While I'm watching this I just got a text telling me to not forget the ten bottles of water. I send her a list of things she needs to buy when she goes to the city so she won't forget. Lol. She always asks if I took my medicine everyday. And what did I bring for lunch and what will I make for dinner. Did I put the chickens away? If I ask her how her day was I always get the same response. Just ok.

Most Filipina behaviors are great. But some behaviors are not. Calling a bad behavior, like deceit or tampo, "culture" should not be a free pass. A couple should be clear up front what behaviors are or are not okay. Great video!

If the Filipina says "42", you know she's read Douglas Adams and is a keeper. 😍
@rhonda-my_honda_cb500x317 күн бұрын
The wonderful mega-keeper Pea took it to the next level yet again at 09:22. "My Droogs" ... is a reference from the 1972 film "A Clockwork Orange". The lingo used in that film was a made-up form of 'pig-Russian' -- that is to say, 'mangled' Russian. However 'Droog' is a direct unaltered lift from Russian and it means 'friend' (sorry, I'm Kiwi and don't have a cyrillic keyboard set up, so can't easily type the word in the proper cyrillic alphabet) .

I've already had that talk with my Filipina ldr about tampo. I told her the second time that it was a game that I wasn't going to play! If she has a problem she better state it so we can resolve it. After her trying to ignore me after I repeatedly called her, I calmly told her that there would be no relationship if she kept doing it. After 2 days of no calls she was calling and begging for me to forgive her.
@hansreynders68533 жыл бұрын
In short, you don't accept who she is. Seems to me a flawed basis to build your relationship. "Accept me who I am" has a broad meaning for a Filipino and means also that she doesn't like you to "change" her.
@larryashworth90033 жыл бұрын
to me tampo is childish thing to do..
@gary44513 жыл бұрын
Playing along with temper tantrums or putting up with deceit is not a good way to build a relationship. A lot of bad behaviors are being excused as "Filipino culture." I am sure that a Filipina would not want us behaving the way that they sometimes do and call it "American culture."
@davmil20023 жыл бұрын
What I find so endearing is the "bahala ka na (it's up to you) ". This is one of the biggest misque(s) in cross cultural. (Perhaps all cross gender). Trust me, it ain't up to you - just try what you think without putting what she wants first and find out.

As an American guy married to a Filipina for 13 years I can say I’ve learned a lot. And as I’ve been with her for so long we have both adapted and accept each other for who we are. Foreigners will try hard to adapt to Filipino culture. But, at the same time, it's also the Filipina's responsibility to also adapt to your foreigner's culture as well. This is not a one way street and the "tampo" treatment, if it goes on for too long, will only end in travesty for the relationship.

The same rules apply, in general, to Chinese and I suspect to all SE Asian cultures. My ex-wife is Chinese and I was often amused when she, her son, or her friends said "yes" to an Australian who assumed it meant, "yes". I learned that all it means is "Yes, I heard you make a sound, and I have learned that if I say 'yes', you will stop talking eventually, and I can get on with my life."
@prepperjonpnw64822 жыл бұрын

Definitely like the "simple" label. I'm extremely low maintenance, and prefer the person I am with to be as well. Being fancy and dressed up on occasion is fun, but day to day I prefer to be just me. I was fortunate that my former girlfriend was very upfront with me about what she liked and did not like. I think that is why we got along so well: Similar tastes. That thoughtfulness or attention to another female is going to be a real sticking spot for me. I was raised to be chivalrous toward women...any woman. I think communication up front is going to have to be key in defusing that issue (I hope). "But is she cute?" Too funny! You are a treasure, Miss Pea! Thank you for doing this video!

I've been distance dating a Filipina for a year and a half, and I've noticed a number of these behaviors in her. I'm happy to say I correctly guessed the subtext in most of the situations, but I'm grateful for learning things like what "fancy" means to people there, because I never would have known otherwise. Edit: Also, you look good in that police outfit 🙂 Not as good as my Filipina would, though. Her hair is longer, and she's taller than you are, and she has a straighter nose. Pea, where the hell were you when I met my Filipina ten years ago, or even 8 years ago when we got married? Most of these situations and codes have happened and I had to learn the hard way. Hardest for me to learn, and still an occasional problem, is the "last question is all she saw"... and worse, I'll go to the trouble of sending multiple messages of things I'm working on and asking questions, but all are ignored except the last one. I still screw that one up all the time, but at least when she doesn't see them I have an understanding of the reason, even though it doesn't make sense. Keep teaching Pea, I'm all ears.

Pea , you’ve hit the nail on the head you seem to know why a lot of men will or will not a person of color I treat people the way they treat me. I also know it’s the way people of color treat others and for the same reasons I’ve told you many times about things you always answer back with a smile I would never have thought you were a province girl. But like so many there they refuse to intigrate into society you’ve learned this to better your channel. Allow me to explain. Your sisters need to slow their roll if they want to experience the west. The filapina/ o people are some of the brightest and best but your cities are molded after ours. You continue to mold your people and I’ll do the same. I know about TAMPO AND WHY. I dropped out of school to help my parents. I use to be more tolerant of people that I’m like a willow so I appreciate people like yourself so I learn your culture. I’d love to marry a filapina since ww2 you’ve been mistreated. We get that. Here , if someone poached a persons spouse you get dumped. I recently found out my land is worth 20 times what I paid for it. Just under $1,000,000. For that kind of money I’ll buy my filapina a nice home in the west. I will also teach her our ways and protect her.

As for myself and most other men I know reading isn’t high on our priority list especially when it involves reading between lines. Relationship either find a balance between both parties involved or get over inflated by issues and burst. Both people must work together to communicate and find understanding. So Filipina’s can’t put people from outside their culture into their “it’s always worked before” and that’s how it will be just as a foreigner can’t expect someone from another culture to understand them implicitly because that’s how it is back home. We can have miss communication with people we have known for years so expectations of completely understanding and or reading someone from another world, without a bit of work, is expecting a lot.

It's crazy at times, but if you think about it, it's a great way of "courting"... Making it through the "She's a perfect angel" stage that all stupid creatures (men) go through is the first step... But, if you can suffer through the ensuing work, frustration, acceptance, and the learning process of cohabitating with her while she's dealt with the same confusion brought on by our western traits without wanting to jump in front of a Jeepney, and you STILL love the hell out of her after all of that... There's a pretty good chance that you've found the one. 😉

I already knew what I thought, I wanted to know what she thought. It is still difficult after all these years of her living in the U.S. to pin her down on anything. I think part of this has to do with her being devout in her faith and not putting her own views out there, but it's also clearly part of her culture and makeup.

This was a great video, again. LOL. And so true. And at breakup time, well, that "turn on your head" thing must be universal. My ex gf keeps saying to me "That's not what I said". hahaha. Carly Simon has a great song: "It happens every time" that captures that. But when a Filipina says it, she is just 10X more beautiful!

Omg, what she says and what she means can be two completely diffrent things. I think she spoke ailen sometimes!

On 3) It's fine. My rule is always to believe her when she says that, and never ask any followup questions. This often leads to sweet, blissful tampo that may last days.

Oh I can relate to that part of Filipinos not being capable of admitting they don't know how to point you in direction you are asking about. I almost miss my plane from Manila to Cebu because of that 😂😂😂

Hello Pea. I'm a recent retiree to the Philippines after many years of stay in California. I am currently in Dumaguete and will be honored to meet with you. I am thoroughly impressed by your level of intelligence, knowledge and communication skills. I'd love to buy you and your partner lunch or dinner sometime soon.
