Hello everyone! Welcome to my home, this is an updated walkthrough of my cottage/renovated barn (we call it a cottage lol). A lot has changed, I'm definitely going for that fairytale home, whimsical cottage vibes, with a simple but cozy interior. I hope you enjoy it and can leave some ideas and tips!

Some details that I forgot to mention: we have this house thanks to the kindness of Luke’s parents, he and his father worked in construction for a long while and they renovated this barn on their property before selling it to us at a price we could afford. Otherwise, it would be nearly impossible to buy a new home in this area, so we are feeling so grateful each day we can even exist here ❤ most of the items in the home are thrifted, gifted, re-done, with some new items that I couldn’t find anywhere else. I also had quite a few pieces I saved from my childhood bedroom because I’ve always like vintage-style furniture. We like to be thrifty and sustainable when possible, and it goes to show you with a coat of paint and patience a lot of things can look brand new! I hope you enjoy 😊 *since I’m now living with my husband, we are combining our lives, hence we have certain furniture items we wouldn’t have had before. He loves watching movies, and I love painting, so we’re working on getting a little painting room set up. We’ve found ways to compromise and work together. It’s been a fun trip!

Dearest Paola, you don't need advice on how to decorate a home. Your home already is absolutely stunning and just RADIATES love, kindness, gentleness, it is romantic and cheery. Our kitchen feels really dark in the winter, too, so my mom strings up twinkle lights along the cupboards. It both lightens and decorates the room! I think my best friend gave me the idea...Also, I put little ivy string lights up in my own room for a little "fairy feel" inspired by Paola, of course! It adds light and greenery. 😊

It's so cozy and sweet. Since you called the coat rack a "monstrosity", you could consider doing a wall rack with 4 hooks. Then you could make a wider shoe rack to fit underneath. Then you are utilizing the horizontal space. The coat rack could then be used for towels in the bathroom.

oh my goodness I haven't watched in a while - great progress. I used to watch when I was with a partner that wasn't very peaceful and nice to me. I remember sitting up in bed and watching your videos or being in the front room (which was my office) and your videos calmed me and gave me a different perspective. You home is darling, and Luke's work is exquisite. The only bit of decorating advice I have is this: build in to save space when you can. In your dining nook, you might consider building an L-shaped banquette under the corner windows instead of adding chairs (if there's room). It has a smaller foot print than individual chairs do, and you can use the space under the benches for storage. Your home already reflects your taste and talent. As you continue to thrift and create, each year your home will mold a little bit more to suit you and Luke. I've been thrifting and upcycling for thirty years, and the cumulative effect is a house that reflects me perfectly and doesn't look like anyone else's!

You’ve put a word to something I’ve been trying to describe for a long time. When I was a little girl, I spent a summer sitting on a pile of little stones behind my neighbors house. Some of the stones sparkled and, being very little, I thought it was gold. So I put those stones on a cement block and ground it down to dust using a flat stone. I worked all summer and managed to fill a match box. I didn’t care. When I think back to it, the most important part of that was just the sitting and quietly concentrating on a task that I loved doing. Now I live in a little travel trailer. I have spent the summer crisscrossing the country to spend time with friends and family. Even though I have multiple ways to have internet, most of the time I have none at all. It can bring me to tears. Except I keep remembering that summer of crushing stones and I have found that getting back to that kind of life is so amazing. Yes, it’s kind of painful for a while and I begin doubting my decision to do this life. Yet once I get past missing of busy-ness, I’m so happy and content. And productive. Thank you for giving me the right word for it. Mono-tasking.

If anyone reading this is not familiar with Tasha Tudor, please google her. She, like Paola, was an artist and author who lived a life that was true to herself. Tasha is gone now, but she lives on in her charming children's books that she illustrated herself in watercolor. One of my favorites is "Pumpkin Moonshine". I loved watching you and Luke interact even more than seeing your pretty cottage. Respect and kindness are so very important in making a home. I love that the room with outdoor access and loads of windows will be where you wake up. I think balancing the warm wood with fabric and texture is going to be such an adventure. I actually love a more empty bedroom. It allows me to start and end my days more gently. It’s the room that is only allowed to hold meaningful things. Do you like creams and blues? They would do well with the wood. Or dark green. Or candle colors. Lol I love all the colors.

What a cute cottage. Good work! Luke is a very talented builder and you're a talented artist. The raw edges on the shelves are exquisite. I also like the raw edge shelf/ledge over the front door. You and Luke are cute together. I wish you two a long and happy life together in your cottage.

A chandelier or hanging lamp and a mirror with a decal border might make the kitchen seem more expansive and bright. You could do glass doors/inserts on the cabinets and install some lights in there as well if that's something you'd be interested in.
