Whatever a ticket cost, it would have been unthinkable and unaffordable for us. My father made fifty bucks a week as a sweatshop tailor on Spadina Avenue (garment center), -seasonal piecework. I was in the audience when his first film, Love Me Tender played at the Beaver Theatre, -admission fifteen cents. When Elvis appeared on-screen, the whole audience gasped audibly. Let's face it, Elvis was probably the best looking male singer of the 20th century (and 21st). Yes, he had a great voice and charisma by the ton. However, the way he could "work" a song was magic. Loved and cherished forever! And what an adorable ham he was! So grateful to have grown up in that era. I remember being 10 years old and seeing him for the first time on the Ed Sullivan Show. I had to go to a friend’s house to watch because we didn’t have a TV yet. What a memory. Thank you for blessing our lives, Elvis!

Its just heart breaking to lose him at such a young age. I wish he had taken better care of himself. Not just for us, but for his little girl he left behind! What a gem of a talent he was. There will never be another Elvis. God only gave us one and we miss him terribly and always will!😘

Yes-- but to be fair, he was never really in good health. Hard to believe when you see him performing, but...there was family history of heart, liver and kidney problems--and early death. He had emphysema, diabetes and heart problems among other things. Not to make excuses for his drug use, but there was a reason for it: he was usually in a lot of pain.

So young, so nervous and so darn good. His humour is just infectious and that michevious tongue in cheek grin just so endearing. He loved working with the Jordanairres, I remember reading that he said to them he would be nothing without them, he was upset when they could no longer work with him on Vegas shows and tours . Elvis always picked the best backing singers, he always showed them great respect and allowed them to shine also.

His voice was so pure and beautiful, take away the music and Jordanaires, it would still sound amazing. Not many can say that.
