Hey I'm sorry to contradict your opinion this way. But if you actually notice a little carefully, it's not the fact that he is able to convert sentences into English so fluently, rather it's about how much of knowledge he has gained in the field of Vocabulary that helps him in shortening his sentences. Most of the words he uses, aren't even known by the regular people of Britain as well as America.

Whenever I hear Dr Tharoor speaking on topics other than politics, I'm like why this person is into politics! He's cut out to be an ideal professor in English literature and linguistics. It's not only because of his thorough knowledge of the language, but his verbal eloquence, his amazing way of explaining things, his wit, his good humour, and not to mention,that impeccable accent n pronunciation!

I could n't agree with you more! I would also have loved to see him as a Professor of English in any leading university anywhere in the world. But perhaps he delved into politics due to the 'power', that is associated with politics. But having said that I would also like to add that I firmly believe in George Bernard Shaw 's quote.... "Politics is the last resort for the scoundrel". But Dr. Tharoor is no scoundrel, and is definitely a class apart from the multitude of crass and unsophisticated politicians that India possesses!!

You've conveniently overlooked Mr. Chidambaram. He's an equally effective speaker or more so and never resorts to fancy words to drive home his point. Furthermore, he's also one of the few parliamentarians who's equally at home when speaking in his mother-tongue. I have seldom seen him use English words when speaking in Tamil.

The British pronounced as they could and the Indian people pronounced as they could. So seen there were invaders from Portugal in India, they also left their traces and some words including this one. Arisi (Tamil) -> Rice - via Roman & Geek, but well before English Inchiver (Tamil) -> Ginger, again well before English. Brinjal comes from Persian, and it is also used in Hongkong and China. Amah comes from all over (Portugese, Cantonese, Tamil among many others lay claim for it as a word meaning "nanny") it is the word for mother - which is a version of the universal word "ma".

Oh that was a real feast of two great 'English Nuts'! Just wished the convo went on and on, as it was so very interesting to watch two ppl, belonging to two different states of India (Kerala & Bengal) that's otherwise similar in every single aspect including politics, sharing their common interest too!!!
