This is a splendid show! I would like to hear about what sorts of pesticides and fertilizers they are using. Michael Pollan, the food writer, talks about how the food companies separated plants and animals and created a bunch of problems. Plants should be fertilized with animal manure. Then the farmers do not need artificial fertilizers made from petroleum. In The United States, most farmers use a class of fertilizers called NPK fertilizers, which stands for nitrogren, potassium and phosphorous. The plants take up all the minerals in the soil, but the farmers only replace nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium. This is one of several reasons why nearly all Americans are low on several minerals. And it's really hard to get a deficiency of potassium. Bananas are loaded with potassium. But it's really easy to be low on iron.
