The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

YESS MAME! In case anyone doesn't know this song is from a musical called Mame. The musical opened in 1966 and this was the 1968 replacement cast.

I had no idea that Helen Gallagher went in as Gooch. You can hear her singing voice, so distinctive. Loved when she sang on Ryan’s Hope.

My great friend saw Jane Morgan in MAME and he said she was WONDERFUL. What an original cast recording it would have made to have had Jane Morgan singing the entire score (and what about Helen Gallagher singing Gooch?).

When I was a kid we would have there was something wrong in the head with anyone trimming a Christmas tree right after Thanksgiving. Now lots of people do it... and the tree comes down on Dec 26. So much for the twelve days of Christmas.

It can't be Kurt Russell who was 17 (born in 1951) at the time of this clip. According to Internet Broadway Database, the young Patrick was played by either Chris Hagan or David Manning (who started playing the role on 4/1/68). Helen Gallagher, who is always terrific, took over the role of Gooch also on 4/1/68. The whole cast must have changed on 4/1 since Janis Paige took over from Angela Lansbury on that date. Jane Morgan replaced Janis Paige on 12/2/68.
