I just nailed into the lip of the shiplap. It holds fine and it doesn't have holes you need to fill in the shiplap.

Love your advice here. I'll be doing this soon. The only thing I would change is the lines between the boards. I would just alternate it every row. Less cuts the better. Your way there's more cuts. I get why you did it.
@jcfra420
@jcfra420 2 жыл бұрын
You can use a circular saw with perfect lines if you do not have a miter saw. Just use a quick square on your cuts as a guide. I usually use a piece of painter tap on my cut line as well to prevent any chipping of the finish.
@TheExcellentLaborer
@TheExcellentLaborer 2 жыл бұрын
Yes you could for sure use that method. It’s just a lot quicker and less room for error when you use a miter saw. Thanks for watching!

@@Faruk651 or a homeowner/DIY. If anyone identifies with that, just make sure you use a new blade, and you cut from the back side so the rotation of the blade is forcing the teeth into the front. This way, the fibers of the wood have a backer, and there will be minimal chipping.

I have a couple of questions: 1) What if the wall is slightly bowed out? 2) Also, would you still need to stagger the lines if you had a space that was 6 ft across? My thought would be to cut all of the boards to 6 ft and install.

Everything looks good. Except you don't just nail all over the face of the boards. You mark your studs, then put power grab adhesive on the back of the board, then only nail through the lip that will be covered. If absolutely necessary, you can pin nail the top bord to the lip underneath. Why would you want to see all of the nails? Even if you're using finish nails. You'll need to fill and sand every one. Also, you must put a box extension/spark shield on the outlet boxes. It's code.

Exactly. I'm paying extra to see nails every where? REALLY. Do not like at all
@brianpurcell3771
@brianpurcell3771 Жыл бұрын
Do you not watch the whole video? He did mark all the studs. And then he chose not to do power grab since he might want to remove it later and doesn’t want to completely destroy the drywall. Once you spackle and sand the nail holes you don’t see them at all if done right

Excellent video. I’m doing shiplap install this week. I was concerned about all those nail holes bc despite spackling them and sanding, you may still see them after paint is applied. Are you gonna add base mould and side mould (verticals) to this wall? Nice job. 👍

So rare to find installer starting from top to bottom. Home Depot's video shows from top down also. Eliminating the gap by the ceiling with molding for a clean look could be worth holding up each board when nailing. Some prefer to leave the joint showing up for a staggered look. I am trying to weigh all the prons and cons before starting the project. Any suggestions will be appreciated............ Thanks for taking time to detail the work for an excellent finish.

3:48 not a good idea when the corner is drywall and has mud, another reason is studs maybe dog legged and out of plumb. I would have done what you did at the bottom or used a 6 foot level from point of reference. Also sockets nowadays have 2 separate power sources thus 2 different breakers, be sure to check the upper and lower before attempting to remove the socket. Just a suggestion :)
@JamesMcCarty

Sockets nowadays have two power sources? That is complete bullshit. I don't know where you're from but that is not a thing.

Why butt cut at the joints? a 45 would make that joint less visible. And I would always put one of the nails on the tongue so that way, you'll have half as many nail holes to fill

Yes, but if you decide to paint it white in the future you will have no option except to spray paint to cover the black background. That’s the problem with shiplap.

Would have used a 22 1/2 degree miter at butt ends and painted the raw edge before install....sorry..........Window casing, when ripping the true width, cut the back side that goes against the window leaving the finish edge for new casing and paint the raw edge before install.......

Hey Brian! The concept of using black felt works great for standard boards but in this case where you have shiplap you won’t see anything behind the boards other than where the laps are. That’s why you should paint the laps before you install the boards. Hope that helps!
