6.6 Duramax Exhaust Fluid Quality Message Fix "Diagnostic Overview"

And this video we are working on a Duramax with a poor exhaust fluid quality message on the dash and the vehicle has gone into limp mode. This video is a diagnostic overview of what we did to fix the poor exhaust fluid quality message and get the vehicle out of limp mode.
We also had coolant temperature codes along with some glow plug codes. I will show you how to do a reductant fluid quality test along with a service Regen with the factory Tech 2 scan tool.

Thank you for tutorial! I have 2012 Silverado 2500, DURAMAX. The CHECK ENGINE LIGHT turned on. Diagnosed 2 codes P2OEE and P2BAD and after 30 miles driving, truck went to LIMP MODE with massage on dash EXHAUST FLUID POOR QUALITY. I did replace NOX sensor #2 (down stream, which is bolted with two 10mm bolts on right side of the frame) and installed a new DEF injector and using scanner I turn CHECK ENGINE Light off, I had my friend borrowed me scanner TECH 2. Prior to do this, I drove my truck for 27 min and than start following your procedure. Its brought engine to 1900RPM and after 55min running, the RPMs suddenly dropped to normal idling and in same time DEF light and massage went off. Recommend to buy NOX sensor and DEF injector from dealer, original. First time I bought brand new NOX sensor off of EBay (says made in Germany) with a good price $145, but when I installed it, the CHECK ENGINE light comes back again and again and again with same codes. I decided to pay more and buy it from dealer, and guess what, it worked. Since that time no more CHECK ENGINE light. This my story how I fixed it. One more time, THANKS to EDITOR of this video. It was helpful a lot.

regen recommended prior to nox sensor replacement. If thermostat is bad.....you right, no regen. diesel tank has to be at least 30% full, DEF fluid tank at least 30 % full, engine temp normal operating condition, best to monitor DPF pressure during the pre-check, even check to see if indirect injector (9th injector) for DPF is performing properly prior to running the regen. Open the hood and never leave the vehicle while running the test. Abort test by turning ignition off, or scanning regen stop, or tapping the brake peddle if engine gets over 1350 *F. Some models of duramax run this high temp during regen. Glow plugs issues should not keep you from running a regen.

If anyone is using super tech DEF, don't do it! I have put it in my duramax only twice over 50,000mi and both times had the only DEF codes I've ever had. Both times stated mileage countdown to limp mode and both ultimately requiring a trip to the dealer to be flushed. Sub par quality.

Alicia so I’m having that problem on my 2015 duramax it would say service exhaust fluid or something then on the dash it said 99 miles till 60 mph and so on it kept getting lower any ideas on how to fix that ? The truck only had 20k miles so pretty annoying
