The reason for ledger/cleat board is to be able to install pan tile 1st for overlapping purposes to shed water to the drain. Not because pan isn't level. Hopefully he's pouring his own pan not pre-fabbed.

The only issue that I observed in his videos is that he should show people how to measure from the bottom of the sower to top and calculate the width of the tile and spacers to the ceiling to insure that you don’t have small pieces at the top. If you do then you would have to to adjust horizontal start line in order to compensate.

Excellent video, just one pointer from a guy who works for one of the major tile setting mortar (ie thinset) manufacturers. Always put the water into your mixing bucket first, then slowly add the powder. You can add more water to adjust consistency if you need to. Most manufacturers will give you the maximum amount of water to add on the bag instructions. Same with grout or any cement based materials. They mix better.

With a 11-1/4" tile and a 1/8" gap to the base and a 1/8" spaxe up top, that is 11-1/2" total. Why did you make line at 12", which is 1/2" higher? Thank you!

I remolded not only my 1st foreclosure house, but I also worked for 5 years for a remodeling company here in S. FL. Some great tips here, and it's a great video. Many DIYs don't realize you need that level piece of wood to make sure there are not obvious slanted lines and also support to the tile on walls till the thin set starts to take hold. Unless it's a new build, many showers have bowed and non-plumbed walls. You walk in a shower and eyes are always drawn to eye level and above. Rarely to a compensation cut at the bottom. Also back buttering is essential. Again, great video!

I am actually about to take a leap of faith and take on my first full bathroom shower remodel for a customer which is a little intimidating because it’s new to me being a veteran carpenter with some tile experience but after watching a couple videos I feel mostly confident I can do it just hoping it goes smoothly with minimal errors but it is a high end job with lots of changes compared to existing set up like clients don’t want doors just a knee wall shelving and benches and tile all around so hopefully if I need advice you’ll be responsive 😂

Hubby and I did a tub surround and tile floor in our master bath 25 years ago. Although the cuts weren't perfect, those tiles still are perfect. No cracking, lifting, etc. I did regrout and seal everything about 4 years ago in preparation to sell. If done correctly, a tile job could last a lifetime. That house also had an original 1941 black and white tiled bathroom, that I regrouted and is in pristine shape to this day.

It is really good information if you have not done tile before. Take your time and it should turn out just fine. Good luck with your tile project!

I’m a union worker for another trade that I won’t publicly mention lol but helping couple friends with weekend jobs gave me a passion for learning all trades including shower tiles. I’m naturally a homebody so watching this is more therapeutic to me than getting drunk at a bar LOL. Love the quality and value of your videos bro. I’m hard-wired to details too. 👍🏽💯

Thank you for this video. I really like watching it. I have done 2 bathroom floors but not shower wall yet. For the bathroom floor I used the Schluter Ditra membrane which was very easy to work with. I am now planning on doing a 60x30 shower wall above a tub which is why I am watching your video. Not sure what wall board am going to use yet.

Halfway throught he video you ask to leave a comment if you have or have not. I have not. We are paying a contractor. No idea what it all entails and after watching half this video I am confident I will never do this myself. Thank you for the great video and major appreciation to those who do this for a living!

I have always enjoyed doing tile and coming up with unique looks. The time is rewarding for sure for me and the home owner. Using mosaic tiles is a great way to do accent borders in many ways. I had one job I used one that had some glass 1 inch square pieces that I actually used on the by 12 tiles and I clipped the corners periodically when I did a job floor to ceiling. Then I continued the decorative mosaic border around the mirror that was recessed in the tile as well. It was a very rewarding job at the end and very well loved by the customer and friend of mine. I love using both styles of wet saws depending on the jobs. Putting the board across at the beginning and the same as your border section is always a plus. Fantastic job Josh, and wonderful choice of colors.

My wife picked out the colors. I was just the installer 😃. I’ll let you know you liked the colors. Sounds like a beautiful project you did! It’s very satisfying to look at a tile job when you are finished. Like always, thanks for watching and commenting David!

Great video. Am beginning my 4th shower and use you for "re-fresher" before starting. You might mention to folks that if you use same color grout to finish it is more forgiving for small DIY mistakes.

A lot of good info and detail. I've done 25 to 30 bathrooms over a 35 year period but nothing in the past 6-7 years. Seems there is bunch stuff I'm not familiar with, never had, or maybe never needed. Great video though, got me to subscribe.

One tip, preset your spacers behind the ledger boards and rest the first row in the spacers. That way they will be there for your bottom row. Great work! 👍
