After watching his video, I was amazed on how good you could get cuts to sort of get to the shape you want. I took a piece of slate to practice on, very cool,wow, thanx

Great Vid.. The best is that shows a good relationship with your Dad.. God bless you all! What Demo Saw would you recommend? Which model and brand is the one used for the vid?

Hey...How about the young guy install the stone, and the more experienced of the two run the camera and provide the narration!! I would like to add an important point - different flagstones are of different hardness, which impact how one can manipulate the stone. Some stone is quite soft, in my experience the lighter brown flagstones...where the colour being used here (more of a pink flagstone) is a more consistent, harder stone. Excellent video, guys!!!

Do you have a video on cementing the stone down on the cement then grouting it?

Cutting natural stone with a saw???, I prefer to cut with a chisel and a small rock hammer, it looks more natural. and it doesn't create all that dust.

That's because you are too good to be watching this video. You should be carving statues for the Pope at the Vatican
@zoticus14 жыл бұрын
Agreed, there's no need to saw cut.

I will often take cuts made with a Saw and tap the edges with a hammer or hammer and chisel to make it more natural to the eye.
@jimmyhoffa3103 жыл бұрын
Yes you can do it all with chisels but you better have the ones with carbide edges that are well over a hundred bucks a piece not to mention you better be a skilled stone mason and not just an hgtv wannabe. You do know you can connect a hose and wet cut the stone. Then take your brick hammer and tumble or face all the cut sides. Most importantly your pieces on the outside. I never cut my outside pieces but if you do make sure to tumble the entire side not just the top edge. Because over the years the grass or mulch or whatever is surrounding your flagstone can slowly drop a little over time and then it exposes the cut stone and sh*tty craftsmanship. But you probably knew all that didn't you Mr. weekend warrior.

garden hose please, so says the neighbors (if you feel the need to use a saw) narration is not needed and most often doesn't even make sense in this video

These guys did a pretty ok job...and the job looks great..but...these guys are not flagstone experts. I'm a mason. A mason wouldn't be using a saw for a stone that thin. Just a plain old hammer and chisel. Especially mixing cut edges with natural edges. The way he put a chiseled edge where it is exposed is great, but when you grout the rest of it in you will notice the cut edges that aren't re-worked against the natural edges. Again the job looks great, but if you want to learn the right way, watch a video about cutting stone with a hammer and or chisel.

isnt the point of installing "FLAGSTONE" not to have cut and straight edges, might as well just install tile if you want an edge, the natural beauty of flagstone is it's inherent rough edges.

Shane Williams yes I agreed with you but we can also use but the natural & and machine. l am suggest in that it depending on part an you want it look like because we have deferent designs types when doing with flagstones! example some examples are : tiles lying or Tait spacing, Roget, external and internal pointing border can bring about natural or artificial edges. from stone mason.
