Lisa Rene: There needs to be a Lisa Rene Law where people like this motel manager have to report a dangerous situation to the authorities otherwise, she could be charged. There were missed opportunities to find and to save this young woman...very sad.
@Ranillon4 жыл бұрын
The laws on such things (in the US at least) makes it clear that if you aren't involved in a crime but see/hear about one before, during, or after it is committed then you are NOT required to tell anyone about it. This does make sense as reporting a crime can be dangerous. It's great and right when people do report crimes but it is a bit much to punish people not involved in the crime for not wanting to put their lives and maybe even those of loved ones at risk. Exceptions to this apply if you are employed in a profession that requires you to report possible crimes such as being a law enforcement officer or a public school teacher when it comes to possible abuse/school issues relating to students. Note however that it IS a federal crime to not tell what you know about a crime IF law enforcement asks you directly about it.

When someone is trying to break into your home, don't spend precious time calling family members or other people; 911 should always be the first number called. The police can always notify relatives after you give 911 your name, address, and, if there's time, other information.

@@Atcoco29 Notice that I didn't address the advice specifically to her. My comment was for others who may find themselves in a similar situation. it's good for us to consider what we would do, before we find ourselves in a crisis, because when we are in panic mode it's often difficult to think clearly. Dialing 911, when possible, should be the first thing we do during an emergency, since every second counts. That's one of the most important lesson we can teach our children as soon as they're old enough to understand. Then it becomes automatic for them. We also tell our teenagers that If there's a fire in the house to leave the house right away and go to a neighbor and make the call.
