I've loved trout for as long as I can remember. Such a beautiful fish... But, until recently, I'd never lived near an area that had them. Three years ago I moved to within thirty minutes of a river that's full of them. At the age of forty nine I caught my first one. What a day that was! I'm fairly certain, that one day, they'll find my dead carcass lying along the riverbank. But what a way to go! Thank you for your videos sir!

i do a similar caddis but use finely cut antron for the dubbing in the abdomen and similar hares ear or squirrel dubbing in the thorax.

I tried this pattern, but as I didn't have larva lace, I tied it with UTC transparent vinyl rib and orange tying thread. I tried them one heavier and one sparser. The sparse one was great on little rainbows!! I wish to try them in a better spot than I went in Limay River.

Hi Barry Just received my copy of your new book, which is beautifully written and with great photos. In your book for this pattern you mention that your favourite colours of Larva Lace are cream, yellow, green and fluorescent green. Despite searching all over the internet, I cant find a supplier for cream Larva Lace. Where can I find some? Many thanks Chris P
@Thefeatherbender5 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris, thats great! You are the very first to ask me a question using the book. The Larva lace I have is not packaged so it could be a light brown or tan and its also marketed now under many different names but I think you may find what you need here: www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-tying-tube-fly-materials/lureflash-larva-lace~48157.html

Barry, beautiful fly I'm excited to tie it, What mm is the larvae lace? and is it solid or hollow, I keep getting taken down rabbit holes online and the next thing you know I'm looking at vinyl rib
@Thefeatherbender2 жыл бұрын
Hi Spike, I use different sizes depending on what hook size I'm tying on. But 2-3 mm is the norm.

every heard of a bobbin cradle makes things allot easier.
@Thefeatherbender7 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike, yes I have heard of a bobbin cradle, actually own quite a few different ones! I should have used one hear and on other patterns also but for the most I find it gets in the way when filming.
@3000waterman4 жыл бұрын
Barry. At about 7:00. You're having to negotiate around your bobbin/thread. Might it be easier to do a 3 second whip finish to secure the turns, then get the bobbin/thread out of your way on a thread rest - out to the right? I imply no criticism. As I watch you work I am reminded of my father's sage words - 'A cat may look upon a King.'
@Thefeatherbender4 жыл бұрын
Hi D, Thanks, You're absolutely right! But you are not the first to bring this to my attention.! When I am filming, I use a Canon EOS 1 Mk III, which is a large camera, this has to be positioned almost, directly in front of the vice, so viewers have the correct POV, so I have to tie sitting about 30 cm to the left of the vice, so I'm not sitting in front of it as you would normally. Give it a go! It took me ages to master!! When I have a bobbin rest mounted it just gets in the way of me tying, I have tried but I just can't tie around it from this position! This is also the reason that sometimes I have a little difficulty in finishing the fly because I can't see the head from where I am sitting. I have even tried using a live feed screen so I can watch that, but that just messes my head up! On the other hand if I filmed , like most other KZbin tiers from the rear of the vice towards me, non of these problems would be an issue.

B: Aha! Now I understand. Your filming is easily the best. Extremely high production values. You are instructing the world. Number one of the Holy Trinity.
