Thank God for people like you! You really dispel the 'ignorant Americans' myth. There seems to be a particular myth that Americans come here to the UK and don't get farther than London. (and unfortunately some videos show this). Thank you for showing our lovely places outside the capital. I look forward to your coming to Birmingham, which all the Birminghams in the USA were named after.
@notreyf6 жыл бұрын
To be fair, how many Brits travel to unusual places in the USA? Most travel to Florida, New York or Vegas. I also have to say that nearly every American I have ever met, either here in the UK, in the USA or in other countries have been far from ignorant.

So true.... I’ve just come from watching a US couple visiting London, they showed two places... McDonald’s and the m&m store🙄🙈 This is refreshing, not all Americans are stupid!

I’m a builder. I spend every day outside. In actual fact, the overwhelming amount of time is dry, just not sunny. This summer was hot and sunny for long periods (weeks, not months). The ‘relative’ dampness gives the UK food for the plant-life, hence, the greenery; so when the sun is out and it’s hot you will be surrounded by lush greenery; that’s what makes British summers so idyllic. I love the uk.

Yep. That's a British summer. That's the south too! We had a super heatwave that lasted about a week but I hated it.. It was nice for 2 days but a lack of air con and a general lack of preparedness for heat really sucks. As crap as our weather is I do quite like it but that could just be my Irish blood talking! We don't have cream tea that often here in the UK. I had some over a year ago but not since then. I did enjoy it though! It'd be really cool if you went around the UK to see all the castles one day. When tourists think of the UK they often think of the empire but there's a lot of great medieval history too! There are some really nice castles where I live in Wales. Pretty epic when I think about it. Like there's a castle about 2 miles from where I live called oystermouth castle and just up the road from me is a big watchtower/fort. It's cool to me anyway

If you ever come back another great place to have a cream tea is St Mawgan. There's a little tea room and garden behind the post office there. You can have your cream tea either outside or in the conservatory area. It's really quaint and it all comes in proper tea sets but they're all mismatched which adds to the charm. They also do a savoury cream tea in additional to the traditional cornish cream tea, which consists of a cheese scone, butter, ham, cream cheese, a generous slab of hard cheese, some chutney and a few slices of apple. So if you're more of a savoury person than a sweet person you might enjoy that.

Really enjoying your videos guys, they're a great way to while away my insomnia. :-) Re the clotted cream: a lot of British things are less sweet than their closest American equivalents, because we don't either refine sugar as much or load in as great a quantity as they do in the states. If you got into the UK before American multi-nationals bought up the chocolate industry and FUBAR'd the recipes, you'd have noticed that our chocolate was noticeably different too, for the same reason. (Sorry, I don't mean to sound like I'm crapping on your homeland here.) If you ever manage to find your way back to the UK again, I could most recommend that you try Northumberland, the northernmost English county. If you base yourself out of the town of Alnwick, you'll be only about ten or twelve miles from Hadrian's Wall and the county is the most densely packed one for castles in the whole of the UK with a great many National Trust and English Heritage properties too. You also have fish and chips which legitimately rival Cornwall's, being freshly caught out of the North Sea not many hours before. The landscape is itself hugely unique and beautiful, albeit very different to Cornwall's. Northumberland found its way into George R.R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire novels (the basis for Game of Thrones) in many ways, including its ancient rulers being styled The King in the North and the Wall, the one in Westeros being an exaggerated version of Hadrian's Wall and serving pretty much an identical purpose.

if you guys are in the UK again you should try a High Tea, it is the fancy version of the Cream tea. served on a cake-stand, one layer of the stand has sandwiches ( particularly cucumber sandwiches) the next has scones and the final has miniature cakes. and washed down with a champagne as well as tea. this is available at most high end hotels which have tea rooms. my Favourite would be the Old Parsonage in Oxford, but you can get it anywhere in the Uk, ( note traditional time for a cream/high tea is 4pm, but it is a full meal so no need to have lunch aswell)

Anyway everybody--whether you prefer the Devon or the Cornwall incarnations of this fantastic British delicacy--the basic Scone is a Scottish invention, according to Wikipedia they started off as oatmeal griddle cakes and were baked like a large pizza shape and cut and served in triangles. The rest of the UK quickly caught on and refined them into the delights we know and love today
