This is Peter Kay ... he rose to fame through an excellent British TV show called "Phoenix NIghts" - where he plays a working class nightclub owner. The style of the show was almost like Spinal Tap for working-class nightclubs! A pseudo-documentary. He's brilliant - both in the show, and on the stage.

From what I've witnessed they seem to get most of the humour in our comedies, except where we use different words, and they are usually pretty blown away. From my experience what they don't tend to get is our banter, but we can be pretty brutal in that area, they can be offended by things we think nothing of because they just don't realise we're only having a laugh!

A stupid internet myth. This was filmed at the 02, Jackson was due to play there on july 13th 2009, Kay played the venue for 15 nights starting on 7th Nov 2010, 16 months after Jacksons death

In short, he was referencing that Jackson WOULD have appeared in 2009 if not for his death. Observational comedy has been booming here in the last 20-30 years and he's one of the best at it. His "Live at the Bolton Albert Halls" video is timeless. Michael Mcintyre's standups are also top notch (world's highest grossing stand-up comedian 2012) and worth checking out. If you don't mind borderline insulting/disgusting then try a little Jimmy Carr or Frankie Boyle. Whatever you watch, keep having fun!

I'm not sure Americans will get all of Peters cultural comedy ? Some like the Lyrics above are universal , but Peter when he talks about his mother, shopping in the supermarket ,UK adverts /TV maybe harder for them to appreciate I think and i watch a lot of these reaction vids and some do get obscure British references others have not got a clue whats going on....which can be funny in itself to watch ...lol....But I'm glad you enjoyed this one .

Peter Kay is from my home town I do see him every now and again and he's lost quite a lot of weight it seems since we last saw him publicly. I recommend watching Peter Kay Live at Bolton Albert Hall from 2003, it shows back then how funny he was in his prime I watch it all the time with my kids.

A bit of trivia on the language barrier: In Peter's Ethiopian joke, "pork pie" sounds more like "poke pie" to Americans, which is why our reactors often appear to be struggling with what Peter Kay is saying and why it is funny. One other thing: American reactors don't necessarily know what a vicar is, which is why "staple the vicar" joke isn't always as successful as it should be. I lived for a few years across the Pond, which helps.

I first saw Peter Kay as an unknown doing tv for a motorway services related comedy show and was hooked. Next saw him at a small comedy club on Bold Street Liverpool, jus before he became massive. The rest is history. A true UK comedy genius.

This is based on McGurkin effect, where visual image can be used to change how we interpret what we just heard. This is used in movies constantly, for ex snapping bones in action movie can be someone snapping a bunch of celery. You can be offered the same sound twice in a row but if it is accompanied with different visuals, you hear different things.. yet you can detect it was the same sound.
