It’s crazy to think this was considered to be super “edgy” back in the day. The concept of convicts being the main focus/protagonists and Elvis’s dances like moving his hips was met with controversy. But it didn’t matter, because just like a lot of his music, the song was a big success and overshadowed the controversy. The “edginess” was one of the main reasons why he was so popular. Jailhouse Rock stayed at number 1 on the US Billboard for seven straight weeks!!! Elvis was INSANELY ahead of his time, and changed popular culture forever! His influence still lives on even in 2024 :D

Es que la sociedad estadounidense era muy conservadora; en algunos Estados consideraban una inmoralidad moverse como lo hacía Elvis, pero debes tener en cuenta que de esto hace 65 años. A partir de allí, nada volvería a ser igual.

Yep, I remember bad guys or criminals were practically not allowed to "win" in mainstream American films. Hence why in the original Ocean's Eleven, they don't get any of the money.
@Julia-nl3gq
@Julia-nl3gq 2 жыл бұрын
I think, though, that we should still be living in a time where this is considered edgy. That's healthy. I mean, look what we have now - every single popular singer is a virtually naked, and completely talentless. They sell their 'music' based on how small of a bikini or whatever they're wearing. It's pathetic.

I was born in 1954 and started to be aware of popular music through my grandmother. This sound, even at the age of 4 or 5 years of age, captured my imagination. Fun fact In this movie scene Elvis was supposed to do a Broadway type of chorégraphed dancing but he didn't feel comfortable with it. He asked to dance in his own way . The chorégrapher then put a few of his songs in rehearsal and asked him to dance the way he likes. After 3 songs he had the perfect choreography. So you could say that elvis pretty much made that whole dance routine himself et

The warden threw a party in the county jail. The prison band was there and they began to wail. The band was jumpin' and the joint began to swing. You should've heard those knocked out jailbirds sing. Let's rock, everybody, let's rock. Everybody in the whole cell block Was dancin' to the Jailhouse Rock. Spider Murphy played the tenor saxophone, Little Joe was blowin' on the slide trombone. The drummer boy from Illinois went crash, boom, bang, The whole rhythm section was the Purple Gang. Let's rock, everybody, let's rock. Everybody in the whole cell block Was dancin' to the Jailhouse Rock. Number forty-seven said to number three: "You're the cutest jailbird I ever did see. I sure would be delighted with your company, Come on and do the Jailhouse Rock with me." Let's rock, everybody, let's rock. Everybody in the whole cell block Was dancin' to the Jailhouse Rock. The sad sack was a sittin' on a block of stone Way over in the corner weepin' all alone. The warden said, "Hey, buddy, don't you be no square. If you can't find a partner use a wooden chair." Let's rock, everybody, let's rock. Everybody in the whole cell block Was dancin' to the Jailhouse Rock. Shifty Henry said to Bugs, "For Heaven's sake, No one's lookin', now's our chance to make a break." Bugsy turned to Shifty and he said, "Nix nix, I wanna stick around a while and get my kicks." Let's rock, everybody, let's rock. Everybody in the whole cell block Was dancin' to the Jailhouse Rock.
