The memories of doing cement stucco is so similar. We mixed everything in a big chop box tub because of the volume of cement we did or even a cement mixer. That's all one person did to keep 3-4 guys going. The pully system we used was great for taking 5 gallon buckets of cement up the scaffolding even up 6-8 towers high. Having a 4×4 piece of exterior plywood to load up and go at it. I absolutely love how you take this to a level that those who may never have done either stone work or stucco, will give them the opportunity to try a small project. Expansion joints we had to do on areas that were really large for the purpose of the finish coat on stucco was so important to not get a over lap joint that would actually look bad unless you had at least 4-5 guys running the wall area at the same time from the bottom to the top of the job. Having options is always great to make any job look great. Thank you again Josh for the first part of this project.

I have never done stucco before but I would imagine it is very similar to this. I love the look of stucco. Sounds like you guys were very serious! It amazes me to see these huge buildings full of stucco around the beaches. I could only imagine the amount of labor it took to do those huge jobs. Sounds like that is what you guys were into. It is cool how you can paint stucco. The next video is going to be of applying the veneer. Thanks for stopping by David!

Did I mishear 8:00 ? Installing lath with rough side facing down gives less support to mortar after applying it, making higher chance for it to fail later on. From my understanding, the angle of the lath creates slight upward facing tiny shelves for the mortar to sit into and support.

You are correct, he did seem to be saying apply the lath cups down, which is wrong (although you will rarely see failures in the mortar due to this) Strangely enough the close up shot of his lath at approx. 17min in is cups up though.
@BGP369
@BGP369 Жыл бұрын
@@gabrieldwiggins4442 it might be he was referring to the cup concave facing down... Which would be strange use of English or maybe just a mistake? Not something a pro would mistake though imo.
@wnybricky1559
@wnybricky1559 7 ай бұрын
Yeah.. he said it right.. you want the cups to cut into the mortar when you start at the bottom and go up. That way it fills the cups. Once it dries it doesn’t matter at all how they are oriented. But they need to be imbedded. To test this try to install lath over a span of 2x4’s without a backer. Properly installed the backside of the lath should look like you are stacking popcorn on the back of the wall. Flip the lath the other way and it won’t be as full ( lots of air pockets) unless for some weird reason you start at the top and go down with your stucco.

I just went out ata night with flashlight; the handyman put the felt o veritcally in strips. Is this a big problem? The lath is already on--and not in one direction, either. I paid a lot of money as he said he has done this many times for stone work.... Do I have to redo the whole outcropping on front of house? I'll put on the scratch coat myself. I'm old, maimed, female, but I tend to be particular and like things done well and no leaks . Am going to install AirStone over all this. Let me kow if I have to re-do this entire project thus far.

Hey! I’m planning on laying some tile that looks like stone on our front entry that is covered under a roof. Pretty thin, just like Floor tile, do you need the wire? The product instructions say use thin set. Currently we have the synthetic felt over the OSB and plan is around the front door, side wall etc. Thanks! Want to do it myself.
@ajw5743
@ajw5743 Жыл бұрын
It is likely you will need the metal lathe. Interior vertically applied tile is typically applied after a Hardie backer covered wall has been prepared with redguard. This creates a solid surface on which to install tile, and you can apply your thinset directly onto the redguard prepped wall. However, in your case, you have sheathing and then house wrap if everything was done properly. The house wrap is not a solid surface and the thinset will not adhere well to it due to its waxy texture. The felt paper does two things: gives your mortar something textured to stick to and creates a barrier between the house wrap and the mortar. This allows the house wrap to continue doing its job shedding any intrusive water. However, the felt alone has not enough structure to create a solid surface for your mortar. You will need to install the metal lath so that you apply the mortar over a solid surface.
