They all vary quite a bit…you can use trim at either side to make up for walls that are not exactly straight. In my other video where I put shiplap in my granddaughter’s nursery, I use a cove molding to trim out the ends

Very nice! I live in a 100 year old house with cracked and wavy plaster walls and I think this would be a hell of an upgrade while avoiding with most of the plaster issues.

I’m sure it will help in some areas. Just remember a bad base (wavy walls) could easily translate through this thin veneer
@realtyrocks1969 Жыл бұрын
You should have mixed up the cuts so the lines of the boards didn't match up. Looks like a piece of plywood glued to the wall. In fact they make paneling that looks just like that. Looks nothing like shiplap.

What is the added benefit of using the construction adhesive backing on the boards?

Awesome job. Looks fantastic. I'm going to try this. Been looking at shiplap and it's expensive. I don't care what's on there as long as the look is the same. And let's be honest, shiplap should look a bit rustic anyway so who cares if it's a perfect board from the box store?
@TonyCollumtheHOWTOHERO3 жыл бұрын
I’m telling you, I’ve got both. And not once has someone anything about any differences. If they don’t like it, they can pay for the next room 😂

@@TonyCollumtheHOWTOHERO What do you think about using 1970's style wood sheet paneling flipped over and ripped into 6" sheets? I got an older farmhouse home that I'm going to be doing some reno in. Someone put a lot of paneling in there back in the 70's. It's gotta come out but I'm hoping I can flip it over and rip it to use if it's thick enough.
@TonyCollumtheHOWTOHERO3 жыл бұрын
@@CardiacCat I wouldn’t personally. It is super thin and brittle and I don’t think would be enough of a profile. I actually ripped out a whole room of paneling (that someone took the time to tape and mud to fake it being drywall) to put up the real stuff. I don’t like how paneling ends up looking
@CardiacCat3 жыл бұрын
@@TonyCollumtheHOWTOHERO Yeah, I thought it might be. Well, it'll just get ripped out. Thanks for the input.

Since it’s been up for awhile, how well has it held up with the shower? I want to do our bathroom & worry about how damp it gets in there with no exhaust fan.
@TonyCollumtheHOWTOHERO3 жыл бұрын
It’s still holding up really well. Think about it though…once you paint it with latex paint it’s no different than the drywall. I do however, suggest that you invest on a bath fan to help.

With this being a bathroom, do you have to worry about extra moisture?
@TonyCollumtheHOWTOHERO3 жыл бұрын
Moisture is a concern in any bathroom. But shiplap is no different than drywall. The paint acts as a barrier to keep out the moisture. To help ensure you seal the wood well, you can pre-paint the shiplap then install.

At $6.50 a board at HD my takeaway is to just buy 10 real boards and avoid the hassle of gap measuring , cutting , priming etc. where you getting a 1k difference from?
@TonyCollumtheHOWTOHERO4 жыл бұрын
The (primed) 5.25” x 12’ shiplap sold at Home Depot works out to .87 per linear ft. To do a bathroom 8’x8’ would cost approx. $128 just in shiplap. 1x6x8 cost approx $147 to do the same bathroom 1/4” 4x8 sanded ply cost approx $65 Now, I know you’ve got to put in a few other things to get to the finished product including time... My way is not the only way...but it gave me great footage for a video and shows others how to do it a different way and to save some money. I was referencing 1k difference from when I did my living room at almost 500 linear ft at approx $1.77 per lf. Thanks for the feedback
@jamestapp55453 жыл бұрын
You never want to buy shiplap at Home Depot, go to your local lumber yard they sell 10 times the amount, and at a much better price.
