Ahhh the famous Dellorto chirp. at one time. CB performance sold thick base gasket's that had a nub to fill the indentation on the bottom of each throat. When under hard load this indent cause a chiping sound. I grew to like it ounce I new what it was. I have pair of 36's that have the gaskets and one pair without. No problem know which ones I'm running.

Excellent Video man ! Got a question for all you guys.... I'm not expert with these carbs but I wanted to install one on my harley... shovelhead can it be done ? DHLA40 ... or it can only be mounted vertically ? thanks

I think it has been done on a few show bikes but it's not really to practical for a daily rider. You would have to separate the intake runners to your heads. These carbs are like having two separate carbs that share a common float bowl.

Thanks for the reply, I understand these dual throat carbs were designed for true duel runner intake manifolds. However because of the tight clearance between the Harley V-Twin heads it's just not possible. The manifolds adapted to fit are two runners out of the DHLA into one, then it splits to each heads intake. I have Des Hammils book How to Build & Power Tune Weber & Dellorto DCOE & DHLA but no jetting info where both barrels feed into one cylinder. Maybe your book may have have a example?

Read your comment over. ???? I have no personel experience with that application but gleening what I can from the book. One throat per cylinder would work fine in stock form with the factory 34 venturi. Top end might suffer. Book shows 4 times what ever size venturi to get starting point for main jet. 34 X 4 = 136 so I would start with a 135 main and test and tune. It's a system though. Camshaft, compression come into play. Sound fun. post a vid.

The Weber IDF and Dellorto DRLA were made to in the Vertical application. It should not matter which way they face as long as you have the proper linkage and manifold to accommodate them. The original design was for one venture to serve one cylinder. You can get more but it may be more difficult to tune. I don't have much experience with that. Thanks for watching and commenting.

What I can’t seem to figure is getting no spark after installing Pertronix 2 with correct coil. I truly don’t know what to check. Any suggestions would be appreciated

You have to connect the red pertronix wire to the 15 terminal on the coil. Don't get it backwards or you will instantly let all the smoke out.

Hey EZ! Thanks for the vids. Saving my but right now. I picked up a ghia with a single DLRA 48. But it’s got 36 marked on the Venturi. What’s that mean. It’s on an 1835. Was told the 48 is too big but 36 should be ok yea? Also still confused about balancing flow for the two sides. Can you pony me to the video for that? Thanks again. You’ve taught a lot of people and that’s a wonderful legacy.

48mm is the diameter of the throttle bore. Your 36 is inside diameter of the venturi /choke. I have 48 DRLA's with 34 venturi's and it works great on my 2276 sand engine. The 48's originaly came with 42 venturi's. Most single carb center mount manifolds have cross over hole under the carb mount so what ever you do on one side make sure it's the same on the other. That is to big of a carb for a 1835 engine. It won't run very smooth on the street and your MPG will be horrible. You would be much better off with brand new Dual two barrel carbs. Thankfully the Ghia engine compartment is wider that a sedan and give you more room to work on them.

The ball bearing valve on the bottom of the float ball is a check valve to keep the accelerator pump fuel going in the correct direction. With the top off and fuel in the bowl you will see it working when you advance the throttle shaft. Try it slow and then try it fast. I don't know the source of your leak. Sorry friend. Just have to have patience and keep looking????

Hello EZGZ, great video as always. I need help lol, I have a 2110 Turbo Stroker motor with a single Dellorto carb. The buggy runs greats but when going on long rides cruising in 4th gear it will bog to the point where I can't keep it running, when it dies I sit for a couple minutes, fire it back up and its fine for the rest of the trip. I have cleaned the jets, and all that but nothing changes. What could this be?

