One bowl, no eggs. This recipe is a game changer. Thank you sir. Because of this video, I'm going to plant okra today! (I'm in the tropics🍹)...one tip, you can put your okra in the sun for an hour after slicing to dry off any slime

Awesome ways to make okra Neal! My favorite would be the succotash. That would be great on the Weber Summit in cast iron! Cheers!

Great ideas. I've eaten and cooked okra almost my whole life, but will definitely give your ways a try. I think okra is one of the most under rated vegetables. A must have for any gumbos. Thanks for the video!!!

Excellent! I remember well picking okra in 110 deg. temps out in West Texas and my Aunt Lottie frying it up in the cast iron pan. It is, by far, my favorite vegetable dish. Picking okra was, for me, a bit of a challenge at first. My mother told me it was a lot like picking cotton which she did as a little girl (supposedly the two plants are related). Thanks for the post!

Your mother was wise. Okra and cotton are indeed in the same plant family! My challenge picking okra growing up in Alabama in the 60s was how you had to wear a long sleeve shirt and cotton gloves to keep the okra needles from biting me.

@@DrJohn493 Thank you for your kind reply and insight. I subscribed to your page. In particular, I enjoyed seeing the video of your involvement with Camp Hale in Pando. A friend of mine, now passed, was in the 10th Mountain Division during WWII and trained out of there. I'm a long-time railfan and spent time chasing the then-Denver and Rio Grande up on Tennessee Pass back in the 80s and 90s. One of my retirement projects is to build an N-Scale model railroad patterned after the Tennessee Pass line. Regarding the okra picking out in Ozona, TX back in the early 70s; it was there that I learned that anytime there's a King Snake around, Rattlesnakes usually stay away. This occurred while I was digging into the okra bush with snippers and sensed something slithering along in the adjacent row. After landing from the 4' straight jump I did while screaming "SNAKE!!!" my Aunt allowed that it was "Jist an ole Kang Snake... them rattlers'll stay away." I continued on with the okra cutting, but with a "heightened" sense of awareness of my surroundings thereafter. ;-)

@@DrJohn493 BTW, my aforementioned Aunt Lottie's husband, my Uncle Tommy, was originally from Sheffield, Alabama ("NA"). He left there in 1953 to find work eventually with El Paso Natural Gas Company and worked for them for 35+ years.

Normally my preferred method for okra is whole, coated in olive oil and sprinkled with whatever seasoning appeals that day then grilled to a light/medium char on the coals, but might have to give that "blackened" version a shot. Thanks.

As a mexican dude, it is very weird to see someone actually COOK with salsa valentina. We typically use it on fruit or veg or when eating chips w/ lemon. Other than that, i dont know any mexican recipes that use valentina. Very creative!

Can you suggest a great cast iron pan? Or what are you using.
@TheFlatTopKing

I can...if you are just getting started I think LODGE is extremely hard to beat. Cheaper and extremely easy to use..it allows you to get the hang of cast iron..seasoning. washing,. and maintenance...worst case your out 20 bucks...but the learning lesson will be valuable to see if you want to invest in more expensive peices
