One other measure of success I feel in AP is identifying and successfully obtaining any discounts for timely payments. Another interesting function... some roles may have to be aware of contract terms and monitor, track and accrue for rebates due back to the company.

Credit memo well look at the vocabulary across the pond. in the UK and Commonwealth it is called a credit note. In the USA allocation and apportionment seem to be used to mean the same.Not so in the UK.

Bill I love your videos and am subscribed as you consistently put out great content! I had a question - I have six years of AR and AP experience and recently passed all four CPA exams. I have not held a title as a staff accountant yet all of my titles were AP/AR specialist. For my next job, should I apply to Staff Acct roles or aim a little higher since I will have my CPA and am not fresh out of college? There is usually never a disadvantage to aiming a little higher. Especially if it is realistic given your skill set, experience, education, and credentials. Go for it!

I will have to disagree on the public vs private part, many businesses especially SMEs use public accountants (practices) to run period-end journal entries and compile the financial statements. Bookeeping is likely to be private / in-house except in very small owner-managed companies, but anything past trial balance is likely to be handled externally for most private limited companies. That's why we say *accountancy practice* not just tax practice or audit practice or consultancy firm.

depending where u live Accounting assistant is a good place to start. i started $18 and within 3 months $22 when i took on AP responsibilities. I have a degree but wanted to do exactly what this video is talking about of making sure u know the basics of the accounting office. you can also see if there is a Junior Accountant or Junior Staff accountant. Alot is basic data entry and you can pick up easily.
