Aaww...this video brings back so many great memories 😊 I went to Sri Lanka in 2004 (got home around a week before the tsunami hit!). It has always had a special place in my heart; such a unique country, with so much beauty. I just regret that I didn't try more local food; maybe I should go back some day to do that ☺️ Although I do remember trying the arrack - that's some strong stuff 😆

We were in Sri lanka in February this year (2020) had a great time taking a ride on local trains and buses is a fun thing to do, but the biggest highlight was getting to see elephants up close in the national park.

Surely no one can dislike woodapple? Growing up in Colombo I would wolf down woodapple jam sandwiches , before rushing off to school. Distant memories. Woodapple cordial was also a favourite. Shanjei comes across as a great character, with whom one could to enjoy a few Lion beers.

Shanjei was the best! But woodapples are the worst..at least in my (Allison's) opinion! 😂My taste buds must just be weird, because they tasted so funky to me, but everyone else seems to love them 🤷‍♀️

Galle is amazing! We visited Sri Lanka back in 2015. I love the coral within the construction. Connecting with a local tour guide is always the best idea to hear great stories and get an insider's view of the area. Shanjei's beard is epic! Blue cheese + apple = 😵. India Hut and Dairy King ~ so cooperate 😆

@@Theendlessadventure There is an elephant festival in June I think it is that we really wanted to go to.... looks like that isn't happening anymore! You said it right, some days are better than others! Do you guys get to go see your families soon? Being around family helps. It must have been really hard quarantine near your families and not being able to see them. We came from Thailand about a week ago so I haven't been able to see my parents yet, but hopefully soon!

@@samandnick I think you are referring to the Kandy Pageant (called Kandy Perahera or procession in Sinhala, our local language). This happens in the month of August in Kandy, where more than 100 elepants take part along with a multitude of dancers, whip crackers, etc,etc. This pageant has been going on for about more 1000 years. You can google Kandy Perahera and find out more. Thank you Eric and Allison for visiting our motherland at a time it needed you most and I am also happy that you got home before the virus set in. Really enjoyed all your videos. By the way, Allison, Woodapple juice is my elder daughters favourite drink and she still buys it from the Sri Lankan food shops in Switzerland, where she lives.

I cant believe KZbinrs are allowed to travel and have a carefree, fun, relaxing, good old time. Its totally not fair at all.
