One of our favorite picture book is "Brother Hugo and the Bear". It is about a monk who is chased by a bear who likes to eat manuscripts. It taught in a hilarious way how books had to be made by hand before Gutenberg's press!

It's so funny that your channel is going back to CM type method and we have done Ambleside online for so many years, but this is the first year we are moving away from it. We are still a bit more classical and doing lots of reading, but still more structured. I love loads of books and thriftbooks is the best! Oh, if you need to get Our Island Story, its fantastic, too! There is a great documentary that we found on PBS where modern day men in the 90's followed the trail of Marco Polo. It was intriguing!!

The chicken sounds & log cabin background are a delight! This is my family's 6th year on the homeschool journey. My natural teaching approach is Charlotte Mason so I've applied many of her concepts the past few years. This is the first year though that I've really dived into applying CM across the board. "Simply Charolette Mason" has plans that have been a huge help in planning for the multiple levels my kiddos are at.

Check out the Museum of the Bible curriculum for your next year high schooler. I have it in my faves for 2 years out for bible study... when my 7th grader gets to 9th... lol. I use all your PDFs to keep me organized and I'm ready to go. My sister came over and was so surprised at them (and me) that she wants to homeschool her kids when she has them... lol.

We did Story of the World middle Ages last year and it has some Great Stories and info on the Silk Road. Highly recommend Story of the World, it also teaches about all different cultures and beliefs very good. For China, my son read Where the Mountain Meets the Moon. Very cool book we both really enjoyed it had action and adventure, good for 5th grade + in my opinion. 💕

We're reading The Story of King Arthur and His Knights this year. I have younger kids (7 and 4) so we will have the Usborne Flap Book See Inside Castles. Story of the World is our spine. There are so many good books for this time period! But my daughter is still learning to read and I don't want to overwhelm myself with readalouds 🙈

Have you checked out Map Trek? I think it would be a great resource. There is a book and a student one that has the blank maps. And you could utilize them for all the different History subjects you are going through. I am going to be utilizing it myself this year.

Crispin by Avi is FANTASTIC for this time period. There's actually a trilogy but I haven't read the other two. I do have the book, "The King's Fifth" on my TBR stack. The kids were too young for it when we did our unit before, but they may like it when we go through that time period again - I just haven't actually read it yet, but you could check it out.

I have a 9, 6 and 4 year old and we are finishing up ancient history and will begin Middle Ages in January. I’ve transitioned to a Christian classical mindset. Not trivium based but truly just wanting my children to be good humans and wise in virtue so that leaves me somewhere between Charlotte mason habits and arts with an emphasis on exposure to great books, children classics and Latin haha. We free range a lot but We joined a CM fine arts co-op and at home we are starting Shakespeare for children, The Ology, pilgrims progress the poetic retelling by Rousseaux Brasseur and focusing on a lot of cultural books and read alouds like Mary poppins, Matilda, Charlie and the chocolate factory, Mary osbornes version of the odyssey and my 9 year old will be reading a lot of biographies this year. He loves non fiction books and we haven’t touched on American history yet so he was requesting some books on presidents. We use claritas for memory work that sort of leads as our spine for learning more. It’s so fun to change things up according to the atmosphere of home and season and that every home is unique. I’ll be using the library for more history specific topics and picture books. Thank you for sharing and it’s good to see you back!
