Think part of the reason also lies in the Franchise design more then ust Bad Game design, Even in the face of Mark, he's not terrible at games, but he's known to take more 'obtuse' routes to get to the end, especially ing ames where the ideas/franchise was working on GEnerally Backwards ways to get from point A to B... The game gave no waypoints, made missions go backwards, and when he got lost, he pointed out taht the game oddly and kinda moronically made his goal more or less a stright foward path that he overlooked cause it's 'TOo obvious'... Though the Laser tag was redumlious beyond belife... The game is terrible for not explainning it, Mark not trying the turn in made sense since he's told to 'get a laser gun' but still kind've silly to not assume that he'll get rewarded with one, but on the same back of that actually Lining out in your objectives that the prize is a 'Gold Fazblaster' would've been better when you spend too MUCH time lining out half of the other Objectives, and another half is 'assumed' the player will just 'figure it out'.

He briefly talks about the endings but regrettably he didn't dig deep enough into the madness of the endings. First of all, the ending looks like it skipped three or four scenes that are meant to build up to the climax. Then, midway through the climax, it abruptly switches from a visually impressive CGI cutscene to a comic strip that slides along the images of what happens next. It reminds me of a Key and Peele skit where it is a high fantasy music video that uses its budget halfway through and suddenly everything drops to its barest quality possible. It's such a bizarre choice, at the top of the entire game which is a series of bizarre choices, that it borders on satirical.

Fun fact: the game is so glitchy it is trivially easy to restore the save function. Go to the race track level and redo any of the objectives in there that you have completed. It will rewind time back before 6 am without undoing any of your other progress.
@Greywander872 жыл бұрын
I think the worst part is that this is almost mandatory because of how glitchy the game is. You can do nothing wrong and still die, and having your last save be locked to only the game's halfway point means losing a lot of progress through no fault of your own. If they fixed the glitches so that any time you died was your own fault, then it might be more rewarding. The threat of lost progress is a strong motivator to take the game seriously and play like death has actual consequences. When you can just reload a save from two minutes ago, it's hard to feel like you're in real danger, and you can play much more recklessly. But if a death isn't your fault and you lose that much progress, that's a rage-quite in the making.
@NeonIcyWings2 жыл бұрын
Honestly the most impressive part was Yahtzee was (apparently) willing to trudge on through to different endings were it not for the ballsed up decision to disable saves in the final stretch of the game. I still wanna know why they made that decision honestly. It doesn't really align with any sense of difficulty I know which makes me think the person who made that decision is either a twat or has no idea what makes good game design. Difficulty is in itself difficult to objectively describe, but can be boiled down to, in my opinion "An expansion or inversion or twist on the core of this game's basics" It adds something, tests something or throws something on its head. Taking away saves doesn't do that, it shoves a niche challenge mode down the throats of most players who don't care about that sorta challenge. What next oh dear Security Breach designer? "To get the true ending to Elden Ring you need to pull off a soul level one no hit run of all previous Soulsborne games."
@Castersvarog2 жыл бұрын

@icarue9932 жыл бұрын
I would say difficulty is changing variables to make it more challenging while still being fair. Generally this is to change health and defense of allies and enemies, but it can also be reaction time and invinsibility frames, like in Fallen Order. Disabling difficulty on itself is fine. Many games do this in hard difficulty. Well... they do: you "die = restart". Which would have been fine too... IF THEY STARTED WITH THAT FROM THE VERY BEGINING **WITH PLAYER'S CONSENT**. As it is rn is as if you were playing a game, and suddenly they ramp up the difficulty without you asking (Cough, Pokemon Brilliant Diamond cough).

I was really hoping he'd be one of the folks who powered through to true ending, just so he'd piss on it. It's dragging back in the tangled lore from the other games and ruins what would have been a great start for a new chapter of the series. Also worth mentioning, Fred at some point mentions "the indicator on your map" to suggest there's supposed to be objective markers, but there isnt one. The game feels like it has all the right ingredients, it just put them in a septic tank instead of a bowl.

@jinjar74532 жыл бұрын
@@candlestone5397 but he died in that second fire. His past finally caught him and he was burned in a building specifically designed to kill animatronics, during a dramatic speech about how everything is finally over. We even got to see him in hell. Also in the true ending glitchtrap and Vanny are unaccounted for, which is concerning. In the end, they had to rush it out the door before it was ready, and ye _gods_ does it _show._

I don't pity the developers. Did they really need to 3D model most of those collectibles? Did they really need to add upgrades? Did they really need both a laser gun and flash camera? @thekoifishcoyote8762 I can respect Scott Cawthon for taking his work seriously enough to not want to cut corners, especially considering how prevalent that is in the triple-A gaming industry -- but obsessing over an unrealistic outcome at the expense of the game itself is what sunk _Daikatana,_ and both Ion Storm and John Romero along with it, so one would _think_ that sensible project management would be the _first_ lesson indie devs internalize.

