It’s crazy to think this was considered to be super “edgy” back in the day. The concept of convicts being the main focus/protagonists and Elvis’s dances like moving his hips was met with controversy. But it didn’t matter, because just like a lot of his music, the song was a big success and overshadowed the controversy. The “edginess” was one of the main reasons why he was so popular. Jailhouse Rock stayed at number 1 on the US Billboard for seven straight weeks!!! Elvis was INSANELY ahead of his time, and changed popular culture forever! His influence still lives on even in 2024 :D

The way he sings... the way he dances... it's so captivating! Elvis makes it look and sound so easy - it's truly a gift! P.S. I love the choreography at 1:22 - the transition between sliding around the pole and walking is so slick!

When I was a kid, I thought he was kind of a joke. I grew up in the late 60's/early 70's. His greased hair and bad movies were so out of style. Then, after he died, I realized how unique and great he was. I'm a huge fan now. In his prime, he was, IMHO, the sexiest man alive, and a great singer! Sorry he left us so soon. R.I.P. Elvis, king of rock and roll forever!

The warden threw a party in the county jail. The prison band was there and they began to wail. The band was jumpin' and the joint began to swing. You should've heard those knocked out jailbirds sing. Let's rock, everybody, let's rock. Everybody in the whole cell block Was dancin' to the Jailhouse Rock. Spider Murphy played the tenor saxophone, Little Joe was blowin' on the slide trombone. The drummer boy from Illinois went crash, boom, bang, The whole rhythm section was the Purple Gang. Let's rock, everybody, let's rock. Everybody in the whole cell block Was dancin' to the Jailhouse Rock. Number forty-seven said to number three: "You're the cutest jailbird I ever did see. I sure would be delighted with your company, Come on and do the Jailhouse Rock with me." Let's rock, everybody, let's rock. Everybody in the whole cell block Was dancin' to the Jailhouse Rock. The sad sack was a sittin' on a block of stone Way over in the corner weepin' all alone. The warden said, "Hey, buddy, don't you be no square. If you can't find a partner use a wooden chair." Let's rock, everybody, let's rock. Everybody in the whole cell block Was dancin' to the Jailhouse Rock. Shifty Henry said to Bugs, "For Heaven's sake, No one's lookin', now's our chance to make a break." Bugsy turned to Shifty and he said, "Nix nix, I wanna stick around a while and get my kicks." Let's rock, everybody, let's rock. Everybody in the whole cell block Was dancin' to the Jailhouse Rock. Dancin' to the Jailhouse Rock Dancin' to the Jailhouse Rock Dancin' to the Jailhouse Rock Dancin' to the Jailhouse Rock Dancin' to the Jailhouse Rock...
