In 2024, you choose an ESP and not an Arduino ..

So does the R4's RTC loose it's time when powered off?
@THEELECTRONICGUY4 ай бұрын
You have to power it separately from a battery so that it remains on. It's just like attaching an external RTC module(with a coin cell) but now you don't have to make any connections.

Thanks your explanation was very helpful and now I know which board to get.

Adding an esp32 for WiFi and Bluetooth is lunacy. Just by itself is is more capable than an Arduino. It's like adding a mercedes to your Lada coz you want to use the blinkers

Couldn't agree more. But I think the idea behind adding the ESP32 to the UNO R4 is to give users the best of both worlds. By integrating the ESP32, you get the feeling of using the same old familiar UNO without having to jump to a completely new board. Also, they want users to use their IoT cloud with the Arduino boards.

@@THEELECTRONICGUY there indeed might be lots of reasons, but i think when sticking to the arduino IDE, the transfer from Arduino to an esp32 would not be so great. Regardless, it offers an extra choice for those who find the step too big or to alienating. Up to each own what to choose 😊

To be honest, even using the built in ESP32 on UNO R4 is not that easy. It has its own problems. Yes it comes with some pre loaded examples in IDE but when you want to program it for different applications, there are not a lot of libraries available.

So i have to buy an entire board for every new project? It’s a pity! 😢
@THEELECTRONICGUY7 ай бұрын
What do you mean by "for every new project"?
@ex1stenz7 ай бұрын
I used to program the dip chip atmega with Arduino board, then i swap the chip, and with just the cristal osc and bunch of pwr supply components, into my current project into a custom board (lets say an irrigation system). Now with this chip package is not possible.

@@ex1stenzwell if you just used your arduino board as an atmega328 programmer, why would you even need the R4?
@THEELECTRONICGUY4 ай бұрын
I think what he meant by that is: It would have been great if there was a DIP uc on new UNO, obviously not this much powerful but powerful than the ATmega328. This would have given him an easy way to program that new UC with bunch of components and with additional power as well.

8ma ? They need to fix that tbh. Thats pretty bad.
