Pro Colorado Tip: Where ever you find your dream cabin, try to choose an unincorporated county like Park County (Bailey, Fairplay, Town of Jefferson). The sales taxes in Park County are far far less than counties like Boulder, Denver or Jeffco (Golden, Morrison, Conifer, etc.). This will save you a TON of money! We grew up in the Denver metro area before moving to Bailey and the move saved us thousands per year on things like property tax, car registration and even the purchase of our house. Good luck and I'm really excited for you guys!
@HomeWorkouts_LS Жыл бұрын
Don't you pay the sales tax if you visit & buy stuff in those areas though? And property taxes are very low in Denver metro compared to TX (where they're from). But yeah the car registration everything is surprisingly high.

A tip for opening champagne is to put a towel over the cork. You firmly hold the cork and rotate and "unscrew" the bottle. This way the cork is trapped underneath the towel and you have much more control of opening the champagne. Cheers!

To open Champagne, don’t pop the cork, slowly twist the cork off. You can use a dish towel, to cover the cork. You’ll hear a satisfying poof, and the bottle will be a perfect pour. Please just make sure, wherever you buy, have a good water source, with a reliable well, or town water. Even though there’s snow, high altitude desert is common. 🤷♀️
@patriciaburke6639 Жыл бұрын
I seem to recall a recommendation that you hold the cork and unscrew the bottle from it, to avoid unnecessary wastage. I’ve never tried it mind you, as I wouldn’t waste money buying a bottle, as I have always considered Champagne to be extremely overrated.
@critterkarma Жыл бұрын
@@patriciaburke6639 the same goes for any sparkling wine. 😊 yes twisting either, the bottle or the cork, will work. The trick is slow and steady.
@donnacastle2490 Жыл бұрын
Good choice for a rental. For Colorado mountains February is usually the coldest. March and April usually the snowiest. Stay aware of altitude when looking at property. The higher you go, the more snow you get - like 8 months of snow for 9000ft and above. I think 7500ft with south-facing exposure is an ideal mix of all we have to offer. Enjoy the exploring. Just one pro tip for you - quality sunglasses. Please get some. Sun glare can be problematic. Love you guys.
@GenXBecks Жыл бұрын
Hi Allison. I work in wine and can confirm that you can open sparkling wine safely at home by twisting the bottle on a flat surface and gently cupping and lifting the cork with your hand over it. No fear!

Colorado native here with a recommendation! I highly recommend looking near Buena Vista and the surrounding areas. Easy access to both Colorado Springs, Denver, and ski towns, but is FAR more affordable and incredibly beautiful. It is a great spot that we go to often for weekend getaways! Has a cute old downtown with Eddyline Brewery, is close to several hot springs, and is situated right next to the Arkansas River and Collegiate Peaks. Being from Colorado Springs I am also partial to the Woodland Park area too!

Always important when you’re looking remote- the community and people are just as important if not more! You’ll need your neighbors, money won’t fix every problem. So if you run through a community and feel unsure, or don’t like what you’re hearing in a diner pass on. Also consider the long term basics- is there a solid physician, dentist etc pharmacy. An hour or two sounds simple to drive into the city but it’ll get old real fast and may not be possible in an emergency situation.

I lived in South Park for four years as a child and for another four years in the early 2000’s. You have to like winter 6 months of the year in order to live there. Check out the area around Fremont County northwest of Canon City. It is mountainous but cheaper land and more temperate climate. It’s also only an hour from Colorado Springs!

I LOVE visiting SW Colorado, but think you guys are definitely looking in the right region - especially with your travel needs. My personal dream spot is somewhere near Buena Vista. It's a slightly longer drive to the airport than the Jefferson/Fairplay area, but still less than half a day. Not quite as elevated/cold, but has a similar valley surrounded by mountains feel. And there's just more day-to-day niceties nearby. Plus far more warm weather activities with the Arkansas river and lots of nearby 14ers.

TV's above the fire look great but are a pain in the neck to watch. An option you may want to look at when you build your own place is mounting the TV on a lowering bracket, so you can pull it down to a comfortable position when actually watching it, or leave it high when it is on for background or workouts.

Looks like something out of the Yellowstone series. Although the cabin is a bit over-the-top the setting is magnificent. I think I could be very happy there but I'm older than you two and pretty self-contained. How close is the nearest town with a few decent bars and some entertainment? How close is medical support if you decide to start a family? If the answers to such questions are reasonable then I'd say go for it. Maybe a fixer-upper would give you more scope for KZbin content? And some land to keep animals and grow salad & vegetables would also add interest. Chuck needs a block & fuel line heater and a plug-in. Good luck!

We moved from a large metropolitan area to a remote area 12 years ago. Sadly, a key thing we miss is good dining options. At first we put on a brave face and sampled all the local places (within 30mile radius) but after many years there's only a few that are good and delivery is a disaster. You-all like to go out to eat / sample places / order in and this could be a challenge if you choose an area so remote you can't get into the big city for dinner. Don't get me wrong, we Love where we live but we miss the wide choice of great places to eat :)

If you are still in Fairplay drive yourself to Woodland Park. The views are beautiful and there are some pretty sweet small towns. My husband and I did this 5 years ago and fell in love. Within a month we had purchased a house in Woodland Park. It's a small town, but just 1/2 hour from Colorado Springs so we have access to nice stores and an airport! If you want more information about the area I have created a really nice website with links to all there is to do here. Let me know if you would like the link! They call this the "Banana Belt" because the weather is milder here than much of Colorado. In the summer it is literally paradise!

My first hot tub experience was in the winter in Kansas City at a friends house. We got into the hot tub, about midnight, with snow falling and melting just before it hit your face. That juxtaposition of hot and cold was lovely...the walk back into the house though, that was something else altogether.

Throw a dish towel over the cork, grip it from on top of the dish towel and work it out by slowly twisting. The cork will pop out and if it wants to fly, it can't go far because the dish towel will catch it. Did that make any sense?
