I suggest to add Fiendish Foes, it's a tiny module ( around 10 pages ) which adds tables with harder monsters for low level heroes. It's perfect for a starter pack and it's super cheap.

Agree. I just don't have the book so I didn't show it. :)

Love your reviews! Also love that little piece of music at the beginning! Me and my two boys love FAD, my one gripe of mine is that it could do with more visual aids supplements, e.g monster cards, iten cards, decent character class cards. Still a good, fun, simple game. Lots of porential for development to it. Please keep up your excellent reviews. I find them very informative and actually very relaxing to watch. All the best from Lancashire, England. 👍

I've seen and heard coverage on 4AD before, but I've always felt that it looks like too much effort with little in the way of reward. Your series has brought me around and now I impatiently wait for 4AD's 2nd edition release. Definitely looking forward to it's release and more coverage from you on 4AD! Keep up the good work my man!

The core book and some of the expansions are easy on the wallet. I would say don't wait as it is thought to be Christmas 2021 when 2nd edition will be released. We are looking forward to it but it will still be the game we play now. Join the Facebook group as they are a fab group with a wealth of knowledge.

I just wanted to say I am so glad I found your channel a couple of months ago. I have watched several of your videos and you have introduced me to a ton of games that I really want to get and play. This series is on my list. I am waiting for the updated version though. And I just ordered Quest for the Lost Pixel. Thank you so much for a the hard work you put into your videos! The information you provided and detailed breakdowns of the games you show are a wonderful resource. I am looking forward to watching more of the content you make growing in this hobby that I no longer feel alone in. One quick question. I was wondering where you found the card holder you use to short and hold the many different decks of cards? I would love to get one that has The Dungeon Dive on it if you have a store. Thanks again for sharing your passion with us!

Thanks for watching and enjoying the channel! The card holder is from Amazon, and it's called the Hold-It Card Organizer. :)

Hello sir, Very nice review. I would like to jump to the game and already read a lot about it. But I have one fear. Is the game with rules as written (no house rules) challenging enough? I read it is way too easy. And if you could choose D100 dungeon or 4AD which one would be way to go? I know that answer is get both :D but my collection of games is already huge ... so I would like to add only one for now.

I think the base game can get easy quickly, but it also depends on how lucky you are with dice rolls.
@TheDungeonDive
@TheDungeonDive 3 жыл бұрын
I don’t think you can go wrong with either this or D100, but I would recommend getting expansions for each. Both of the base books are limited, and both games get better with more stuff.

Thank you fory our work. I have a general question about this type of game play using books with lots of book keeping and following the adventure with pen and paper. Why would this be better or why would someone choose this type of play as opposed to a board game with miniatures and beautiful art and cards etc?
@davidagornall

Very few game systems achieve a satisfying solo experience. 4AD does this very well. You write your own story as opposed to playing a game. So much material to work through. I have Sword and Sorcery a fantastic game but the set up is massive and the fiddly . You sort of become disengaged. You could sit down with a few friends and within 10 mins be playing and learning as you went along. You can get card adventures for the game many play with miniatures and dungeon tiles also.

@@davidagornall I think there are tons of games that achieve a great solo experience. This is a novelty (one that I love for what it is), the amount of book keeping these games have makes em cool but pointless when a computer can do that for you. IMO somwehere there is a point where keeping it analogic makes no sense.

They scratch different itches. Games like this make me feel like I’m playing some kind of D&D throwback from the 80s. They’re also simple, and don’t require a lot of set up, table space, clean up, etc. they’re very easy to set up and play.

@@Luchiop I just respectfully see it differently. To me as computer games became better in terms of graphics I just became less immersed. I guess I just like black and white text and pen drawing. Yes there are lots of solo games but it can for me become such an exercise in management.

@@davidagornall i agree graphics don't mean immersion, I even think sound is more important.