FNAF is a series where the games take a back seat and what most people are interested in are the supplementary material. FNAF is sold on its lore, personality, and Fandom memes/rule 34. Most people who say they're fans probably haven't played past night 3 of the first game before giving up and binging matpats theory videos. It's a shame cause FNAF started out amazing, unique idea, popularized the whole "Indie game with super dark backstory hidden behind layers of Easter eggs." Thing but it just went on and on and on. The main villain has died three times already, you'd think by that point they'd just start a new series in the same universe or something but no.

I'm seriously beginning to wonder if Scott Cawthon took a look at how the game was shaping up, saw the writing on the wall even at that point, and decided to abandon ship while he still had some shred of a reputation left intact before this game blew the whole thing to Kingdom Come. Streamers and KZbinrs are this series' bread and butter, so if even they were turned off by this game, I think it's safe to say the jig is up. Betcha Warner Bros. is seriously regretting the whole movie deal now that FNaF's reputation is firmly in the toilet.

Went into this game with excitement, went out of it feeling completely empty. It really makes me question as to what it was that went so horribly wrong during development. It's clear that the developers cared a great deal about the series and the VR game they made before this was pretty good, so this is not the result of plain laziness or greed, but _something_ had to be the cause behind all this.

I also don't agree with the designs of the animatronics in Security Breach! A big part of what made FNAF so effective was looking at these broken, decrepit machines that, even when in perfect upkeep, still could and LOOKED like they could bite your entire head off, and realizing "Holy sh*t, they let CHILDREN play with these???" None of that in Sec Breach! Perfect, pristine, not even a STAIN on the surface! At one point you actually GET IN Freddy, a moment that in any other game would be DEATH, and safely pilot him around without a care in the world! The only remotely threatening design is that off the Sun/Moon one, and other than that it's like getting threatened by a f*cking DISNEYLAND MASCOT
@blackbirdfrost2 жыл бұрын
So, as I recall, at least in the first 2 games (which is about how long the series remained interesting to me), the animatronics didn't attack kids because they were possessed by the ghosts of children murdered by a psychopath employee wearing one of the suits. The only exception being "the bite of 87" which I guess was explained that some bullies tossed another kid's head into an animatronic's mouth. When did this change? When did the games stop trying to paint a mystery for theorists to wrack their brains piecing together? The mystery was the most fun thing about the games.
@Greywander872 жыл бұрын
I mean, MatPat has like three videos on Security Breach. There's lore and mysteries there, though with how much was cut from the game it's hard to know for sure if we have the whole picture. Also, while the current theories might have been truly surprising earlier on in the series' history, at this point it's a bit predictable. For example, many people, including myself, independently came up with the idea that Gregory is a robot. It's not the first time that a "human" child turned out to be a robot; it's happens I think twice in the books. And at that point, it's no longer really that surprising. I think from a lore perspective, Security Breach was a bit disappointing for a number of reasons, but at least there's still something there.

It had very good production values, which can be seen in the visuals and voice acting. The pizzaplex looks like a nice open space to explore. Sadly, the rest of the game design was not up to par. The pizzaplex is largely empty, so while it's cool to look around, there's very little to actually find. Glitches abound, including ones that can get you killed, which is tolerable up until saving gets disabled. It feels like a good chunk of the game is just missing, or unfinished. It seems like there's hidden lore, but it's hard to know for sure if what's there is accurate due to how much content was probably cut. Some of the bad design choices are also baked into the core gameplay, so probably not something a patch or DLC would fix.

"the game never really establishes that the animatronics are hostile, we just take that as read" Fricken' a to that, it was frankly my biggest problem with this scizhophrenic game. You have a new protag who has no connection to the series cause its a soft reboot or something, and you don't even bother to establish the basic building blocks on why you shouldn't trust the staff. You don't get an in-universe explanation for why he doesn't trust them until after it's too late, so you just spend a game with a kid running away from people who as far as you, the player, can tell are "just trying to help". And then at the very end of the game he brings up disappearences? why doesn't he say that at the start? and when did freddy find out about them? And on that note, at what point does freddy go from "the robos are my friends, we all want to help, don't hurt them" to "you aren't safe here, my friends are trying to kill you" Bugs can be perserved through if you at least have a game with a comprehensible storyline

I'm not really informed on whatever actually happened, but I'd assume its got something to do with the creator of the series getting death threats to his family over something on twitter and then leaving the franchise. In any case though, when a game goes through something like that, this is basically what you're gonna get. A buggy unfinished mess that has to be released anyway to be able to cover development costs. That being said, screw whoever decided that you shouldn't be able to save anymore after reaching 6AM, you can't excuse that garbage piece of game design away with production hell.

