Different times and different writers. 30 years ago, Gen, Gouken, Bison and even Charlie were meant to have stayed dead. But since fans have grown to love those characters, Capcom brought them back--some temporarily, like Charlie. It's like Marvel Comics, where various villains were meant to have their stories ended back in the 70's and 80's. Green Goblin, Thunderbolt Ross, Thanos, Red Skull...but years later, new writers decide to bring them back. Sadly, when you have multiple creative visions, one writer can always undo what another writer did.

I can forgive akuma not killing the Mishima's because there's no way they would let a guest character from street fighter end the entire Mishima feud. If the blood feud ever ends (it won't) it will be Jin, Kazuya, or Heihachi that does it. Yes, it's terrible writing.

The only people Akuma officially killed: His master Goutetsu. A supposed powerful fighter that Adon was supposed to fight. A military unit that interrupted his training underwater. Gill. Yes, he killed Gill. He didn't negate the attack like Gouken or Gen. Gill literally died from the attack and had to resurrect himself. There a rumor/theory on the Internet 10+ years ago stating that Akuma's Satsui no Hado isn't as powerful as people think due the little humanity he has left that prevents him from killing... Gen getting his leukemia cured and live one thousand lives is wild work 😂😂😂

Wow. The current writers of SF have turned Akuma into a very large and loud dog with no bite. Raging Demon is survivable. In SF6, they wouldn't have Akuma kill Ryu. They simply just fought. I think Capcom realizes that Akuma's whole "I kill other ultra strong fighters" doesn't work for them nowadays. Back in the 90's, his kill count was Goutetsu, Gouken and Gen. Since two of those characters have returned, Akuma's reputation has taken a hit.

Akuma didn't just suffer from bad Writing, it's just that Fighting Game Writers don't have the Stomach to kill off Mainstay Characters especially the Fan-Favorite ones, This is why "Death" is completely Meaningless in FG Stories, Heihachi came back in Tekken 8 because of Fan Demand, Bison came back in SF6 because Capcom refuses to get rid of him because he was too Iconic of an Antagonist in the Series.

Make the appearances in the next game non canon like Guilty Gear did with Kliff and Justice in X2. B. Make the dead characters and Undead Zombie like Nightmare Geese Real Bout Fatal Fury special. C. Akuma only successfully killed him and Gouken master Goutetsu, Bison and Gill so he legit killed them Bison came back due to him having multiple bodies and Gill came back due to the resurrection so Goutetsu is truly the only one Akuma killed for good as far his story goes.

I mean Gen is supposively to be alive if you were to play World Tour an interact with some of the masters (I think either Chun-li or Jaime probably) there will be an image artwork of him being alive. And look to be fair no one in Street Fighter has relatively killed anyone in it's own roster apart from side characters like Dan's father, Juri's family and even Rashid's best friend. Even Bison the guy that once killed Nash has him being resurrected again to get killed off....again, it won't be a matter of time if Nash pulls another revival in the future again. And Akuma is still the most strongest character in all of Street Fighter and would easily kill off characters like say Guile, Cammy or Ken for that matter if the story needs it to be having him going after them, but that's not the case it would seems.

OK, two things I want to say, First off, the fight at the end of Tekken 7 with kazuya is not canon and never was canon. So it doesn't count. 2nd, I think you're missing the point in which the writer is saying about necalli. The person we see as necalli in street fighter 5 isn't necalli's real body or form. It's just a body necalli inhabited. Even Akuma says that necalli is a ghost and talks about the body necalli is using is just a puppet. So when Akuma tore the body, necalli was using in half the dark spirit lived (sort of speaking) because it's a spirit/ghost.

Yeah it's a bit like with Swamp Thing. He's the Avatar of the Green (elemental force that governs plant life). His physical form can be destroyed but that's only a minor inconvenience as his spirit will just create a new one. Same principle.
