Idea- 4th of July cake.. white box cake baked. When cooled take the handle of wood spoon and poke holes every where. Strawberry jello- prepare as stated. Pour over and put in fridge. Prepare one box of vanilla pudding. Let set. Whip in one container of cool whip. Spread. Take blueberries to make corners of our flag and raspberries to make the stripes. Going to give yours a try. My mom had made this cake for years before she passed and it was always amazing !! Light and fluffy and a very good take to any kind of meal cake ! Hope Bryant heels ... he has to realize he’s not as young as he used to be ! Lol. Love this recipe , thanks for the memories !!!🙏

Your cake looks delicious. Thank you for sharing this with us. The recipe I use is very similar, but it calls for putting the pineapple in the cake, as well as the finely chopped pecans. And the frosting is cream cheese, kind of like a summer version of a carrot cake. I will have to try the whipped cream frosting-that would be light and summery. Melody B in NC

I always save the liquid from canned pineapple and Mandarin oranges for cakes! I'll add the Mandarin orange juice for my Christmas cake which is a play on the chocolate oranges that are out during the holidays! I use 2 boxes of the dark chocolate cake mix and for one I use extra strong coffee and the other with the M.O juice and split the layers using one round of the coffee and one of the M.O so neither over power the other lol but the pig pickin cake is my family's favorite cake on planet Earth and I have to triple the frosting because they will eat it by itself!😁 I'm so glad y'all like it and hope people try it once they see how easy it is! In New Mexico we call that (pig picken') a Matanza-it happens from November to February and the largest one is in Belen, NM. Maybe someday y'all will make it out our direction❤

Looks good...went to those pig bbq's in Hinesville, GA at a church where they sold it shredded by the pound so yummy. In CA bbq was so different at that time of course now we do have good bbq.
