Hi Matt I unfortunately lost my father to a heart attack three days ago and never got the opportunity to go on a trip like this with my dad and would give anything for that experience I suppose my point is that your boy is incredibly lucky and should cherish that time with you,the kind of trip he'll remember for the rest of his life

I’m going away for a week at tongaporoto about an hour from New Plymouth in the north island.we got a batch up there a new one as the other one burned down in the middle of the night while we were sleep luckily we are alive any way on the 25 - 31 of jan we r going up there to fish in a river about 2 meters away from out batch so we r going to do lots of fishing manly for Kaiwi.

Great vid! Can anyone tell me if just cutting the line for the shark while it has the hook in its mouth is common/good practice? Will the hook just rust away and the shark will recover?

We use high carbon hooks, so if we can't remove the hook safely then the hook will rust out quickly. We also cut the line as close to the hook as possible.

Hooks rust out within a few weeks in salt water and fall out. And the shark would barely feel that.