Correct me if I'm wrong, I'm going off rumors cause I never looked into it myself, though it seems like something that could be completely true. But I think the death threats came because of something Trump related.

i think he got death threats for donating to conservative political parties
@EvilExcalibur2 жыл бұрын
The guy donated to Trump's presidential campaign. That's it. People didn't care about context or his character as a person (Trump wasn't his first choice and he was also fond of donating to charities and financially supporting struggling indie developers) because of that and immediately started coming after him. In my opinion he did the right thing in bowing out the second that he saw the Twitter mobs amassing. Working on the games was getting stressful by that point too so the whole shit show really was the perfect excuse to do so.

@@EvilExcalibur The biggest irony of that situation was the fact that most of the outrage was from the LGBT+ community who believed he was backing homophobic policies. What most people failed to mention is that the Dev has donated even larger sums of money to various LGBT charities than he did to the conservatives

I believe there was also something about the game either having a deadline shoved up, or their budget was being used too fast that they just ran out of money and development space to put it all together.

I know, right? It’s strange. I was in middle school when I got into it, and I’m a legal adult now. But it seems to have shed most of its original fans like me and recruited a new legion of middle schoolers. I blame the fact that early FNAF wasn’t initially made with a young audience in mind. They just happened to hit that sweet spot of effective horror without explicitly shown violence that kids are drawn to. But at some point they realized that was the core audience and started trying to appeal to them. So the original fans like me outgrew it, and the only new people it could bring in were kids.

The reason why it gets positive reviews is relatively simple, you just gotta remember when FNaF 4 came out and let you move point and click style it was the hugest fucking thing the franchise has ever seen. The bar is that low.

This is why I prefer to watch other people play such games on YT rather than buying them myself. Why waste money getting frustrated at a screen when I can enjoy watching other people do it? Cuz every time a FNaF game comes out, you just know there's gonna be tons of big youtubers playing it to hell and back just for the sake of keeping up the status quo.

ZP's Worst Game of 2022, as summed up by Yahtzee: "Considering I gave Carkplace: Titshaker a prize, it shouldn't surprise you to hear that I feel a bit out-of-touch with the kids. I cannot comprehend how anyone can look at Security Breach and see anything but a horrendously badly thought-out six-lane pile-up of a game, riddled with terrible design decisions and misplaced effort, held together about as efficiently as a swarm of angry wasps in a fishing net. But the popularity of Five Nights at Freddy's mystifies me generally, so maybe I'm the wrong demographic; maybe this is like complaining that there's no driving philosophical theme at the heart of Peppa Pig's Pumpkin Party."

Since I'm a sane person and don't follow big name streamers on twitch, the release of this game would have completely passed me by if it hadn't been for the absolutely insane deluge of fanart for the furrybait wolf character. I will always blame MatPat for that one video where everyone tried to find out the lore of a jump scare indie game about Chuck E. Cheese mascots. The first game was fine; it was tense and it was simple. Haunted pizzeria, done. But each game had to put in more and more mechanics, and vaguely tell the story little by little (which I honestly believe that Scott did so that he didn't have to write most of the story and steal ideas from others) with each release.

The only thing about this franchise I like is the lore that is presented by Matt from The Game Theorists. Never played any of them, never will. But I really like watching him dig out hidden stuff. I don't know if he's just brainstorming a lil' too much, or the lore writers are godlike, either way its fun.

I suspect Yahtzee's response to this will be something along the lines of "If you didn't want bad reviews, maybe you shouldn't have released a buggy incomplete game, you festering twerpwombles" followed by a rant about how back in the days before online updates to games, anyone releasing a buggy unfinished game would be fed to the man-eating laser sharks (or the laser-eating man-sharks).

the reason you couldn;t stay in place is because at one point in game development scary rabbit lady would find you after you stayed too long sucking ur thumb. This forces you to move. The issue? Play testers kept getting caught and they never figured out how to implement it so this mechanic was scrapped so yeah it's weird Gregory just doesn't pick a hiding spot and swap every few hours.

It's not even pizza robots murdering children. It's some guy who worked at the restaurant murdering children. Which was good, has that undercurrent of "people like this are out there in the real world and you'd never know who is one until they're on the news", but from the fifth game on Scott Cawthon decided that a gritty plausible predator in some minimum wage low status job was too scary for the kids, so he transformed him, over the course of a single game, into an inexplicably Australian millionaire CEO mad scientist-occultist whose transformation into a pulped mummified corpse trapped in an iron maiden fursuit wasn't a karmic fate worse than death but a deliberate, successful attempt to become immortal and also become his fursona.
