When you're doing the orange step, if you want to take the brightness up a notch, paint some orange fluorescent on top of the orange. It punches the vibrancy up more than the orange alone does.

Dear Nate, thank you so much for your inspiring videos. I attempted to paint a blue Space Marine back in the '90s, and it was an awful experience. Yesterday, after all these years, I painted my second Marine, and it looks quite nice, I must say. I will send you a photo through Instagram later. Thank you for the lessons and inspiration. Keep up the beautiful work! 🙌🖤

Nice. Easily the best rust tutorial I've seen. Even just the base coat before the effects paints go on gives a great 'aged metal' look.

Been getting really inspired by your video's recently. Waiting a couple of weeks to get a few more paints, then looking forward to getting stuck into it. The grimdark look has really got me fired up. Keep up the great work, and looking forward to your patreon to help you out and get some more tips.

So I know some of the cheap applebarrel craft paints have a large pigment and not quite enough body so that when you thin them with water you get something watery that dries chalky, can be really good for rust effects.

Looks super great, Feral! One note though. You should really try and heat up the surface before applying the DD Rust. It actually makes a HUGE difference. Same applies for the AMOUNT you add to the surface. But heating up the surface first actually does make quite a difference. I just used the wife's hairdryer. Thanks for the video!
@skynes
@skynes 9 ай бұрын
I hadn't considered using a hairdryer to heat the surface. I'll have to try that next time on terrain (as a test). As a note, how warm do you try and bring it up to?

@@skynes just till the surface feels hot to the touch. You don't want to melt the plastic.

Heating only helps with mixing the dirty down. As long as its room temperature, you're good to go. It just can't be cold. The number one factor in getting a good result with dirty down is a thorough mixing. If it comes out like a brown wash, its not mixed enough!