Sorry for the delay, try a hotter spark plug.... Might just need some cool down time??? Infared temp gun will help you a lot.

hey I was wondering if u could tell me why my delorto carb on the #2 cylinder is flooding out u can take the top of carb off which would be the float and set it aside and fill the bowl with gas and it just runs out I replaced the ball bearing valve in bottom of carb but that didn't do anything im frustrated its gonna cause my motor to spin bearings , what do I need to do please help !!!! thanks really appreciate the info

Question, how would you properly size/jet a DHLA-40 on a Y-plenum manifold where both carb barrels are feeding into cylinder at a time. In the case of a Harley V-Twin (1450cc)

Hi I have a vw t2 I want to put Weber 40s on my 1778 motor with 044 heads and 110 cam Do you know what jetting I need to ask to be fitted before I buy ? Would really appreciate it. Also will I have much better performance than the 36 itc’s I have on at the moment Many thanks phil. Great vids

If your talking new weber 40's They should work right out of the box if YOU set them up correctly. Most important is the linkage threw out the opening. (idle-wot) It should idle smoother than stock. MPG will be about the same or worse. Performance will be slightly better and your seat of the pants meter will tell you that. Copy cat carbs will save you a little up front but your gambling pretty heavy. Those ICT carbs you have are very simple and trouble free. I wouldn't be in a big hurry to get rid of them if they are working for you. You may put them back on when the dual throat webers become troublesome. ( They will) Make sure what you have is working perfectly before you change to something else. Do your ICT carbs have the bypass valve???? www.redlineweber.com/html/Tech/34_ICT_tunning.htm It is most important to verify all linkage and levers are installed without binding and the linkage opens to full throttle position and is allowed to close to the Idle Speed Screw. This is the number one and two reasons for tuning errors, improper linkage installations and over tightened linkage nut, causing binding in the linkage assembly. CALIBRATIONS MAY VARY DUE TO REGIONAL FUELS AND STATE OF ENGINE TUNE AND PERFORMANCE. POOR RUNNING QUALITY DOES NOT MEAN YOU HAVE A CARBURETION PROBLEM. THE ADVANTAGE OF THE WEBER CARBURETOR IS ITS EASE OF ADJUSTMENT AND TUNING. Ralph, IMHO you have one of the medium size engines that are a compromise. More dissplacement than stock but not big enough to fully take advantage of those bigger 044 heads. Your combo says runs great above 3500 rpm but you carbs are out of air. Your heads and cam choice make for a weak bottom end power. Stock valve heads with just a little blending and love would make a improvement. It all depends on $$$$ and how much you enjoy fiddling with things.

I must say your knowledge is amazing thank you The camper runs great but hills it dose die Do you think I should just put 2lt piston and barrels on ? So I made a mistake with the 044 heads on the 1778 ? To be honest I don’t mind spending £££s I’m just stumped what to do for the best. The camper is a 71 westfalia and we do fully load it. Hi Ez what could be the cause of cold hard start i have the delllortos on a73 vw bus.since there is no choke.i have to pump the pedal like 30 times to get going.after is hot starts ok.

Look down the carb and work the throttle to see if your acelerator pumps are even squirting. Sometimes the pump linkage gets stuck or the nozzles get plugged

@@benjaminfabila8677 Sounds like you need a different fuel pump and or a fuel pressure regulator. The book calls out 3 PSI or less. I think I mentioned that in the vids I have made

Thought I'd drop you a line and suggest a new engine project for you. How about you take one of your many engines and convert it to a "Post Apocalypse" engine. By that I mean an engine that runs on pure Ethyl Alcohol. After the Apocalypse there will be no gasoline and what there is may be expensive or old and unusable. Convert a VW engine (carburetor) to run on pure homemade Ethyl Alcohol. Convert it and take it for a test drive. You may be the only one left on the road when the SHTF. ;-)

hnmmnmmn it's been a long time. I'm not sure. disconnect one carb and use a flow meter to sync the two carbs at idle. Then reconnect and make sure they both are doing the same thing threwout the range. Impossible to do just by ear. Your need the tool. www.cbperformance.com/product-p/6534.htm

Dual 40 IDF come with 28 venturi and close jetting. They work great on 1600 to 2110 engines with mild cam's and good exhaust. 009 Dizzy
