It’s crazy to think this was considered to be super “edgy” back in the day. The concept of convicts being the main focus/protagonists and Elvis’s dances like moving his hips was met with controversy. But it didn’t matter, because just like a lot of his music, the song was a big success and overshadowed the controversy. The “edginess” was one of the main reasons why he was so popular. Jailhouse Rock stayed at number 1 on the US Billboard for seven straight weeks!!! Elvis was INSANELY ahead of his time, and changed popular culture forever! His influence still lives on even in 2024 :D

Fun fact In this movie scene Elvis was supposed to do a Broadway type of chorégraphed dancing but he didn't feel comfortable with it. He asked to dance in his own way . When I was a kid, I thought he was kind of a joke. I grew up in the late 60's/early 70's. His greased hair and bad movies were so out of style. Then, after he died, I realized how unique and great he was. I'm a huge fan now. In his prime, he was, IMHO, the sexiest man alive, and a great singer! Sorry he left us so soon. R.I.P. Elvis, king of rock and roll forever!
