lost objects! Then you step into the picture over 200 years later with that very machine they were wishing they had that day. Lol. Thanks for another video, as always, enjoy watching.~Paul

Hi Paul, I totally love this comment and completely agree with you, must have been heart breaking to lose something so valuable and special. And like you say the FOB seal is one of the most stunning things I have ever found with a metal detector. I imagine who lost them would have been incredibly upset, but this person was also a very rich man, so perhaps not that bothered, bet he had many more in the mansion. The the thrills and spills of history and metal detecting combined. Amazing. Thanks again. G

@@TheDukesOfDerbyshire I had a cracking day last Sunday, 2 beautiful hammereds, one a cut half William the Lion and a perfect Henry V. Last Thursday I had a near perfect Elizabeth 1, a part Saxon brooch and some beautiful tiny Saxon buckles. Yesterday I’d rather forget about! My two pals had between them, a gold posy ring, 2 fibulas, 5 hammered, 2 silver milled and a silver Roman denarius. I had a cut quarter…🙈
